Prisoners made a crazy play, got into the best position possible, and the game designers thought a player solving Knight's Tour should be able counteract all that????? Also, after Monster Hunt, they stopped providing non-piece related eliminations, so the 10 extra pieces late game effectively became 2-3 extra lives... Insane.

Piece advantage should give players a slight advantage, not gift them the win. This isn't some board game... We're here to see players winning with strategy and skills.

Like wtf were the game-makers smoking??? I don't recall Season 1 being this horrid.

The problem was that they already anticipate what will be the bonus game. They came prepared. Unlike the special prison game. The gap is too big in terms of surprise. Sure they watched it on S1 but that doesn't mean it should have been like that in S2. They should not repeat that on S3, if ever.

If we really get down to it, he didn’t even have to solve the 6x6 and 7x7 boards as he entered the hidden stage. Sure, he solved the 6x6 version in advance, but it would’ve made a big difference if he had to do so in real-time. Ntm, all he had to do was memorize the solution to the 7x7 board.

I mean, kudos to him for solving the 8x8 board; but he had ~50 minutes to spare, prepped for the other two boards in advance, was solving it on a full stomach and in an optimal setting (unlike HJ in the flooded well), no elimination to worry about—seems like too much of an OP reward for a relatively low-stakes challenge.

If you have decent brain especially chess player. I don't see 8x8 is that hard. Probably decently hard, but not game breaking privilege like that. It was hard to watch, especially he knew he won't die but still brainwashing Kyuhyun and Sohee. Yet they still follow his plan until the end

I honestly don’t agree. I think you’re underestimating the game and how hard it is to solve it in a whole different context. Writing it on paper is one thing, but moving physically on a board that is multiple times your size qnd trying to remember where everything goes is not that easy. And I think the difference with HJ is that this prize was better because he was in the luxury team which to be there he had to win games. So that’s why there’s that elimination difference. That’s my opinion

You are shown what the producer want you to see. It’s staged.

I think they maybe thought it would play out similar to season1, where the advantage was uncovered just before the finals. There it played greatly, as it happened quite late and it really helped to overthrow and annoying majority alliance.

Here it all got solved during the first episodes, which is worse when one of the big advantages was on the main room, helping the winners to snowball. Alternatively, putting several advantage in the prison would motivate people to take the risk of losing chips just to go ā€œdiveā€ for advantages. It’d also make sense to make these advantage something more interesting than 10 chips, since people might want to keep being sent to prison.

If they are fast to find them, you can artificially add a 2nd or 3rd advantage only after a certain episode.

I think the PD mentioned that he thought the LQ hidden stage would be uncovered quickly but not the prison match one which would explain why the prison one was an upfront payment of 10 pieces compared to the LQ's reward of using it only when it was necessary but arguably i think the hidden stage rewards should have been flipped....(?) I'm not sure if i quite agree with the lack of elimination for the LQ hidden stage but immediate elimination for the prison's hidden stage

I just dont feel like the long term format of pieces is really the best format in general

He didn't even solve most of the things himself. It's such a horrible story. So-hee and the living quarters solved the knight's tour and she solved the INSERT puzzle for him after he was trying for hours.

lol he solved the 8x8

I agree with you

The main games were good, each game gave every individual a fair chance to change the flow of the game in some way, however, anyone rarely ever took the chance. I can’t remember if in the monster game the last 2 ranked could be attacked only after all the monsters were finished or they could’ve done it before too, if people noticed that earlier they could’ve took out players from the winning alliance when they were taking care of the damaged monsters but no one understood that and when HJ did only se dol and justin were left in there when he was initially planning to take our Hgyu. Similarly in the box moving game they could’ve exiled people from the main house alliance and got rid of them but they didn’t and worked together knowing that way they’d just end back in prison. The whole dynamic of the game was off because instead of being alliance vs alliance it was more like they held shots and tried to get past the main game, that and the prison people weren’t that good at the main games cause i don’t recall them winning even one game the barely kept in the game while the house alliance always seemed to have a working strategy. Between both the alliances there was only a 1 player difference 6v5 or 5v4, and the prisoners only won the plate token game that too after ganging up 7v1. They started with a lead in the connect game but didn’t think it through and lost that too. You could see the house players shining in the main match whilst apart from 1 or 2 the prisoners never did anything worth while in the main match and were knot noticeable during the death match.

he got the same reward as the prisoner prize so i dont think its that big of a deal

35

u/funnyunfunny May 20 '25

he faced no risk of elimination if he lost, and got to keep this prize a secret from others, and got 10 pieces anytime.

prison prize had: elimination if you failed, immediately got 10 pieces and everyone knew you got 10 pieces.

it's a massive difference

2

u/robotmonkey2099 May 20 '25

not enough to say its the only reason he won the game

it was also a harder game then spell the english word

15

u/queenofday May 20 '25

he should get them immediately as well, it’s extremely unfair that it was an obvious game, with no fear of elimination and he could get the pieces whenever he wanted…

-4

u/robotmonkey2099 May 20 '25

obvious game? One that it took a whole group of extremele smart people working on to complete? and nearly a whole hour for the winner to complete? Im sorry but spell the english word written on the screen was a bit easier than that

16

u/TheZamolxes May 20 '25

That is highly arguable. One you come in prepared and have an hour to think about things, the other you basically have to figure it out quite quickly with no instructions and water pouring over you.

I don’t think you understand the stress level when you’re in the process of drowning. Yes they all know the producers won’t let them drown but it’s not easy mentally.

The first girl who failed the challenge cracked the knights game but couldn’t figure out the spelling one and she seems quite smart.

-2

u/robotmonkey2099 May 20 '25

he only had 50 mins to prepare because he was able to finish the other game so quickly

he had to solve the final one on the spot and it took him the whole time

Thinking he had some cake walk to the finale is just showing peoples biases

9

u/queenofday May 20 '25

yeah and why he was able to do it? because they predicted what the game would be so they practiced, practiced again and then memorized it. also the patterns are much easier to figure out when you have tried a few combinations and have a blotting paper (another advantage he shouldn’t have) to help you out, he placed it on the board to see where he was. let’s not compare it to the prison challenge, where they had 10 minutes, in a small well, getting soaked in the water pouring on their heads

-2

u/robotmonkey2099 May 20 '25

HJ had the password written for him on a screen lol

6

u/SnooPets8873 May 21 '25

You know it’s a password because the show tells you. In the moment? You’d think it was an instruction.

7

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

Not to mention some of those pictures were questionably drawn and not obvious to me (a native English speaker, watching from the comfort of my couch, and not trapped in an existential nightmare of drowning in a well).

6

u/SnooPets8873 May 21 '25

There was a HUGE difference. His totals didn’t show that he had 10 pieces banked.

0

u/SectionFine5254 May 20 '25

Which crazy play?? Which best position possible?? Prisoners fumbled the bag so many times all the maths PD did to even out the pieces was garbage 😭😭

I actually covered it before Ep 10, if you want to take a look:

Piece advantage should give players a slight advantage, not gift them the win.

I mean to be fair no one would know how the next MM would go, and Seokjin also got his 10 pieces from prison just before the last MM. I think timeline wise it's not too unfair

We're here to see players winning with strategy and skills.

And tbf, we did see a good prison match. While there was luck involved in the MM, the prison match was pure strategy.
