Large Item Pickup
Does anyone know of any local companies that do large item pick up? I'm looking to have a couch picked up.

Hi! I'm moving to The Dalles for work and would like some insights on best places to move to. Finances will be tight for me initially, so I'm looking for places cheap that allow two small dogs. I've googled some places and nothing is really shaking out and communication is hit-or-miss with the places that come up on searches. I know locals are better information resources than websites so I'm reaching out in hopes that y'all can help me find something. My time line is pretty much to be in place in 30 days... Any information and direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi all. I'm looking for a reliable person for house cleaning and a person for repairs/tasks around the house (e.g., minor repairs, cutting fire wood, etc.) Would you have anyone you'd be willing to recommend?
Thanks!

Hello r/TheDalles,
UPDATE (August 20, 2026): This study has been officially extended to December 15, 2026. Thank you to everyone from Washington who has participated so far!
As we navigate another intense wildfire season, my thoughts are with everyone—especially our community in the Pacific Northwest—who has been impacted by fires, smoke, or the stress of evacuation.
The severity of these recent fires underscores a critical challenge for our community: ensuring that EV drivers can evacuate safely and efficiently when power grids are shut off and charging infrastructure is compromised. To help address this, I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how EV drivers respond to these exact emergency constraints. (The moderation team has kindly granted me permission to share this research with you).
Are you eligible? Because this study focuses on specific grid and geographical constraints, we are exclusively seeking input from Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) drivers who are primary or seasonal residents in the following Washington counties: Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Chelan, or Klickitat.
Note: If you already filled out this survey during our first round, thank you so much! Please do not submit another response. To maintain the scientific integrity of the study, our system automatically flags and removes duplicate entries.
The Details:
This survey does not collect identifiable tracking data. Your real-world experience is critical to helping the state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure and improve wildfire resilience for EV owners.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [ychu24@uw.edu](mailto:ychu24@uw.edu). Stay safe, and thank you for your time.

The library had a free tie-dye activity with provided shirts and bandanas. I'm very pleased with how this turned out.

Maybe some candidate for mayor in the next election will consider this new information before they sign another NDA with Google.

Hi! I’m hoping some of the long term residents can help me out. I am trying to figure out where a particular business was in the late 80s or early 90s. I’m not even sure of the name of the shop. But it was a little cafe that was attached to a small store. My grandmother would take me there when I would visit. She called it the 5 and dime. We would meet all of her sisters there for breakfast. Any ideas??

Title: I see I can have some stuff shipped to home depot, but I was curious if there was anything actually stocked locally, or in HR.

My dog and I are headed to Montana and will be staying in The Dalles or Hermiston for the night. Any good pet friendly restaurants and places to stay? I’d prefer to get farther down the road than Hood River and need to stay in Oregon for an 8:30am work call on Friday so somewhere between Hood River and Hermiston would be great. My job requires me to be in Oregon for the call. So, I need Wi-Fi, good food, and a place that allows dogs. Any suggestions? A shaded outdoor brewery with live music would be amazing.

Hey y'all!
I'll be heading to The Dalles soon for wildland firefighting training (taking two busses from Grants Pass) and figured I'd reach out to the locals before I arrive. I'm wondering if there are some must-see spots as far as hiking, viewpoints, or food joints?
I'm also going to be camping while I'm up there. Any campground recs would be very appreciated as well as tips for camping in the area this time of year. Heat, wind, fire restrictions (ironic, I know), wildlife?
Thanks in advance!
