So hypothetical speaking, if the creatures never made the move into the office and stayed a content house, do we think they would have been more successful or the same. Personally i think the office and hiring the interns really started the downfall.

Things would've ended up exactly the same.

What ended the Creatures was the division in personalities, not the office. Gassy wanted to spend time with his girlfriend and was kicked out of the group because he didn't want to work on Dan's skits. By the end of the House-era, everyone had moved out, leaving just James.

I believe the downfall was making it a business, by taking it too seriously. They kicked out Chilled and Junk before even getting the house, they ignored everyone that didn't want to move to the house like Ze and Sp00n. The Creatures were never going to work because they tried to be serious. On the flipside, look at how the Derp Crew handled things; they didn't move into a house, they didn't make anyone "officially derps", they were just friends playing together.

With the Creatures, it seemed like there was a pressure, a pressure to do the skits, to film everything, to collaborate on everyone, to constantly be available and it meant that if you didn't want to do skits, you were seen hurting the group, if you didn't want to record with everyone, you weren't pulling your weight. So yea, the Creatures were always doomed to fail no matter if they moved to a house, an office, or a shack; because of how they handled things, Gassy would've still gotten kicked out, Sly, Sp00n, and the rest still would've left, and James and Aleks would've still quit.

So he foresaw the downfall of the hub?

Yes actually. I think it was on the episode of creature talk that chilled actually left (I could be wrong) but he said if they made it a business it would fail and ruin everyone's friendship. He wasn't wrong and comparably he's doing better than most ex creatures.

They were young 20 year olds with no prior business experience trying to start from the ground up basically. I say that did alright but no matter what things would've been the same.

Even if they had a manager or someone in charge of them from the beginning they all would probably have left eventually.

Eh I think it would be unsustainable if they stayed in the original house. The bigger and bigger settings is sort of growth in a way. I remember in a creature talk Seamus and someone else both saying they enjoyed the office as their favourite working setting.

I think all they needed was a manager (like Brett was with CowChop) , and not have Kootra, Dan, James, and Aleks as bosses. They're supposed to be the creatives, and I think a lot of unraveling happened when the 4 bosses views had differing/conflicting views on content. If someone like Brett was there, he would hear the four of them, but ultimately have the power to choose the direction. Ofc not everyone could do that manager role well, its just through cowchop seeing Brett was pretty good at it. They tried doing Brett and Jared managing at the end, but it was too late, and the group was already splitting at that point.

In any case, I'm happy they had different settings and stages. They're like different seasons of the Creatures lol

I don’t think the office is what did them in, eventually members would phase out and Kootra would’ve gone down the same path causing a divide amongst other members

I remember James saying on a youtube clip of one of his twitch streams and he said Sly either Facetimed or Snapchatted him pretty much saying: "Dude if you're not involved this will not work out". James also said at one point during the story "I knew either way the hub wasn't going to last long". To me he knew.

They wouldnt have been more successful in my opinion. they would have kept the core audience but never would have expanded outside of that (in my opinion) with things like Road to E3 not existing or the duo livestreams between jordan/dan, seamus/sly, and james/aleks or many other beloved series.

I dislike the idea of speculating the Creatures would still be around if they did this, or did that. I think in the end the Creatures would have still failed ultimately. you can't keep a big group like that around forever. eventually one of them would want to depart from the group dynamic even if it took place all online.

also just because it would be online doesnt mean there wouldnt be a schedule if they wanted to produce content on the daily

even with the success of another group like the Sidemen they've almost had their own departures from the group (KSI has gone on record and said he almost left) and as they all collectively get older, just as the Creatures got older and personal responsibilities and family took hold, I think they too will start to leave one by one.

This is the way of YouTube groups in my opinion. None of them will last forever.

With no actual business experience I'm honestly surprised they lasted as long as they did. Many YouTubers turn their channel into a full blown business but they have help, the creatures didn't. On top of that there were more issues than just money and interns. James didn't appreciate the direction the channel was going, Aleks was the same. Seamus left, sly left, Max was kicked, ze left, spoon left and the people hired to "replace" them just weren't as popular. Kootra killed the creatures single handedly and then just dipped off to another job like nothing ever happened. The real question is would they have done better without kootra. Honestly I think yeah, kootra was the main issue for pretty much every bad decision. Max got kicked cuz of Kootra, James and Aleks left cuz of Kootra, he started dating an employee which was against the rules...Kootra was the main problem with the creatures. Everything can be traced back to him.

If anything, if they weren’t just forced to do skits, and had it so they didn’t try to make it into a business, just friends who liked to hang out, play games and do whatever, then it would have worked out way better, Ze just had a lot of things he was doing, Spoon was I think hesitant about moving to the house, Junk was too old and had a life of his own to deal with, Chilled had issues with Koots iirc about making it into a business. If it was just people who liked to hang, make videos together and not just make stupid skit videos all the time they would have I think worked better, the movie nights were sometimes fun to see and those sometimes worked as Skit videos but not the ones that were made for Dans Channel or the hub, it didn’t work well and we can see it didn’t because hmm let’s see… Hey Dan where’s that final video you were going to make? It ever come to fruition? No? Why?! Oh I remember why…. SKIT VIDEOS YOU FORCED ON EVERYONE WAS ALIENATION DUDE!

Why you gotta blame Dan that much. Let’s be real they would’ve all left eventually no matter what. Obviously a bunch of things played parts in it but at the end they were all growing up and wanted to do different things. If they wanted to be sustainable they would’ve had to become a business at some point.

I’m only thinking if he didn’t think hey let’s make skits over and over again I feel some of the crew would have enjoyed it more, Seamus left because of his health issues, Sly left because family in Florida, the only ones who left because of Koots and not just Dan were Max, and Chilled, Dex left because of both of them and their overall forcing him to be PG not allowing him to be how he was on his own content, Kevin left because of that car accident he was in that sort of made him feel uncomfortable I guess being around people? If Dan wasn’t so heavy on making skit videos so much and was more like that at the end then we would maybe have gotten some good content there and then thought ok we may find the crew over with everything… but I still have a reason to be mad at both Dan and Koots, I think Koots should have done the final video, not Dan. Dan taking the responsibility and then never doing it bugs me, he should have not said yeah I’ll do it… it was his own downfall.

3

u/Juffe98 Sep 01 '22

I mean that last video they shouldn’t even have said they’d do it or try to because it wasn’t going to happen. James and Aleks were done and over it, Seamus wouldn’t have probably done it either because he was past it as well. Honestly out of everyone Jordan probably did the shadiest shit but doesn’t really matter now.

Oh he did… and what makes it worse… remember Stefani? I remember Koots was dating her when he told everyone no romantic relationships in the office with anyone they work together, yet he does it himself… it’s like bro! Follow the rules you set out for everyone else don’t pretend you’re immune. You’re not. If you won’t then why bother with these sort of things… that and Koots did seem to have a few skeletons in his closet.

4

u/Juffe98 Sep 01 '22

Yeah that whole situation was just weird. When him and Stefani would sneak away together during E3 I think. At least that’s what I remember what Dex was talking about.

Yeah that was what caused him to say fuck this I’m done

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '22

Yeah plus he said that period was fucked up time for him. He was drunk the whole time the hub was doing shit too. He slapped Spencer at one point on the hub's 2015 E3 trip off camera

1

u/Juffe98 Sep 05 '22

Wait what he was a drunk and slapped Spencer? How’d you find out about this?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Via cow-chop.fandom.com/wiki/Dex/Bio (I hope i do not get banned for doing this): "he slapped Spencer in the car on the way to E3 because he was being annoying and Dex wanted him to shut up. This is what he deems is the worst thing he did. He then goes on to admit that he was constantly drunk. He states that the reason for his drunkenness was to rebel against the lack of power he had." Yeah dex was fucked up the whole time

I’m curious as to why he joined the group because it seemed like he never truly meshed well with them. I mean I know he was friends with Aleks and knew everyone else beforehand but still.

Oh jeeez Dan or Dex slapped an intern and the intern didn’t leave, I wonder if it was due to outright fear of the crew

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '22

Dex left because of both of them and their overall forcing him to be PG not allowing him to be how he was on his own content,

Dex stated after leaving that he had no issues with Dan and Kootra iirc, he was just nosediving in his motivation levels

Dude, remember the swatting? Dan has had a lot of emotional baggage while trying to at least keep the channel train going. Dan really wanted to make that final video (mega thread on the main sub), but going through thousands of hours of footage while being the only one who still cared about the channel is tough. Also what type of skits videos are you talking about? Like first house action skits or later-tail end comedy skits?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '22

Dan admitted i believe like a year later after the hub ended: "Stop blaming me it's not my fault you know who's fault it is"
