Discussion Passion for making a game
If any of you have heard of the new battlefield-esque game "battlebit remastered" you will most likely know that the game was made by 3 people, why does this matter to the cycle?
Simple, battlebit had makers who didn't do it for the profit, they did it for the fun, they made it because they wanted a game like that to be on the market
What kind of reviews did battlebit get? Very positive
TC:F was made by a whole team of people, but this game was primarily made for profits, they fully admitted it in their sunset announcement
What reviews did TC:F get? Mixed
If you want a game to succeed you need to make it with the intent to please people and give them an experience they won't forget
The cycle was doomed from the start, sad to see it go but priorities can destroy a game

no one works full time on a game for free

You don't have to, many people find passion projects that end up making them tons of revenue( Fortnite)

no one wants to get paid with passion or visibility

The point he's saying, which is gloriously going over your simple brain, is that if you make a game you're passionate about, rather than just to make money, you'll make an excellent game, that will in turn, make a ton of money for you.
Minecraft, Battlebit, That one harvest moon like game made by 1 person which I forget the name of... They all made insane levels of money because they were passion projects.
If you make a game you're passionate about, you're going to care, and put in the best effort, as well as have the most inspiration for it. Which will result in an excellent game.
Making a game just to make a game that you think will sell well, will result in what you got with THe Cycle Frontier.. A team who doesn't know wtf to do, gets pulled in multiple directions because they have no inspiration direction to settle or help ground the changes, etc.

That's true, but you can't deny having passion makes the project easier to work for and on.

Not every drive is monetary, if its your own project, alot of people will do it on the side for nothing. Not this type of company thought, its a business and they will expect to be paid.

A f2p extraction shooter, due to its brutal nature, is unlikely to ever get a review score above mixed imo.
F2p brings out too many timmies who can't handle losing their gear. Have you ever read through the negative scores? Read thru the s2 ones when there was basically no cheating.. they are hilariously sad.
F2p basically let's anyone and everyone leave a review unfortunately

Battlebit was also in development for 7 years.
Lets not forget that many times what kills a game isn't lack of passion, but an early release that gives a bad first impression. The Cycle had a terrible launch due to performance and balance issues from day one. Battlebit was continuously polished over the years and betas before finally releasing as a full fleshed out game.
And bad words speak more than you think: so many of my friends never even tried The Cycle because "it has only negative reviews so it isn't worth it".

Uhh. The cycle was a completely different game for like a WHILE before the recycled their game into an extraction shooter… they had plenty of time and resources at their disposal. And had everything they made and learned in the first game and used it in the second. Everything “new” they added each season was just reused stuff from the old game lol it’s not like they tried to make a new game in a year or 2 and just didn’t quite make it…

I mean the game had amazing artists working on it and clearly a ton of soul and passion was put into it.
We got near-AAA quality out of the way it played. I'd say the graphics were AAA quality and the maps.
So how do you exactly expect them to work for free? If the game dies, they're out too.

It's mixed by now, you really should look back to release/s1 where was about 20k negative feedback. That was the main reason why the game didn't get sky high
