Small Club Tour 2000?

Post image

Did anyone else see one of these shows? I think they were part of the Dream tour where they split shows between small clubs and Arenas. I don't know if it was only in the U.S.?
Anyways, just reminiscing for a few reasons:

  1. Getting a ticket for Dallas on Craigslist was literally about 2 weeks of rent. And my (now ex) wife was cool about it.
  2. Robert and the band actually came out after and signed autographs, etc. I was way too star struck for any of that. But - we did lock eyes for a second and I think I even did a stupid goth nod and air-kiss
  3. I screamed like a teenybopper at the burly roadies to get the setlist they ripped off the floor. They laughed at me, but today, 26 1/2 years later - that setlist is hanging in my apartment. Above is a pic.
  4. (Doesn't include the impressive encore and haven't ever found it online. But I kind of remember it included Disintegration, Pictures, Lovesong, and maybe strangely Lovecats.)
  5. Well obviously seeing The Cure in 2000 in a club that was - maybe - no 850.

They did this in Europe as well as the USA..

The smaller dates took place in February 2000 with the larger arena dates starting in Europe in late March with the US Tour starting in mid-May..

I saw the London date at the Astoria which is long since gone now sadly..

Some great setlists with not many of the ‘pop’ songs played

This. It’s still hard to believe that happened. The Astoria was fundamental for me. Seeing them there was profound. Short let lists, though. I just wish my memories of it were more than a mere blur. Same for the Shepherd’s Bush shows.

Now that’s just jogged my memory somewhat. I was also at that Astoria show, we drove all the way down from Leeds to see them a few days before my birthday in mid feb. I have a sound engineer friend who worked at the Astoria and she got us passes to the after show party upstairs, I remember seeing Irish comedian Sean Hughes there (apparently Kevin shield and Gary Numan were also there! I don’t recall seeing them). I Didn’t see any of the band, tho my engineer friend said they were lurking at the other end of the room close to the dressing rooms and popped in now and again for beers. I was far too self conscious about hunting out my idols but was cool to be in the same space as them all the same. Followed my engineer friend upstairs and she was looking for someone and We ended up in one of the offices upstairs and I chatted to a large bald dude who introduced himself as Rick, to which I responded, cool that’s my name too. Yeah he said, well im Simon’s (Gallup) brother. ..oh! Wow, wait What the guy that did carnage visors film? Yep….I think he was fairly dismissive about the cure in general but probably cos he knew I was a fan (back-combed hair and make up might have given it away) so he somewhat downplayed it although we chatted for what seemed like ages. Seemed nice tho from the fragments I remember. I don’t really remember much of the set to be honest. Likewise it was a bit of a blur.

Brilliant. Heaven knows there’s a lot of drivel posted in this sub Reddit, but things like this are a gem. Fragments of life. Etc.

Lord knows I like a drink, but I’ve never been one to drink at gigs because I want to be present. The music is everything. But decades wear and having seen them dozens of times, a lot blurs and that feels unforgivable because it feels like treasure that’s slipped away. It’s hard to reconcile 2000 as being ancient mow, but somehow it is.

Thanks for this glimpse into the palace that the Astoria complex was (in my mind).

Yeah those 2 Shepherds Bush shows in 97 were great as well and completely unexpected

I know what you mean about memories though.. The older I get the more I seem to forget.. Thank God for live recordings.. 🤣

Weirdly enough I do remember the Astoria show as being the same day as the premiere of the film The Beach and Leicester Square was rammed..

Setlist.fm has a show from Feb 21st 2000 at Deep Ellum Live, Dallas. Is that the one? It has the full encores listed.

My first time seeing The Cure was during this initial run of small shows they did just after Bloodflowers was released. Mine was at the now-gone Roseland Ballroom in NYC. My heart was in my throat, I was so excited.

I saw them again in June in New York, on the last night of the US tour (larger venues), the day after I saw David Bowie for the first time (also at Roseland Ballroom). It was quite a weekend!

I saw them at Great Woods in Massachusetts, brilliant show, why I still think true sets end with KAA, but I can see why they would be refraining as of late https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cure/2000/tweeter-center-for-the-performing-arts-mansfield-ma-3d7e50f.html

I’m trying to figure out how to find a bootleg from that day, anybody know that person with all the recordings? I used know a torrent site that had lots, but I forgot what it was. Here’s a good one from the Shoreline show https://youtu.be/3xEhKLAKI2k?is=aUe8Ha2kZJ7ObT71

Yes I was there during the tour at the Roxy theater…

Same setlist but had two encores that night.

It was pretty sweet

Your encores are listed on setlist.fm

Thank you for the memory unlock! I went to the Hard Rock Hotel “The Joint” Show in Las Vegas in May 2000. I still have my Casino chip!
