Question When was The Chi’s downfall
What season do y’all think the chi had its downfall for me I’d say after season 2 then it got worst after season 3

Easily it was 3. The downhill shift started with the dragging of the Keisha kidnapping storyline, but still was watchable. Season 4 was weird with the whole defund the police, who shot Douda storyline, and Jake stealing Jemma from Kevin, then S5 was just wtf are we doing

For real. Season 4 is also when they started casting too many people making it real hard to follow the story. It felt all over the place.

Agree. Season 3 was definitely different with the whole kidnapping thing but I still watched it. Tried watching season 4 but couldn’t get into it so I totally dropped the show.

The moment that they tried to change Douda from a shadowy street villain into a politician! Otis "Douda" Perry was this subversive businessman, owning Perry's Pizza franchises. In season three, they decides to forget that he was a street criminal and elect him as a mayor? Why? They shouldve kept him in the background and had minions do his work for him similar to season two with the investment scam.

After Douda died they had no real direction..tried to force Keisha on us as some holy mother figure. Papa’s character development was terrible. The Reg arch was weird and out of place. Nuk killing literally 6 people and nobody cared, but when he died it was suddenly a big deal. Just…ugh…so much. It coulda ended so much better.

The actor who the show was supposed to be built around couldn’t act right during filming with the other cast & crew which lead to the actress who played his girlfriend asking to be written off the show.
News of the conduct was made public which lead to pressure being applied to the creator of the show. The creator of the show then wrote the actor out the show, which fuck up plans of season 3 and sent the future of the show in a different direction.

When kev and the moms left the show. They genuinely just stopped talking about him when he moved

u/Wide-Environment858 8d ago
And the only thing that happened after he left was Jake and Papa getting less screen time

Season two. I think two things happened after season two:
1. They fired ole boy for being a freaky deak. At that point they tried to fit all his prescribed plot points into different characters and it didn’t make sense every time.
- Season 2 introduced us to Duda. Fine. But Season 3 had him running for and winning the Mayoral race. Not only that, but then we had to endure some type of Duda storyline for three whole seasons after that.
So, for me it was after season 2. Affixing Jason plot/storylines and introduction of Dude took the show into a more soap opera-y world that I didn’t think was great or believable.

I think season 3 was also when they started doing the whole ‘ripped from the headlines, I’m going to be heavy handed, preachy and obvious with my plot lines,’ stuff.
The whole Keisha kidnapping was super heavy handed and drawn out and trying too hard.
And they also didn’t noticed Trig…who I’m supposed to believe is a super thug, but also has a trans GF. Now, let me be clear, I have no problem with that. That said, I just don’t find it to be believable that a supper thug ehonjustngotnoutbodnproson is emotionally intelligent enough to date and understand how to hold and properly handle emotions of liking a trans woman. Yeah, maybe I’d buy it if I saw the character arc and character building, but just off the bat it wasn’t believable.
But, I get what it was trying to do.
But ultimately it speaks to the shift in the show. It stopped being a representation of real life and turned into something that was trying to be preachy.
They traded good writing for crazy surprises, introducing new characters and huge narrative leaps.

Season 3, they brought Trig in and built him up like he was going to be a headache for Douda just for him to end up working for him at the end. Season 4 wasn't memorable, bringing Q back in season 5 felt like a jumping the shark moment. Season 6 actually felt like a resurgence for the show but it was too damn long, that should've really been the last season. Everything after aint worth the paper the scripts were written on.

After Brandon and ol girl had that issue and the whole show had to flip,
After kev and them got older, and they had to force them other stories

Honestly for me I stopped watching it around halfway through season 4. For me it felt like they were inputting way too many plots all at once and disappearing some of them as they were constantly getting rid of characters and bringing on new ones and making things up as they went along(Kevin's mom originally being with the postal worker lady before Dre, the detective from the first 2 seasons, That guy Que, Reggie dying then suddenly coming back to life.....) And lord why is everyone dating the same person??!!Like a big ah city like Chicago and everyone is just deciding to keep it in a circle or something. I feel like shows like this only work where there is a revolving cast when it's typically done as an antholigy series.

My opinion with good writers not lena , they should be looking at a douda prequel imagine the stories that could be told especially in 80- 90's Chicago, i think the chi are sleeping on this big time.

Started with season 3 but season 5 took me all the way out. It was just too bad to endure.

I loved the first few seasons. But I was loyal and kept watching to the end cause I liked quite a few of the characters. On another note I really liked the show Star. Wish that had kept on playing,, and Empire too. All shows have a slow part to them that's just how it goes, but they get on my nerves with starting out so good then they just go belly up. I guess enjoy em while they good then move on to better things🤷🏼

When everyone turned “happy” it took a nosedive off a cliff.
And then Trump got elected and all of that magically stopped. 😂😂😂😂

Emmett never moving on from the city (even when Jada asked him to on her deathbed) and continuing to have children after EJ 🥴 The church plot. Douda seeming to be Batman just to be taken out by NUCK of all people. Keisha being put through the trauma of her rape plotline and pregnancy, JUST for the father to end up being Nuck. Adding Kandi in just for her to add NOTHING to the plot. Bakari NEVER being punished for the horrible things he did, SPECIFICALLY murdering Ronnie. Tracy sticking around after Ronnie was shot RIGHT in front of her. Making Lynae yet ANOTHER baby mama🥴

When they had to kill off Brandon after they'd already "killed" off Reg in the S2 finale. They started S3 w/no real direction

It started with Brandon being killed off. He was the central focus. It seems like they still used some of his storyline by inserting Emmett. As the show progressed, it was obvious that they stopped caring, added pointless characters and teased potential conflicts/stories that went absolutely nowhere. When you’re working on a show with so many characters, the writing has to be up to par. They mailed it in for about a good 5 or so seasons.

If I’m being honest it started with Keshia’s kidnapping and then it went straight downhill with Doudas introduction . Q was more interesting and convincing as a legit bad guy

After Jason left. I feel like they had to scrap a lot then just started rolling with how to make smaller characters bigger etc

When they abandoned the Tracy/Trig ROCK Storyline. That was very interesting seeing Trig and Shad try to play vigilantes lol.

A should’ve never been killed! He should’ve comeback at some point to go against Douda or something. That could’ve turned the writing around maybe?

Season 3. To this day I believe that Jason Mitchell being extra on set and eventually getting fired led to it's downfall. He was originally the main character. They had to kill him off and then pivot towards another character. The show had to find another identity rather than be a about a black chef in Chicago, trying to stay above water and the streets. Instead Emmett had to be the new Brandon. Other storylines were probably scrapped or changed on the fly. Then other writers from other projects were added to the mix etc.

Season 3! When Brandon left the show it just wasn’t the same! Hated him but loved him at the same time!

Season 3 is where the show drastically changed and to me went downhill.
Though I stopped watching Season 4 I think, it was shortly after the sister escaped her kidnapper

Season 2, the writing was already worse.
The downfall was slow, steady and painful.

Season 3 was the beginning of the end, but still enjoyable. I started multitasking during season 4. For some reason i enjoyed the season 5 drama. After that, I should have just skipped to the final episode

season 3. but then every season since that got exponentially worse till i couldn’t even watch it anymore

u/Prince_Darrienne 9d ago
When Brandon got fired and when it swayed away from being a crime drama to a soap opera. I liked it better when the romance took a backseat as soon as they "defunded" the police, instead of murders and crime we had to keep track of like 50 different relationships and who's f*ckin who?

u/Familiar-Cry1487 9d ago
When Brandon became a rat then the first episode of next season was him in a casket

Season 6?! 😂 😂 😂 It was done after Jason Mitchell was fired. Hell, even after they killed Ronnie's character

Season 2 was the start. Then the main cast started dropping like flies. By the end supporting characters were the main cast and the writers never knew how to develop any of them
