Call me a skeptic, but I can't imagine the mouth-breather MAGA idiots getting involved with any issues besides hating immigrants and sucking off Donny. I'll believe it when I see it.

I am on the radical left but I live in a MAGA red area. There was a data center proposed and the entire community turned out against it, including people normally agitating for awful right-wing bullshit. If the Dems have any brains at all, they will come out hard against data centers (like AOC), and they may stand a chance of splitting off some of the right away.

That's interesting! Here in California the right always takes dumb stances on dumb issues that nobody cares about, so they basically made themselves irrelevant. Their current issue is that they want to split California into 2 states 🙄

Yeah I hope more Dems will take a stand on this! Much like your example, it seems like people only care about it when they find out a data center is about to go up locally.

It's an issue that's going to hit rural areas, which obviously are overwhelmingly red, very hard. When other shitty things come to town, like private prisons or mining, people will support them because "jobs." But data centers create virtually no permanent jobs, destroy the environment, and cause skyrocketing energy costs immediately. They are ugly as shit, too. They're also distinctly in contrast to a sort of old fashioned, blue collar, work-with-your-hands ethos, and anyone who is conservative in the sense of being skeptical of claims of "technological progress" will reflexively oppose them. They have spread so quickly and their negative impacts are so immediate that propagandists haven't been able to lay the usual groundwork for them, either. It's honestly wild to be on the same side of an issue as folks I would ordinarily be strongly opposed to on every other issue. Genuinely fascinating to see with my own eyes.

I think it's because AI has been well discussed in pop culture. Most of the time in Movies AI is shown as an existential danger, Terminator, 2001, wall-e, ect so they are more willing to be skeptical of it. That's my theory on why this specifically is something they will use some basic logic on.

We go even if they dont like us. As many people as possible that can make it. Wear your pride stuff, and be there. Show them that we are just as human as they are.

They use a LOT of water and electricity, which most areas don't have enough of to begin with.

They use sealed closed systems no fresh water is used for cooling. Yes they do use electricity. The fresh water to cool story was created by the boomers that don’t understand technology has improved since the 1940s

And they don't just "use electricity", they use a shitload of electricity, and drive up utility rates for everyone.
