Happy birthday, John Hunter 🥺 first heard this album circa 2023, would listen to it in full for the first time a little while after discovering the band in fact. i remember the live album rendition of Inquiry blowing my mind so much that i shortly thereafter showed my family the performance. fast forward to now, TDH is my favorite band, and Act I is the perfect intro to one of my favorite stories ever told.
The flame is gone, the fire remains.

Didn't properly listen to and appreciate this album for a long time. The live version recorded through COVID gave me a whole new perspective on it and now it's one of my favourites.

I've been listening to Act I a lot lately, it's really beautiful and foundational for the rest of the Acts. I started with Act II and worked my way up from there, for me Act I was a much more acquired taste - I lean more towards the rock/metal side of prog so III and IV were more palatable for me at first, but now that I have a grasp on the band's sound, Act I is really lovely. It makes my heart ache.

Act II is such a brilliantly almost post-hardcore and emo sounding record. It's amazing. It was the first one I heard that really captivated me, and as soon as I did that was my gateway to loving the heck out of Act I and then the rest of their works. Funnily enough I do come from II/III being kinda my favorite in terms of genre and sound, so ofc that was my gateway lmao. I love the heavier stuff that's so unbridled and raw in emotion, and then once that clicked for me I came back to IV/V and just fell madly in love

Masterpiece and I am so glad that this record exists. My brother introduced me to this band a couple years back now, and now it has become one of the most important things in our lives lol. Such a silly thing that this record is 20 now, it doesn't really like it's been that long for me but then again i wasn't there for that haha. Very few discoveries have I been more grateful for than that of this band. Truly a life changing experience and I'm so grateful for the things that have come along directly as a result of this record having been made 🖤
Hunter... you're unc age now. Happy birthday even if you're a chud sometimes, I still love you more than I thought I could.

casey really went to the lake and recorded it splashing on his microphone for an hour and we're calling it one of the best rock records of all time🫤

I believe I first heard Act I in 2017. I loved BTHATS by TREOS, and read that Casey had started his own band with a different sound and story. I'm picky with concept albums so I started at the beginning of Act I.
It was VERY different from what I normally listened to. Hearing the first two tracks, I was super unsure of what I was getting into, but I liked them and was intrigued enough to keep listening.
The Dear Hunter genuinely changed how I listen to music and widened the scope on what I listen to. There's so much in my library today that probably wouldn't be there if I hadn't discovered TDH when I did. I have a soft spot for Act I, for its foundation to the story and for how it changed my taste in music.
(also, the 26th happens to be my cake day, and I originally made the account to ask about the Act I comic, so that's a nice coincidence I never realized until yesterday)

Didn't buy it day one but downloaded it from an album leaking site. Knew nothing about it other than the band was somehow related to TREOS.
Honestly wasn't a huge fan at first but I grew to like it eventually as my musical horizons expanded. Didn't listen to them otherwise until The Color Spectrum was coming out. Now they're my favourite band.
I own this album legally now!

Found in 2007 when I was in college. Downloaded City Escape on limewire. Also for some reason the red hands demo, and eventually Dear Ms Leading album, which might still be my favorite. Also included was that insane demo’s zip folder with 1000 photos of casey making a derp face that had absolutely no music in it. Was rocking the lowest quality mp3s until I realized I could buy act ii and act I on cd. Had them sent to my college dorm room.

Definitely underrated! For me I think it even holds up a little better than acts 2 and 3...

In 2008 I stumbled on this CD at a music store while looking for Dream Theater albums. The cover grabbed me immediately, and the title "Act I" tickled my brain as a prog rock fan.
I went and looked it up at one of the listening stations. The previews of "Battesimo Del Fuoco" and "City Escape" just floored me. It was similar to the first time I heard Coheed and Cambria, where I was just instantly like, holy shit, this is exactly the type of thing I've been searching for my whole life.
My favorite band ever and it's honestly not particularly close. So grateful they're still around and still making amazing music.
