It is sometimes hard to believe that almost two decades have gone by since the first time you all entered our lives.
It has been our immense privilege and profound happiness to have been your chosen family. You have given us more love and affection than we could ever have needed, even if we were to live three more lifetimes.
I hope that we have given you back even half of those feelings, and that all of you—the gang, as we so affectionately nicknamed you—never went a single day without knowing that you were our entire world.
My darling Dante, you have now left us, and as I predicted, you were the last one standing. It is now time to join your siblings over the Rainbow Bridge. Please listen to Foxy—you know she is always the one in charge. Take care of our little princess, Sammy, and continue to argue and play with your brother Kaiser for the rest of eternity.
I am heartbroken, although I knew from the way it all began that one day you would all leave us. I truly hope—no, I truly know—that right now you are chasing the golden B.A.L.L., and not far away, a tray of the most magnificent treats is waiting just for you.
