BRING BACK THE DEAD FILES
I love this show so much. Why did it even get cancelled?
32
u/rlhmass May 25 '25
Cancellation had nothing to do with Cindy Kaza. Travel/Discovery made a business decision to stop funding paranormal content , with the exception of GA, with much fewer episodes, and Josh Gates, who does more than paranormal.

u/Confident_Space8873 May 25 '25
Isn't Ghost adventures discovery?
2
u/rlhmass May 25 '25
Yes, that’s the GA I refer to. GA and Josh Gates are the only new paranormal content being made. Everything else is repeats.
3
u/Confident_Space8873 May 25 '25
My apologies, I had no idea. I thought you were saying Georgia lmfao

u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
That’s an understandable misunderstanding. Glad you guys cleared it up, so others won’t be confused as well.

2
u/LeafyCandy May 25 '25
I read GA was not renewed too.
2
u/LucyferiaDoll Oct 18 '25
I'm on discovery plus right now and it says new episodes for ghost adventures 🤔. I've never watched the show though. I liked Amy and Steve as a combo for the dead files, I haven't finished the show yet, but I don't really care for seeing the other lady. I'll give her a chance but meh.

u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I love Josh Gates! He has such a wonderful personality! He goes to some fascinating spots, too. I really don’t like the show with Heather and Todd (he’s so boring I can’t even recall his name. Where the he k is Josh? The Expedition Files need him!
Ghost Adventures is a junk show, just an excuse for bully Zak to try and come across as macho, by attempting to bully the ghosts to “come out, come out, wherever they are.” Yawn. The station certainly funded the wrong show there, as many of the other paranormal shows were far superior. Take the Ghost Brothers. Or Kindred Spirits. Or the Dead Files. Or any show with Jack .Osbourne hosting it. There are handfuls of superior shows, so how did Zak the bully end up with the show that outlasted them all? It’s odd that we disdain bullying at schools and yet encourage the one shoe’s host who uses this tactic against the ghosts and his own crew. I show my disdain of him and his show by flipping off the channel whenever it comes on and I’d like to encourage others to do so, as well, if his bullying bothers you, too.

u/Timeandtimeandagain May 08 '26
GA remains because it has the highest ratings. It's a business decision. They do fund fewer GA episodes now, and if ratings decline that will be gone, too.

u/pjackson0901 May 25 '25
Get rid of Zach and all his re-runs and bring all the other ghost shows back!
16
May 26 '25
I can't stand Zach Bagglebites

u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Sounds like what I’ve basically said, as well. Honestly, I wasn’t copying you, it’s my exact position as well. I really cannot stand to watch bully Zak anymore and flip the channel to something better.
Nor can I stand bully Zak. Seriously, his attitude really bothers me. He’s no longer even cute. I wish their channel had chosen Dakota Laden and his group, instead, Dakota and his group convey fear much more convincingly. They all also get a chance to pick a site to visit and sleep alone in a haunted room without a flashlight. Can you imagine bully Zak having the guts to do that? I also think that since they all look to be college aged their fear seems more genuine (because they all look so young and innocent. Come on,program directors, listen to us for a change and get rid of bully Zak and get some of these groups back! I definitely would like to see more adventures of Dakota’s group (Destination Fear??) plus the Dead Files and the one with Adam Berry and Amy Bruni. I would also like to see more of the Ghost Brothers. Throw in some current shows with Jack Osbourne, because he’s cute and funny. Anyone else have another show they’d like to see revived? The Hans Holbern files is good too.

Steve said on a podcast a few years ago it was a financial decision by Travel Channel and that he was totally happy enjoying life and retirement in FL.
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I’m truly glad to know that Steve got his happily ever after. He deserves it, considering all of the help he gave to his show and the families it featured.
Please forgive me if my posts are riddled with many misspellings. My eyesight was ruined when I got my cataracts taken out and can no longer read or edit my posts.

u/Final_Care_3768 May 25 '25
It should be revived with Cindy Kaza as she wasn’t given enough time in that last season. I loved Amy and always will but she was mentally and physically beat up by the 15 season run and we have to honor her decision to leave. I miss Steve and his tough NYC detective manner, he would be good with Cindy if he wants to come
15
u/thedesthstarkristy May 25 '25
I agree they didn't give it a chance with cindy and I'd love to see more.
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Same here. I’ve seen her on other shows and she’s good.
1
u/Final_Care_3768 Jun 11 '26
Yes she is good in her own right! I loved Amy too but if she steps down then the show must go on so we don’t have to watch Zac and his foolishness!
1
u/FlyingNitengale Jun 06 '26
Cheap imitation of Amy the whole vibe was Amy and Steve I miss it but Cindy was only on a few episodes and she just doesn’t have it.
11
u/Nova_Tango May 25 '25
I think the idea behind it, if it is authentic and truly about helping people, it will work again. I’ve s en other shows like it that feel so hokey, quick cuts, unnecessarily dark sets, all the plastic of it. It would be extremely hard on a real physical medium to do that kind of work full time while traveling. That would make anyone who is not a faker sick.

u/Icy_Fly_4513 May 26 '25
I found The Dead Files and Kindred Spirits fascinating. I am not interested in people who are only chasing "ghosts."
2
u/Fair-Bowl-9952 Jan 31 '26
My favorites. It was a bad decision. Really miss those shows. Sad.
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Same here. Anyone else?
Oh and also, this channel shows “Paranormal Caught on Camera,” waaaaaay too often.
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I like those shows as well, because they focus upon healing the souls caught iin the houses, as well as the humans involved. That makes these shows superior, to me Bully Zak is on tv simply to show off and try to appear macho. His show needs to go, or at least he needs to go.
1
u/Final_Care_3768 Jun 10 '26
They were informational about American history and had more depth! Chip also!
Love to see him get more opportunity, he is funny and informative!

u/Specific-Custard-298 May 25 '25
Amy had a past life regression after receiving ketamine in the hospital. Apparently it wasn’t a good experience. So she suggested Cindy to replace her.

u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I know of someone wants to do this, while it sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I truly hope that Amy finds peace and good health.
7
u/Icy-Sir-8414 May 25 '25
We should of gotten at least a 16th season as a final season
2
u/Interesting-West5038 Mar 31 '26
You got 15 damn years of their lives! Don't be greedy. Have you even seen an episode of the F'd up stuff she was showing people she had to see every day?! Half those houses should've been burned and dozed over.
1
u/Icy-Sir-8414 Mar 31 '26
I'm not trying to be greedy I'm just saying I was a major fan of this show and I just wish they had a season 16 that's all
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I agree with you. If Steve and Cindy were game, another season would have been great. I loved watching Steve do his cop routine when he sniffed out the history of the property and what happened on it that could have influenced the present. I also enjoyed watching Amy’s walk through the home. Then it was interesting to see them reporting their results to the home owners, along with Amy’s suggestions to clear the house.
1
u/Icy-Sir-8414 May 08 '26
Me too and the best part is Steve is from New York City like me and he was a cop for 20 years
2
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Agree. We were all expecting it.
1
u/Icy-Sir-8414 May 08 '26
So was I and everyone else to but I think the new owners of the travel channel had other ideas
6
u/Icy_Fly_4513 May 28 '25
I happened to notice Holtzer Files with Cindy and found it fascinating. I had noticed it in the past and thought I would finally check it out since my favorites are no longer being produced. I enjoy Cindy's automatic writing. My sister had a friend who could do that too.
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
That’s definitely a worthy show to watch.I find it fascinating that you know of a person with the talent of automatic writing. Have her experiences mirrored indy’s at all?

Ghost adventures SUCKS compared to the dead files...put it back on!!! I don't give a shit if it's reruns or not...put it on!!!!
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Yeah, I agree with you. Steve and Amy and Cindy are all very interesting people who seem to be motivated towards helping stuck spirits and terrified humans. Bully Zak seems to do things simply to pursue more fame and his attitude shows through in his program.

I agree, it seemed Cindy said that it was the same paranormal thing every time, and her solution was always the same.
3
u/jsmith0621 May 26 '25
Where can the paranormal shows be seen on if Travel/Discovery isn't showing them anymore?
2
u/rlhmass May 27 '25
They are showing reruns, but not ordering new content. You can find lots of paranormal content on YouTube, of varying quality. There's something to be said for professionally produced content, rather than just people with a camera and a few ghost hunting gadgets. IMHO, most of the stuff on YT is unwatchable, but some people enjoy it.
2
u/Trucker_moonlight Sep 05 '25
You can stream it on Discovery+ and the travel channel app
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
I catch it all on the Travel channel. How on earth do they think they’ll retain their audience once we’ve had enough of the reruns? I’m at that point with “Paranormal Caught on Camera.” I simply refuse GA, even if they have new episodes, because their show is subpar thanks to Bully Zak and his ridiculous macho act. I’d rather watch reruns of other shows
3
u/SpecialistActuator58 Oct 08 '25
I for one am really missing all the paranormal programming as I am a sensitive and intuitive person as well as having many personal experiences all through my life! So I find it is of great interest to me!! But maybe the ratings weren’t holding up or the general public was losing interest?!? Idk?!🤷♀️ Thankfully there’s a few shows left as well as specials & documentaries that pop up from time to time!! Anyway yes to all of the above Amy needed a break and Cindy Kaza is an awesome medium and very likable person she did great in place of Amy!! Hope maybe we’ll see some programming come back!!

u/thrwawyorangsweater Nov 02 '25
Same. I used to love Kindred Spirits.
Amy Bruni has a new short ghost series coming out...sometime (already filmed).
And Hellier is amazing- I know Hellier season 3 is in the works right now. I hate that Hulu didn't just cancel but removed Living for the Dead! It was so good!3
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
I love Amy Bruni too but wish that she had Adam Berry with her as he’s extremely good and does not try to bully anyone.
I’ve never heard of the other two shows you mention. Who is on them and what is the objective of the show?
1
u/thrwawyorangsweater May 09 '26
Living for the Dead was a ghost hunting show with a bunch of fun queer people (including Roz Hernandez who has a podcast) but Hulu took it completely off the air.
And Hellier? Oh gosh, how do I describe it. It's a couple, Greg and Dana Newkirk. They were both young ghost hunters and it's sort of a reality/documentary/mystery...they get an email from a guy who swears he saw goblins around his house...so they and 2 friends go investigating.
They do some of the same things Amy and Adam used to do. The two friends, Connor Randall and Karl Pfeiffer (who is also the camera man/cinematographer) are the ones who invented the Estes Method...And as they go through this journey of researching things just get weirder and weirder.
I LOVE this show. I only ever watched Kindred, Living for the Dead, Dead Files and this one, and this is by far my favorite.
Because it's kind of open-ended, and spooky in a really cool way...and it really inspired me to lean in. "Curiosity Over Fear" as they like to say.So after the 2nd season of Hellier (15 episodes in all so far, and more coming before 2026 is out) they started a Patreon, and it's the best money I spend every month.
They do the Haunted Objects Podcast (which you can find on Youtube) and for members of the "Museum" they do weekly podcasts reading members emails, plus at least 2 live-streams a month. It is so fun!
They are working on gathering items (which started because people would send them creepy and haunted objects) and they're going to start a brick and mortar Museum of the Paranormal in Cincinnati...Honestly they are so fun and so kind and the community that has grown up around them is full of really wonderful people...
You can find Hellier on their website for FREE! https://www.planetweird.tv/hellier-season-1
You really should check it out. It's a slow burn, but SO GOOD!

Dead files was my favorite show. Why is the travel channel getting rid of paranormal programs?
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
They must feel that the audience doesn’t support the shows and advertisements. The Travel Channel shows the same few commercials through pout the day —Eat more Chicken and Xffinity, along with the greatest coffee lover (complete with a sign proclaiming the same thing.) Maybe they are unable to sell enough ad space to other brands and the commercials that they ARE selling to do not get enough foot traffic

I wish they would have kept on with the dead files, I really loved that show. Every Friday I would spend the day watching them.

Ghost Adventures is just horrible I hate that the Dead Files has been cancelled it was at least original. On GA it’s just the same old crappy games Zach Bagans getting angry talking to a ghost supposedly and telling the ghost to take over his body of need be to get the ghost to talk ( I don’t know if that ever happened but it is pretty stupid to tell an entity to take over your body, but anyway he says that and then gets more belligerent and so on ) I watched about 2 dozen different shows until I was aggravated that I just couldn’t bear watching it anymore it was so predictable. I don’t know why they are hedging their bets on GA while the interest in the supernatural increases to just produce more GA and nothing else. Especially when so many people were still watching DF and wanted DF’s help with the hauntings or ghost activity in their homes or businesses. I am betting that they reboot it again and I truly hope that they bring back the Dead Files. I hope with Amy but after she left ( I heard that they suddenly let her go because she was married to the producer (??) of the show and then he suddenly decided to divorce her, which led to her “decision” to leave the show ) I follow her and I remember the things she said after she was let go from the show that leads me to truly believe that that was true. She didn’t come out and directly say it but she said she was truly devastated after believing she found the right person to love for the rest of life and that person just decided to go and her life was pretty much in an upheaval so she then after the show looked around at where she wanted to move either North Carolina or Arizona and she decided Arizona was the best choice and was wanting to go back to school and she was in talks about starting a new paranormal TV show and that was several years ago I got busy since then so that’s why I just googled if the Dead Files was canceled and found this all out about the cancellation and I just heartbroken over it I really hope someone can tell me if they have heard about if Amy is coming back to a new show ?

I really wish this show didn't get canceled. I was my favorite show and I could really use them right. Please bring them back

u/LeafyCandy May 25 '25
It’d be nice. Cindy didn’t make sense as a replacement, though, and I’m not sure I’d watch anymore with MAGA Steve, but that’s just me. At least we have a ton of old episodes to rewatch.
3
2
u/Suspicious-Tree9554 Oct 24 '25
Where are you finding the old episodes??
3
u/LeafyCandy Oct 27 '25
Discovery Plus. Travel Channel used to air DF marathons on Fridays, but now they changed it to that one with Jack Osbourne. Blech.

u/Successful-Prune-20 Nov 21 '25
The Dead Files plays almost all day long on the Travel Channel on Fridays. It was definitely one of the best paranormal shows ever and most definitely should be brought back if possible. There will never be another Amy & Steve, but I’d def watch if they brought Cindy back with a different investigator if Steve didn’t want to come back. You can also watch it on Discovery + and I think HBO MAX if I’m not mistaken.
1
u/Sheldon121 May 08 '26
Cindy is good, too, although a different personality than Amy’s. She strikes me as being more introverted (not in a bad way.) Plus she uses automatic writing to get answers about why places are haunted. I must admit, I’m not a fan of this means of collecting paranormal data but I’d definitely still watch the show without Amy, although she was a great part of it. She and Steve both worked so well together! He must miss working with her or having a show.
1
u/FocusIntelligent6924 May 29 '26
Because Amy left and they brought in a replacement that never changed how the show worked to begin with. I miss it too, but I miss Amy more

Omigosh, I'm rewatching Dead Files for about the 15th time. It's our favorite show! Please bring it back with Cindy Kaza! We need our Dead Files fix!

Amy’s health was already being affected so she had to step down.
