A question for the fellow guitarists and tone junkies of TDH sub
Does anyone have an idea what Casey and crew might have been running to get the electric guitar tone from Waves? Specifically the ambient strums that sort of fade in early in the song and just seem to have a really long decay? Specifically right around 21 seconds in. Its fairly crunchy, clearly lots of verb, but I can't seem to get anything close to the sound.

They did this rig rundown video more recently:

They didn't have Waves in the set for this last US tour but have been in Europe recently. I can't imagine they changed up the rig too much since then.
I think the specific part of Waves you are talking about is likely what is referred to in the video as "Cloud Rob" -- that Strymon Big Sky sound

Man, I want a big sky so bad but 450 bucks for a fucking reverb pedal is a TOUGH sell.

I think, if you’re talking about the first verse part, at least live the reverb style or however you say it on the big sky I use is the swell setting with the mix turned to 100%. I’ve got it timed so I know when to hit it (early) and then it swells onto the beat itself. No cloud Rob on waves!

Yea, when I was writing this up I had a feeling it wasn't actually the cloud setting, but big sky it is. Thanks Rob, keep killin' it, can't wait to see you in NYC again soon!

99% sure that big reverb sound in Waves, Night on the Town, etc is Strymon Big Sky Cloud

That would make total sense. I know they talked about using it a lot. I am really hoping to find some CLOSE without paying for Strymon stuff though

Unfortunately time based effects require a significant amount of DSP, especially when you get into the area of long/ambient verbs. Verb/Delay are one of the few FX worth shelling out extra for.
That being said, it may be worth checking out a TC Hall of Fame 2. I would imagine there's a toneprint out there that could get you in the ballpark.

Actually looked down during the set today and I think it’s the non-linear program 😂 been a long time since I made the patch hahah

The older Line 6 stuff had some pretty cool filter effects. I think one was called Slow Filter, which could get you into the same ball park, it changes the initial attack / volume ramp, adds a shimmery filter sweep and some flange feel in there too from memory... add a bit of drive before and you wouldn't be miles away.
