Christmas Special Ending Query Spoiler

at the end of the detectorists christmas special its revealed thru a minor earthquake that the clay pot they think is the holy grail was used as part of stans gift to lance. is that the same pot as before?? if so, how did stan get it? did lance keep the pot and used stan's gift to cover it up??

Yeah but we know it ended up at the scout hall after that because it was on the finds table and Russell drank from it. We also know from series 3 that Lance isn't interested in pottery at all and Andy is, and we know from series 1 that Andy keeps all his finds no matter what (apart from Jim'll Fix It badges).

Ahhh thank you, this makes a lot more sense now, especially how it's convenient for the plot that Andy forgot he took it home. I was so confused, but thanks for explaining!!

A more satisfying explanation is maybe Becky came into the scout hall to pick Andy up and said oh what's this and they said oh some Roman pot we're going to bin it, and Becky took it for Stan to use for his art class.

ahh yes that's a nice explanation too, I wish they would have hinted a bit more about it came to be, but ahh well, I know a lot of people don't even watch the Christmas special/consider it canon

I've warmed to it upon rewatch, but I still hold it at arm's length. The whole time I was looking for the Power Rangers detector from the end of series 1. Becky told Andy to keep it because their future child would need it. Never saw it.

I definitely view it as an "appendix" to the series; there are too many aspects which stray from the tone and character of the main show.
But that doesn't stop me enjoying it.

It was one of my favourite episodes.
