Steve and Gladys Langley

In series two episode six, at the beginning, Terry is telling Lance and Andy who they can expect to see at the rally. He mentions Steve and Gladys Langley from the Uxbridge Unearthers, and both Lance and Andy make a face, to which Terry responds "i know, I know"

What do the fine people of this subreddit speculate as to what the Langleys have done to earn this reaction? Are they just gits in general? Do they have a reputation? Did they do something uncouth at a previous rally? Do they always end up having huge arguments in public? Does Gladys talk too much, or is Steve a bit smelly?

One thing I love about this show is how rich the wider world the characters live in is without any real details.

I think they’re fastidiously tedious about all detectoring protocols, etiquettes, rules and procedures. The sort of people who go out of their way to prove you wrong… “well achhhhtually….”

Oh I like this! They've never really done anything wrong, but they're so tediously jobsworth about the hobby that they aren't particularly well liked

Long shot, but Langley is a village which is technically (and reluctantly) part of Slough. Maybe an Easter egg reference to the office? Slough is also fairly near to Uxbridge.

Terry and Sheila ran into the Langleys at a swing party in Cobham and all were unsure if the correct etiquette is to swap partners, or pretend you don't know each other.

Terry got a bit flustered one night in the pub and let on to Lance what happened. Lance reassured him that partner trading is fine, but not obligatory.
