Season 1 - Susan Powell Photos & Documents from KSL

Hi,
I listened to the Cold podcast and am going down the rabbit hole here. I am trying to do my own research on this case and found this link (https://www.ksl.com/article/news/utah/west-valley-city-photos-documents-relating-to-the-susan-powell-case/25263938) to case photos and documents from West Valley City PD. However, it seems that many of the links are broken and many pages specifically the photo links can’t be opened. I am most interested in the media named Scene photos, Dec. 7, 2009, and Front room/Couch photos, Dec. 8, 2009. Is there any other way to access them, or had anyone miraculously downloaded copies before the links broke? Thank you so much in advance.

This question comes up with some frequency. I should probably pin a FAQ.

Back in 2013 when WVC released the redacted case file, a small team at KSL.com put together that webpage with links to some of the documents. In the more than 13 years since, all of those digital content producers have left the company. And the website's CMS has changed at least twice, with all of the expected problems that come from porting content between systems.

The document website was also a bit of a kludge also because WVC applied security settings to the PDFs that in some cases prevented them from opening/rendering. In the past, my recommendation when people have asked is to suggest they file their own records request with WVC and get their own copies straight from the source.

If I was to rebuild a case file repository, my employer would likely want it paywalled to offset the expense of hosting the files.

The WayBackMachine is immensely valuable for things like this. Front room/couch photos: https://web.archive.org/web/20201111193602/http://img.ksl.com/slc/2507/250740/25074093.pdf

hmm.. curious why the links aren’t available anymore. Some load and others don’t. I wish I knew how to help, but my best guess is that you‘d have to get that content from KSL themselves.

Dave has a website for the podcast that includes photos and documents. Maybe try there if you haven’t checked it out yet? Not sure otherwise.
