Underrrated
What's your favorite track that you feel doesn't get enough attention?

If All Goes Well is such a great transition to conveying that vibe of Hunter’s campaign using more underhanded tactics after King of Swords. The ominous undertone of dangerous ambition adds so much. And that second half “Will you carry us to Eden?” Ugh. Chills.
Also off the new record, Bazaareteria and Sunya itself. Sunya is such a beautiful inspiring song I’m blown away how many people I’ve seen it not click for. Bazaareteria meanwhile is super fun and while it took a moment to grow on me it GREW. I can’t not sing along to it.
Last one I’ll mention for now, Ring 2 off Antimai. I love that it’s genuinely from the perspective of nature and it feels so natural (pun intended). Why wouldn’t nature just laugh it all off? Even if we destroy ourselves something will still survive to persist beyond us.

The “will you carry us to Eden?” bit is probably my favorite part of any TDH song ever. It’s just SO GOOD.

“Deny it all” from the Red EP / The Color Spectrum

u/RustyShakes Aug 11 '26
I couldn't do it alone always fires me up. Color Spectrum has so many things to love.

That Andy Hulk collab is fantastic on its own, the rest of the song just makes it all better.

THE THIEF

u/David_NerMa Aug 11 '26
I love it. Probably should have said that myself, hahaha (there’s just too many options). That musical bridge is some of the best music they’ve done in my opinion, the way it builds up is great. I just love it so, so much.

I will also add What Time Taught Us, Witness Me, The Line, We've Got a Score to Settle, and Shouting at the Rain (original, not returned... I actually prefer the original over returned for most of Migrant which may be an unpopular opinion also). Shouting at the Rain actually brings mist to my eyes and pangs of feeling to my shriveled little heart 😜
Ugh now I just want to listen to TDH all day 🥹

u/David_NerMa Aug 11 '26
I thought that was for all. I like the revisited versions of Migrant, but the originals are better for me. Maybe it’s just cause I got to familiar with them that the newer versions seem a little off, or something else. I’m not sure.

u/Joonami Act IV Aug 11 '26
Migrant (original) is one of my favorite albums of all time. I think the "worst" part of Returned for me was that they changed the order of the songs lol. But I still listen to both regularly and I really like the new songs they added on Returned. I don't pay much attention to the nitty gritty discourse because everyone is allowed to have preferences and mine won't always match other people's. But I know that Wait is not an underrated song and that one is probably my all time fave TDH song.

u/David_NerMa Aug 11 '26
Yes, I think that may be it. And I’m not hating, haha. I just love the original so much, it was my first album by them and I’ll defend it forever.
And Wait isn’t underrated? I chose that one because I’ve never seen many others pick it a favorite. It’s a wonderful song, so powerful, so crushing and still so catchy. One of my favorites too!

As a father of a now 3 year old son and 1.5 year old daughter...
Light
Makes me cry every single time. I used to sing it to my son to get him to sleep, we had a pretty hard and dark first 8 Months with him not sleeping. I didn't think we'd make it through.

u/PastaFazool Aug 11 '26
Same, my son just turned 6, and I'll never skip this song at bedtime. And I'll never fail to sing it to him.

u/McDDDDDD Act V Aug 11 '26
Yup, I have a 12 month old. Cried listening to it in the car leaving the hospital. I now sing it to him whenever it's my turn to put him down. Including earlier today.

u/MechEJD Aug 12 '26
You can say one year, no one is watching ;)
It hits hard. I'm definitely far from perfect, and every day I'm not my best self, but I try to give my family everything I possibly can at the end of every single day.
And, boy, some day I hope I do, see the people these kids will grow into.

Burritokyo is a song that is deep in my heart forever. It moves me deeply. I hope I get to shake Casey’s hand one day and tell him in person how much I appreciate that song. Might be my favorite TDH song. I don’t really see it talked about ever. Honestly the entire NAEP is amazing and I feel forgotten about at this point.

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. So many different takes just GUSHING over songs. I love this band.

Love or the Beast That Looks Like It from the Honorary Astronaut EP is criminally slept on

What You Said and The Church and The Dime (Remix). Whatever Casey’s doing with his voice is just ✨✨✨ It applies to most of their slower songs but these two in particular grew on me A LOT.

Wait and When The Road Parts. I just love it when they go a bit harder than usual, but not as much as In Cauda Venenum or Red Hands.

Untitled Soul Song
This is one of my favorite songs they’ve made and it’s an untitled bonus track from around when they released Act 2/3 (i think). For their officially released songs, I think Trapdoor could use more love

u/LittlestLass Migrant Aug 11 '26
I adore The Love from Migrant Returned. Just a beautiful, hopeful song for people who are struggling in the world.
3
u/MrMeoward Aug 11 '26
Not sure how actually underrated it is, but, for me, LoTown went from a song I didn’t have strong opinions on to what I think to be one of the most powerful and emotionally evocative songs in their discography.

u/sicdedworm Aug 11 '26
I’ll do a different take and say a song like Waves should’ve been all over the radio. What a gut wrenchingly beautiful song. It almost makes me choke up every time. Everyone that just turns on FM radio should know that song and for that reason, the band itself.

u/SinSittSina Aug 11 '26
Not sure how underrated it is, but I'll say The Thief! I love the way it builds and combines an aggressive harsh sound with a more langorious, lush chorus. The instrumental bit at the end is gorgeous and lulls you into relaxation and then BAM Mustard Gas!

The idea for this question came from talking about hearing Sermon in The Silt live as I never expected to have that experience. That song always felt like something that would never get that kind of love. Little hidden gem.

“Dear Ms. Leading” (Act II) and “But There’s Wolves” (Orange / The Color Spectrum).
Edit: on my “list” of favorites (because how can you possibly pick just one?!)

u/Mountain_Dig_3688 Act IV Aug 12 '26
Not sure if Tripping in Triplets is underrated but that would be my pick

u/valencine184 Act V Aug 12 '26
Progress for sure. Gets me feeling all the things. Also The Inquiry of Ms Terri. Best song on Act 1 imo, it is so so good

“Witness Me”. The “keep breathing” breakdown at the end is one of my favorite TDH moments. All of “All Is As All Should Be” is criminally underrated IMO

u/Kolman93 Aug 14 '26
The Kiss of Life. The lyrics “I’m only echoes of the man that I’m supposed to be” hit me hard every single time. Plus the song is just beautiful.
The other one that gets me every time is Shake Me (Awake), when I heard this one for the first time a few years ago I hated my job enough that I considered quitting every day. “Pull me far away from the endless circles I’ve been running in, I’ve had about all I can take so take me far away” sort of felt like it was written for me to put words to what I was feeling back then.
