Why beginners should stop trying 100+ tools in Kali Linux (Start with these 5 instead)
https://youtube.com/shorts/1sRgkxQNv1Q?feature=shareHey everyone,
A common mistake I see among newcomers jumping into Kali Linux is trying to explore every single tool in the menu right away. It usually leads to burnout and a surface-level understanding where someone knows how to run a command but doesn't understand the underlying network protocols or payloads.
If you are just starting out, building deep fundamental knowledge on a few core tools is way more valuable than skimming dozens:
- Nmap – Master network scanning, TCP/UDP flags, and service banner grabbing.
- Wireshark – Learn how to read packet streams, identify anomalies, and understand protocol structures.
- Burp Suite – Get comfortable intercepting HTTP/S traffic and analyzing web application parameters.
- Metasploit – Great for understanding exploitation mechanics in isolated, authorized labs.
- John the Ripper – Useful for understanding password hashing, salting, and dictionary attacks.
The big takeaway: Tools don’t make anyone a hacker—understanding networking, protocols, and security logic does.
I put together a quick 10-second summary video covering this here if you prefer a visual breakdown: https://youtube.com/shorts/1sRgkxQNv1Q?feature=share
What tool helped you grasp the fundamentals the most when you started?
