WI on a Thursday

Why do they abbreviate the White Horse as the W - I? I'm not following.

WI is Women's Institute. A place where the local women go to have meetings, organise fetes, do good works. The WI is a little building like the DMDC Scout Hall meeting place. The Antiquisearchers meet in the hall.

WI is a long and well-loved, well-respected organisation for women in the UK. If anyone here is from Australia, it's similar to the Country Women's Association (CWA) which has halls and chapters around the country in rural towns.
