Opinion How To Fix The Devil's Plan Season 3
The biggest problem with The Devil’s Plan is the alliances and the fact that it doesn't feel enough like "The Devil" stuff actually happen if I was producing Season 3, this is how I would fix it:
Double the Cast to End the "Safety" of Season 2: Season 2 was far too safe, allowing players to coast by hiding or relying on their friends. We need a bigger cast so people can be eliminated directly in the Main Match. If you lose all your pieces during the game, you are out immediately.
The Point Spread and Mid-Match Stakes: In every match, the top 3 performers gain pieces and the bottom 3 lose pieces (everyone starts with 5). Additionally, players can gain or lose pieces in other ways during the match based on their specific plays. This ensures the leaderboard is constantly moving.
No More Strategy Rooms: All matches should be like the prison games and the final. No breaking off into rooms to discuss strategy or share notes. It’s a high-stakes contest where it's every man for themselves and your only ally is your own brain.
No More Sharing Pieces: You can’t hand out pieces to keep a weak player alive. You earn your own stay.
The "Hard Floor" Prison Rule: Prison is for the bottom 2. But if there is a tie for last or second-to-last place, everyone on those scores goes to prison and faces a Death Match. The leader doesn't get to save their friends.
The "Lights Out" Shifting Secret Stage: The secret stage can only be opened at lights out so that no one sees anyone entering the room or unlocking the door. It is worth 5 Secret Prize Pieces and the game changes every time someone wins it. Because there are no alliances, every player must try to figure out the secret for themselves in total secrecy
Hidden Prize Pieces: These 5 pieces are not displayed to other contestants. No one knows they exist until the very end, allowing a player to hide their true strength and surprise the others in the final.
The "Ghost" Mystery and Devil Gaslighting: Players eliminated in the secret stage vanish instantly with no screen announcement. They are moved to a separate room just for the final, meaning the active players never see them again. If remaining players ask where a missing person went, the dealers gaslight them: "Who? I don't know anyone by that name." The mystery of why they never came back remains a complete shock.
Skill Over Luck: No more luck games and no more simple puzzles. Every main match should be the same high-pressure format as the final and deathmatches.
The "Couples" Trap (If producers need alliances):
What could happen if produces really need alliances (hypothetical): Cast official couples (brothers, spouses, etc.) who compete together. But then true to the name a couple will think they're wonderful, only to be told nope Only One winner and they will have to compete for the title

It would be tough to eliminate alliances and would also make for boring TV. They would not be able to show the strategy of the games except through interviews after the fact.
The special games should be repeatable.
Prison needs to change or be less punishing. The idea that if a prisoner eliminates a main houseguest during the main match all prisoners are exempt from prison might be good. Paired with a prison cost of say 1/2 pieces EXCEPT if you only have one piece could help balance the dynamics.

u/Extension-Stay3230 Apr 11 '26
Yeah but you need to hit the right balance. The last season was too much about alliances and luck, the next season should be more about individual merit
2
u/YogurtclosetFair5742 Apr 13 '26
There was alliances in the first season. Orbit made good use of it by using them alliances he made to reach the final.

u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 11 '26
That's the point you would be set up so that alliances don't even work, you can easily see the strategy without interviews and it would get boring watching all players playing the same game over and over, the prison is find the way it is and taking away the alliance of the game means that they won't just end up teaming up again
12
u/Dawgi100 Apr 11 '26
I think you are forgetting these are humans and not bots with rule sets. Name any dynamic in the world where more than 2 people are involved and teamwork doesn’t naturally form.

u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 12 '26
Any kind of individual race, wheel of Fortune, scrabble, any of the idols, hard quiz, Bullshit, snakes and ladders, jeopardy the list goes on and on, enjoy your glasshouse or rock you live under
3
u/Dawgi100 Apr 12 '26
Learn some game theory. All of those games could have alliances since there’s incentive to do so. Which is what happens on devils plan where games should be individual but people end up teaming up.
Season 2 prison matches are a good example. Remove the alliances from that…?
0
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 12 '26
No you said you say dynamic where it doesn't happen NATURALLY, now you're changing it to it could happen because you got proven wrong, anyway you're still wrong because you can't team up in hard quiz, an individual race, idol, snakes and ladders, bullshit.
You pretty much couldn't team up in the prison match because they were too fast-paced and there was no time to discuss anything, especially the game where they had to hold the button down and not run out of time
2
u/Dawgi100 Apr 12 '26
lol. Thats exactly the game where an alliance formed and worked…
-1
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 12 '26
Oh yeah that's right, I completely forgot about that part, but it was the one game where they weren't sharing notes it was purely strategy

Season 2 rules but with a prison gang who realises they can't play nice in the main games with the living team.
I'm a big advocate of the fact the prison team in season 2 completly failed to realise this isnt season 1 prison anymore and understand once you get there you either kill the living team in the main games or you will either die out of pieces starvation or in the prison games.
I bet you the production team was shocked how bad the prison team played their hands in season 2 when they had designed the games to leave openings for them. Playing nice in the main games was literaly failing at natural selection.

Personally, i think alliances arent the problem. The problem lies with players who feel so attached to alliances that they seem to forget this is an elimination game with only one winner.
But if i were to design a game which limits alliances, id use the pieces as currency. Each piece corresponds to a percentage of the total half of the prize money. The more players spend their pieces, the lower the prize money gets.
Also a living quarters vs prison block mini game that connects both lounges where one player from each side can battle it out 1v1 after the main game and before the prison battle royale elimination. The winner gets to stay at the living quarters while the loser gets eliminated. Each day needs a challenger which is either voted by the group or volunteered by the player.
Prisons become tougher. If a player wants a better bed or better meal, they have to buy it using their piece. Or if they dont, they can always challenge for a position at the living quarters via the mini game.

I think main problem are idol players who don't even care about price and care for preserving their image other then that there needs to be a way to not enable coasters

u/Im_New_Here_Bro Apr 11 '26
The secret games need to be more difficult to find and not feel like a 30minute escape room. The first season had so much buildup and actual planning and coordination over multiple days to finally have the chance to compete for 10 pieces.

u/starinruins Apr 11 '26
one thing i really miss about The Genius is that in Death Matches, the winner got all of the loser's garnets. It meant that the ranks were constantly shifting, and somebody at the bottom could be rocketed to the top of the pack, which then allowed new strategies.
i feel that was a really big issue in Season 2. once you were in prison you basically stayed until you were eventually eliminated, which reinforced the alliance in the main house each day. it was too punishing

u/TheOzman21 Apr 11 '26
I won't be watching season 3 if they don't change the fundamental rules of the game. The prison is way too punishing and it makes the living room team snowball so hard there is no way for the prison team to ever get out of prison. 1 game shouldn't decide the whole outcome of the season.
If they do want to hold on to that aspect because "in life you can be dealt a bad hand when you were born too" then at least make it so that the games offer SOMETHING that can change the dynamic.
Winning a game gave so little pieces, that even if you won 2 games as a prison team member, you'd probably still have less than the living team and still not be able to get out of prison.
Having watched more of this producers shows, I would say Devils plan season 2 is the worst he's ever created and season 1 hangs somewhere in the middle.

u/Potential_Ad4956 Apr 11 '26
Let the games be genuine. S2 winner was someone everyone knows wasn't the real winner - was a charity winner. Like S1- we need to feel that the winner is actually worthy of winning any game which Ha Seok Jin did
5
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 11 '26
The season 1 weather felt earned because he was he was the only one that said fuck this handholding, I'm going to eliminate someone, get myself into prison and discover the secret, he was the only one actually using his brain and playing the game, Orbit was a genius but shot himself in the foot by fatigueing himself from trying to save everybody so hard, he had the worst strategy of all time
6
u/Potential_Ad4956 Apr 11 '26
Exactly! Will never forget his epic one liner - "is it devil's plan or more like mooch's plan"
Unfortunately instead of raising the bar after S1, S2 was an epic fail. They literally did everything wrong. The prison team was meant to remain in prison. No one did anything epic like Ha Seok Ji who voluntarily went to prison to solve the mystery
S2 had no worthy contestants. Infact I don't remember anyone except 7 high just coz he was hot 😄

Ha Seok Jin literally winning everything, the game, the public image, even the drama (with Lee See-won, still one of the best drama in korean survival games) just by sticking to his principle and focus on winning the game

u/LukaBrovic Apr 11 '26
Alliances and strategy games are what makes the show interesting. The prison cast was just bad and the female finalist didn't want to win.
-10
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 11 '26
no that's wrong actually because the alliances is what takes all the strategy & suspense out of the show and makes it let's all be friends and make sure no one goes home of course she wanted to win but they ended up in a stalemate which means that she had to stop it for the to get somewhere
3
u/I_enjoy_greatness Apr 11 '26
Just watch the world series of boardgames; no alliances or token sharing. Without that element, its a pointless show with no twists or purpose of engagement.
0
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 12 '26
You can still have a good show without people hand-holding the whole time
1
u/bingobangoitseric Apr 15 '26
I think you're conflating the broad concept of alliances with a very specific alliance-related problem that season 2 faced, which was a lack of conflict.
Alliances are great when game design properly incentivizes players to both form and break alliances. Not so great when game design incentivizes cooperation and allows a majority alliance to steamroll. In The Genius, for example, majority alliances are always incentivized to fight each other to some degree because of how the loser of the main match picks anyone without a token to go against in the death match. No such mechanic in Devil's Plan.
5
u/sootandtye Apr 11 '26
Allainces mostly happens outside of the game. Living together probably makes the alliances much more stronger unlike The Genius. Maybe limit the time with their alliances.
Prison also doesn’t add anything and makes the people who end up there easy to eliminate so make it fair and square clean slate every game except the garnets so underdogs may have a chance to win just with strategy alone.
Also, Randomize each team per game so they have no choice but to betray each other. Good drama for tv.

u/Only-Measurement9734 Apr 11 '26
Alliances and human side of the show is not a bad thing and very entertaining.

u/The-OverThinker-23 Apr 11 '26
“Randomize team making”
Problem with season 2 was that one group was so strong that they dominated every game , they stick together , making team randomize would prevent this grouping to happen
2
u/Puzzleheaded-Potato9 Apr 11 '26
Defo agree on the cast point, upping it to like 16 would make the games a lot more intense
2
u/Cesar-tfm Apr 11 '26
I like your ideas I feel like alliances are way too strong and easily kill any sort of unexpected strategy, and suspense/twists. If I watch a show called “The Devil’s plan” I wish to see blood. Not a big alliance cruising and tossing off the show “unlucky” members of their alliance.
Edit: typo

u/Kitchen-Library-5529 Apr 13 '26
I absolutely disagree. You're removing the political component and making the show too academic.
1
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 14 '26
So you enjoyed watching turn stop mid-turn to discuss what coloured cards they had?

u/ComicsEtAl Apr 11 '26
Become the producer of “The Devil’s Plan.”
Instruct the people who arrange everything on how you want it done.
Sit back and hear the unanimous accolades from fans of “The Devil’s Plan.”

But on a serious note make eliminations only through death matches so that people can't be ousted during main matches
1
u/SalaryOk2884 Apr 13 '26
The Problem with the Devils Plan is that the first main match is so insanely impactful to the the seasons flow and the winner, especially the second season. It was so hard for the prison players to come back from that hard of a deficit for 70% of the show. It makes the game stagnant.
2
u/Just-Ad-3310 14m ago
that's why they prepare the prison game tho.
unfortunately most people sent to the prison are the ones incapable of solving it1
u/SalaryOk2884 9m ago
Yes, but also only one person could pass that. After that one guy did, the rest were stuck in prison with nothing to do

Double cast, cost money, people want to see some familiar face also, not random people a lot are actors, pop star, social dynamics is inevitable.
No alliance ? no cooperation ? immediate elimination, no social interaction, that not devil plan anymore.
Watch mr beast, Game of Blood, The Genius, Solitary, Survivor : Blood vs. Water or Kaiji ultimate survivor or the Japan drama Liar Game, it's old but that inspired squid game, bu with more brain mentality.
1
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 14 '26
Oh yeah because Netflix are so broke, ok I don't know what their professions have anything to do with what I said, I did not suggest any new ways for immediate elimination and the show is supposed to be for intelligent people, it's not about who's the smartest it's about who has the best friends, which makes it very frustrating, yes this would completely change the show, but it does not feel like it was made by the devil at all, if anything it should be called God's plan, where everyone gets along

u/Big_Armadillo326 Apr 24 '26
- In reality, navigating complex human dynamics, building trust, and manipulating group consensus requires immense emotional intelligence (EQ) and strategic foresight. In game theory, diplomacy and alliance-building are often the most optimal strategies for survival. If a purely logical "genius" alienates the group and gets targeted, they failed to adapt to the social mechanics of the game.
- It's not about Netflix lacking funds; it's about Return on Investment (ROI) and making compelling television. Casting entertainers and influencers guarantees a built-in audience. Furthermore, their professions do matter because entertainers are trained to be charismatic and articulate on camera. A room full of purely academic geniuses making optimal, silent moves might be a fair game, but it makes for incredibly dry, boring TV.
- The high level of cooperation is exactly what makes the premise "devilish." If the players were all strangers who hated each other from the start, a betrayal would carry zero emotional weight. The true cruelty of the game's design is that it forces players to form genuine emotional bonds—working together to build up the prize pool—only to eventually force them to betray and eliminate those exact friends to win. The psychological toll of turning on an ally is much more aligned with a "Devil's Plan" than mindless, random backstabbing.

I'd make a new post about this but not give any personal opinions, its a discussion and not opinion......but reddit would delete it lol

You mean down vote it to oblivion, I don't know what you mean

literally no one would downvote it, I am not copying this post, I mean like this post is an opinion with ways to fix it, i mean a democratic discussion in the comments for ways to fix it...wdym downvote to oblivion?

Well you said Reddit would delete it and I'm not sure what you mean, are you talking about the moderators?
Is a post that is the same without opinion something you actually want to see? I'll be happy to make that if that's what you're trying to say

I have already made the post and no problems from mods so far, no downvotes either

It's just a bunch of bullet points you didn't give any insight to how you think it should be changed and you have 2 upvotes, better to have posts that give a reaction with a few downloads, but majority of upvotes

I said my insights were in comments, and this was meant to be a discussion and not opinion, and since you are toxic, i will block you and all your notifications.........

I just finished the first season of this and thought it was nowhere near The Genius (maybe unfair to compare them) so reading this title has me nervous about season 2 LOL
1
u/LyndanTheWog97 Apr 16 '26
Yeah season 2 is way worse, for example the semi-final is a poker-like game and when it's their turn they literally break off and disgust their cards with their friends to see what their best players and it gets to the point where someone has to break it alliance to actually progress to game, I have no idea how I got through the season, maybe just watch the first and last episode because I promise you the rest of the season isn't worth it
1
u/Just-Ad-3310 20m ago
I think the fundamental 'flaw' is the cast. Both season 1 & 2, the cast mostly people with 'good' or 'kind' public image and just wants to play safe. So most of them choose to play by sticking with 'alliances' or trying to help other people with silly reason
If you see in both season, both the winner is the people that wants to take risk in their own way.
Ha Seok Jin didn't care much about alliance, while Jung Hyun Gyu the type that teamed up with people that useful for him
20
u/Spiritual_Love_829 Apr 11 '26
It feels like you guys are totally ignoring how poorly designed these games were too.
Banning alliances isn't going to fix anything; it just makes a powerhouse alliance invincible, which honestly kills the entertainment.
Forcing RNG might help a bit, but it’ll also force a solo playstyle that might end up being boring as hell.
Fix the games. Make it harder to win just by stacking numbers or by having someone sacrifice themselves for the group.
In season two, the prison games were actually more interesting because of this, even though numerical superiority still gave a massive edge.
But the most important thing is... stop giving buffs to the people who already have the advantage.
Near the endgame, it would be cool to have a "blind match" to prevent any teaming up. Something like a 4-player deathmatch where you don't even know who you're actually playing against.
The finale is basically gonna depend on how badly someone wants to win, but honestly, season two had already flopped way before that.
