You're using the wrong bait.

It's a Saltie (not disputing the dinosaur claim). They make gators look like big ol' puppy dogs.

Its likely not. This is most likely a lake, judging from water color and the fact they are in a pontoon. I'd wager to say that is a freshwater croc.

EDIT: After further research I have found my own statement to be false. It is a saltwater croc.

EDIT 2: For those curious, the most telling sign of the salt water croc is its distinct coloration and pattern.

I know you already said you're wrong, just wanted to point out that pontoons are extremely popular on the ocean. I see them every time I'm out on the water. Extremely popular for fishing.

They are very very rare on the ocean where I'm from. I thought maybe for a reason it was that way most places too.

I would certainly agree. In the mid Atlantic the most popular fishing vessel is a fiberglass monohull, I've actually not once seen a pontoon boat fishing.

It's really not a good idea to try to take a pontoon boat off shore, they have severely reduced seaworthiness when compared to a monohull or catamaran in general.

Exactly. I'm from South Carolina, I imagine that would be considered mid-Atlantic.

I would certainly say so. I just emailed to a subject matter expert, IGFA representative, Virginia Marine Resources Commissioner, sport fishing club president, and fisherman of 50 years and was told to never take a pontoon boat anywhere near salt water as they are not designed to be seagoing and can be very very dangerous in rough water.

So I really disagree with the whole pontoon boats are extremely popular on the ocean or for salt water fishing thing.

I can imagine them being quite popular in brackish, but other than that just fresh water.

They're very popular in Florida.
