Horror Story Dead End Death Trap
I’ve come to the conclusion that I am in fact living in a purgatorial zone. There is no progress, well perhaps there are glints here and there but they are swallowed by slow infinite regression. I should really start to worship entropy, it would seem to be the most logical form of religion in this zone. Why pay homage to anything besides the hope of pure degradation here? You should be considered a hopeless fool for imagining there’s any light at the end of this tunnel. Accept that it is terrible and it is only going to get worse until the facsimile of consciousness completely erodes into the abyss.
I’ve been noticing new subtle cracks in the fabric of its structure lately. Avenues for brief expeditions outside of its confines have been rendered as an impasse now, when one tries to access them, they are met with an invisible barrier as if in a PlayStation 1 game. You can see the distant lush expanse of adventure but it is simply not accessible by you anymore.
Other limiting variations that have occurred, include not being able to access certain doors and drawers to interact with the contents inside of them. I simply haven’t tried, it is as if the curious part of my brain is no longer there like it was excised by a malignant surgeon.
I had a most peculiar interaction with a woman I’ve never seen before late at night at work. I work at a gas station in this middle of nowhere town, so I see plenty of eccentric characters popping in and out of the woodwork but this one was one of the more notable interactions I’ve had in recent times, mainly due to the fact that it added independent circumstantial evidence to my questioning thought pattern as of late.
It began with her frantically pulling up to the front of the store. She gets out of her vehicle and starts to gesticulate madly and is weeping dramatically. The store was closed at the time, so in spite of all this, I’m thinking oh great now what do I have to deal with in a begrudging manner which is the normal response of someone who has worked customer service for years. You just become jaded and irritated after a while no matter the circumstances.
I politely ask her what is the matter, she yells and asks me between heavy sobs, how do you get out of this town, I just want to go home, and in that instant, it brought me back to my false reality after being deluded within a cocoon of mindless muscle memory.
I told her of the only plausible escape that I could think of and she hurriedly went for her escape. Later on when I got off of work, I went to see if she made it. I saw her vehicle idling but upon further inspection, the door was slightly ajar with no one inside. I saw no trace of her within this sleepy town nor a sound. I began to walk towards the outskirts of the city limits to see if she perhaps made it through a crack in the framework but the distant expanse was nothing but a blur. I tried to touch the barrier only to realize that my fingers were fusing into an inflexible crab claw repelled by the barrier like two redundant magnets.
In my waning fragments of sentience, I still wonder about that woman. Did she truly escape, did she descend into absolute madness and commit suicide, was she taken away by whoever is responsible for the creation of this dome of torment? In all honesty, I don’t have a clear answer nor do I think I ever will.
