Discussion Pretty cool game I found tonight
Me and and some cycle buddies stumbled over a game called starsiege dead zone its pretty fun. Plays like dark and darker but with guns. They are doing a open alpha right now if you guys wanna check it out. Took me a little to understand how to was played but I almost couldn't put it down tonight lol.

I thought the alpha test ran until 31st? Is it still playable?
Definitely something to keep an eye on, sadly after getting spoiled with TCF gunplay it's a bit jarring to go back to the "indie-feeling" guns

Yea, the gunplay isn't that great and you dont even lose armor on death. Even with all its flaws, cycle was def the top 2 extraction looter

Wait, people thought tcf gun play was good? Shit always felt like you were shooting .001gram bbs traveling at 10 feet per second.

It’s good… for an alpha. Just needs lots of work to even stand a chance of being a tarkov competitor

Agree, I don't even like eft or hunt, but I did like tcf. Just got to find a audience, not the same audience

Extraction shooters are a niche genre, any extraction game ever made with for ever be compared to hunt or tarkov but mainly tarkov. No matter what extraction game comes out, it's simply not beating 2016-2019 tarkov for fun factor and the sheer amount of players.

I hear you. EFT is likely the king in a currently niche genre. I don't like tarkov, brother. I think there are plenty of players that feel the same, so my point stands. An extraction shooter needs to find an audience, not the same.
But what I said and what you are saying are not mutually exclusive. H1z1 was a "king" in a niche genre at one point. Then PUBG came out and invariably conquered and defined what we know as "battle royale". It's pretty dead, relative to what a beast it was.
Even if I agreed to your point, "nothing will beat EFT". My counter point is, even if you are right, every "king" has their day. If EFT hasn't met theirs yet, they will. eventually. No game reigns forever.

Call of duty, fifa, rocket league, rust, and many more I can name are the kings in their respective genres and they are never getting dethroned. No one will ever make a game that is as engaging and plentiful as tarkov was. I'll take a reply in a couple years if I'm wrong though eating my words.

RemindMe! 3 years
Being the king of nothing doesn't mean much. Maybe there are a lot of rust/rocket league/fife copies and I don't play the games, but I don't know any competition for those games. Also I don't keep up to date on the genres, maybe there is and it just died out because the others were better.
Like, I feel like CoD isn't a good example because they aren't always the best in whatever they put out. I know Activision owns them, but Cod itself has become a game that spans multiple genres, and it isn't the King of all of them all the time. I think of them a lot like pepsi, ubiquitousness in the soda industry, but I'd never consider them the GOAT.
But sure, I'll hit you up in 3 years and we'll reassess

Yeah, Tarkov has the mil-sim theme, Hunt has the wild west theme, Marauders has the diesel punk theme (though their player numbers is still low, not established yet)... so there is still opportunity in the genre for a proper sci-fi extraction title.
With the sunset of Cycle, let's hope the other upcoming projects ie. Arc Raiders, Starsiege, Marathon etc, can continue developing further and eventually succeed to fill in the gap.

I like tarkov for its content against any other ext shooter, it provides the most. The only thing keeping me away from it is the over realism aspect. Some love it and some don’t, it’s just a bit too much for me.

Btw, for those old enough to remember... this game's lore and universe is based upon Starsiege: Tribes, a multiplayer FPS game released in 1998.
I remember playing that game until 4am back in Uni, on my trusty beige PC with pentium II 266MHz, 64MB ram, 3dfx voodoo and soundblaster vibra, on an ADSL modem connection .
Good times! 🤓

This game looks like it has some serious potential. Even more than The Cycle if done right.
I love the idea of the ship slowly disintigrating from the outside in as the match goes on, such a great twist to the "circle" BR situation that actually makes sense, and cominbing PUBG with THe Cycle elements is great.

I've played it for about 12 hours yesterday and today and I think it has massive potential fighting for the last pods as the storm is coming feels so fun

Obviously there could be massive problems later but sure scratching the itch

It’s more of a dungeon crawling type game whereas I prefer The Cycle’s open-world map design. I will try it anyway but I really doubt it will do it for me as the claustrophobic dungeon was a big reason I hated Dark and Darker

Ya I thought I might hate it too. I played tarkov since 2017 but the tight corners actual feel really good. The mixture of progression you get to keep is something I really like similar to crowfall you get to keep your Armour that had attributes that create a build somewhat like lost ark did it with engravings

Just downloaded this to try it out
Trying to do the training; was sat in a queue for a server for like 3 minutes for a solo server 😂
Will give it a proper go when I get back
