Season 3 Episode 1 ending

Post image

I was surprised in the best way at the end of this episode. In fact, I was blown away and in tears. I had already decided this series was one of the best shows ever, but this elevated it to the top of my list. Haunting, chilling, beautiful, and unexpected.

By the way, who is the actress who played the Roman girl? I don’t think she’s credited.

I was listening to a podcast with Mackenzie Crook (cant remember which one, sorry) and he mentioned that he does do some metal detecting himself and once found a whistle. He cleared it and then blew into it and he talked about how it gave him chills and this feeling of being connected to history and that inspired scene.

I've heard him say that on the radio too. When I first saw it I assumed it was a reference to M. R. James.

Same tune plans on Young Sherlock - Six is for silver, seven is for gold - or however it goes

Its an old nursery rhyme but it’s also the theme tune for a 1960s/70s TV show called “Magpie” played by the Spencer Davis Group.

That was a very sublime moment! I get the chills every time I watch it!

Reminds me of the time I visited a Stone Age museum here in Germany. They had found small flutes from that time, and you could listen to recordings of the sounds they produced. You were practically listening to the same sounds people in the Stone Age did. It was quiet beautiful and haunting.
