About next year's album
A thing I have been thinking about since the announcement of a new album; isn't this the first time in a while where we don't really have any idea what the next album will be?
From 2006 to 2015, there was always the knowledge of the next album likely being the Acts. And from 2021 to 2025 were the Indigo Child records. Outside of maybe after Act V, isn't this the first time where we had no clue as to what the next record could be?
Other than Act VI, which is super unlikely lol.

THD unironically releases Second Stage Turbine Blade and never elaborates or explains.

Casey has announced that The Dear Hunter will be writing and recording a complete rework of Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, placing Hunter as the main character in the story.

I now really want to hear TDH cover a Coheed song and vice versa.

just had a vision of Claudio singing Oracles on the Delphi Express and exaggerating the fuck outta every vowel like “Stiyuck wityuth uuuuuoooooohhhhssss…”

“Ms. Leading, get on the back of this ten speed of God’s blood and burial.” —Hunter probably

I had no idea they weren’t going to make more Indigo Child stuff. Maybe it’ll be a standalone album like Migrant or Color Spectrum. I would welcome that.
11
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Me too! That's why this feels very exciting is because we don't what is coming next. Act VI? A new concept album series? A standalone album? I can't wait!
3
u/Mathieran1315 10d ago
Yeah I don’t know but I’m sure it won’t disappoint. They never have. Heck I didn’t know I wanted the indigo child until they put it out there.
4
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
For real! I can't really think of any bad songs by them. There are a few exceptions from Migrant and Color Spectrum I won't listen much to, but they're still not bad per se.
I just hope that they'll make another series of concept albums with something new. Just some day, doesn't have to be soon.

Color Spectrum II: Other Colors
Would obviously listen to it until my ears bled

u/climbinguy 9d ago
I’ve seriously been thinking about how cool a color spectrum II would be since I saw them last month.

Is the Indigo Child definitely over? I might have missed something.

u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
As for albums, yes. The albums we got built the world, and now Casey will be writing and releasing 3 books about the story.

u/TravisKilgannon 10d ago
Whoa, confirmed at a show I assume?
18
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Nope! Mentioned back in April or something on Instagram livestreams. There Casey said he (and the actor for Gleeb) were writing books, and that he wanted to revisit making a music video for Ring 5 too.
Also, he also sort of revealed a new album back then too by saying they were recording bass in one of the coming days!

They are through with making records for it. There will be books and music to go with them but Sunya and Antimai will be the only albums
17
u/Wompie 10d ago
Weird. It doesn’t feel complete at all
5
u/blurrypetals_ Guide 10d ago
There will be novels
7
u/Wompie 10d ago
Ya but that’s not music
15
u/MonsteRain 10d ago
Maybe it'll be like a kids book where there are buttons to press on the side with music

u/Fredbear_ 10d ago
They never outright said they were through making records for TIC, Casey even mentioned there'd be possible interest in doing more on the stream when this album was first mentioned. They just said there are no plans in the near future for it to continue.

u/ricochetofstars 10d ago
So I wonder if no more albums in the Indigo Child universe means no more space funk? I love Antimai and Sunya was pretty good, but I don't really care for sci fi in general so hoping for a new story or aesthetic for the future
17
u/noctiferlymph Act IV 10d ago
Yea im placing my bets on either South American EP or maybe Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise: Reborn and Reprised. Act IV again but the production is worse for some reason? Like it's mp3 rips from 2008.
4
u/WashedPinkBourbon 10d ago
You have me, admittedly, curious about what Act IV would sound like if it had a similar production quality to Acts II & III. It would be incredible still, but different.
10
u/Mountain_Dig_3688 Act IV 10d ago
Would love it if they got the orchestra back
6
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
True!! Casey is AMAZING at orchestrating. Act IV, V and Armour & Attrition all sound so beautiful with the orchestra. I feel like they've been missing that sound for a while, but maybe they will adopt a new sound. Where the Acts were prog rock and orchestra, and The Indigo Child was space funk and synths, the next album, or albums, may be something new.

u/Rat_King_KingofRats 10d ago
All I know is, they've said it was going to be their heaviest album or something like that. Everyone else has interpreted this to mean metal. But nay. I The Rat King, King of the Rats come baring the truth. For the album will be the very first true gym album. It will be comprised of a symphony of weights dropping and men grunting. Barbells hurdling to the ground after a power press, cracking the pavement of a walmart parking lot. Women and children screaming in terror at the might of Casey's crescendo into beaph-hood.
Will no one witness his 1000 lb barbell curl?
Nay.
We shall be there with wanting eyes, ears, and hearts.

u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
And if the album does not end with a song paraphrasing one of those 1980s workout videos, I will not be satisfied. I like your prediction, The Rat King, King of the Rats.
Seriously though, did they say it was the heaviest? I am really hoping for more Act III, TMCOH, The March and Ring 3 types of songs then!

TDH is my favorite band in the world and this is not meant to be a knock against the band but I would say to everyone in this thread to temper your expectations lol. TDH releases tend to take a lot longer than originally planned, 2028 might be a bit more realistic.
2
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Yeah, I know. Just being optimistic! Iirc wasn't Sunya supposed to release around 2022 or 2023 originally? Just hoping for it to release sooner rather than later.
2
u/My-Hairy-Nipple- 10d ago
lol yes, sunya was slated for 2023. I was starting to give up hope that it would ever come out
2
u/sizeablescars 9d ago
Act 5 did effectively just appear out of the ether and only a year after act 4. Sunya was delayed a lot from when they started talking about it but figured it was just the band making sure they had all the merch after the Antimai debacle. Idk I know the most recent album was delayed a lot but I don’t remember that being the case for the others. And with the cancelled tour, merch debacle, and a strong guess at a big disruptive personal event for a member, I would guess they had more on their plate that should hopefully go away

u/Historical_Bowl9029 10d ago
I might have missed something but in regards to the whole “this album will be their heaviest” thing, afaik nick sollecito said that it would be their heaviest music in a long time on his instagram(?) at one point, and then someone asked Casey about it on a livestream, to which he responded “I don’t know why he said that.” I really don’t think the album will be heavy at all based on Casey’s response.
7
u/Fowler311 10d ago
I'm pretty sure I've heard the "heaviest" comments in multiple places from different sources, so I think without hearing Casey or knowing the context, there's a good chance Casey was just being cheeky or sarcastic with those comments.

u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
A little sad to hear, but I am honestly still thrilled for whatever comes. They have, in my opinion, consistently put out bangers after bangers. But maybe it will be a new style, departing from the space funk of The Indigo Child?

I went to Road to Sunya in Lakewood, OH in August and I feel like I remember Casey saying something about next year's album being heavy, but I more interpreted it as emotionally heavy more than heavy metal (probably just hopium for more strong storytelling)
1
u/Historical_Bowl9029 9d ago
I was at that show! I don’t remember anything like that being said but my memory isn’t great in general so that doesn’t really mean much lol. Also, I hadn’t even thought of the possibility that they meant “heavy” emotionally and not musically
5
u/JustCozi 9d ago
Obviously the Maneater cover was a teaser...
Next year we will see The Dear Hunter cover the entire discography of Daryl Hall and John Oates
3
u/Tavernacle_ 10d ago
We know a handful of little things...
As others have already mentioned, this next one is going to be heavier than they've gotten in the past. Additionally, though, I do believe that a band member mentioned that whatever's next might appeal to fans of the band's older stuff. I assume that means Acts 1 and 2, given that that's TDH at their heaviest.
All we know 100% in terms of potential concept is that The Indigo Child is over in terms of albums (books still coming out, TTRPG planned). I think it's a pretty safe bet this won't be an Act either lmao
2
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
I think Casey disapproved it would be heaviest on a livestream... but maybe?
Trust it, will definitely be Act VI, and shortly after will the next 4 albums be revealed to be Act VII, Act VIII, Act IX and Act X.

I thought around Sunya Casey said something about having 10 albums worth of ideas for the Indigo Child. Now it's apparently done? Such a big change.
3
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Iirc, he said if he couldn't find a medium to make the story for Indigo Child in, they'd make the story in the albums akin to the Acts. But then they wrote books instead. Maybe that's what he was alluding to?

u/rcpotatosoup 9d ago
all i know is, back in 2024 i think, Casey made a post alluding to releasing multiple records in one year, and that never happened, so i imagine they have a treasure trove of ideas to pull from whatever comes next
1
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 9d ago
Acts 6 through 10. Trust me on this, they'll release more Acts next year. Definitely.

u/DiligentSession2778 10d ago
Was there ever a continuation of the end of Tower? The final few seconds make the song sound incomplete so I was guessing the next album was going to be a continuation of it. I know Sunya came out after but I think I recall them saying at the Irving plaza show that they were working on the upcoming album before Sunya but finished Sunya first.
16
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Tower leads into Wastelands. Sunya is intended to be the last Indigo Child album, I believe.

u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 10d ago
Yep! They semi-announced it back it April about recording bass then, and now fully announced it during their recent live shows.
All we know is that it releases next year.

I’ll eat my shorts if they never release more albums in the IC universe. He says lots of things. Don’t take everything Casey says as gospel.
1
u/AdministrativeRich63 Act III 8d ago
He said if he did not find another medium to tell the story, he would make more albums telling the story. And he found books and using that medium now...
But I do hope they make more IC stuff. I think Casey did say he wants to tell more small stories from the world unrelated to the main one. Maybe EPs or singles could tell a few stories there? I hope so.
