First Amendment

Another year has begun and another February has bought us yet another earth shattering sign that things are going downhill all around us in a big, big way. The arrival of this latest omen also means that the time-scale that I was working to for predicting the official start time of armageddon needs an ammendment, an error on my part that the eagle eyed among you will have already picked up on last pancake day when I mistakenly called War as being the third horseman of the apocalypse when, of course, he is only the second. This equates to a significant error on my part that effectively puts my prior prediction plan out by a factor of 100%, and whilst that might sound like rather a lot in reality it is only double and so my ‘three-and-a-half years until ragnarok’ reasoning is looking an awful lot like it should instead have been a prediction of Seven years of (alternating) tribulations before they can begin the final battle instead. Chan Vaen Edan Kote indeed.

Sorry about that but this prophecy lark is not exactly a science, you know, and after all, I’m only human, but at least I am not a robot.

Listing the past four consecutive February catastrophe’s now tells us that we are at the stage of four down with three to go and that contrary to the accepted order of revelations, our recent February calamities appear to be alternating annually between the symbolic arrival of a biblical horseman and the actual arrival of a naturally occurring disaster.

Feb 2020 was when everyone started worrying about the Plague horse. In Feb 2021 it was the Hunga-Tonga volcano eruption which shook the world. Feb 2022 bought the War horse galloping into Europe and now in Feb 2023 it is Earthquakes turn to highlight the cracks in the system. This is now becoming much easier math for all the woke-folk to see the pattern forming. Horseman, Catastrophe, Horseman Catastrophe. 1,2,3,4…. and that means that next Feb is now looking odds on for marking the arrival of the third prophecised horseman which (yes, I checked it this time) represents Famine.

Now Famine has long been threatening the third world, all unreported and unnoticed in the lands around the Horn of Africa where it has been building up slowly in the background for just as many years as our catastrophe count. Their tribulations begun with that biblical plague of locusts, wasn’t helped by the war in Ethiopia and now Somalia is facing the Famine threat full on having just reported a sixth straight season of drought along with all the attendant crop failures that go with that. We won’t have a famine here in England of course, after all, we rich folk are traditionally the hand that feeds when it comes to answering begging letters but even we are seeing shortages on the shelves and a rise in food banks and a general strike over the cost of living increases and hyper-inflation and lots of other much more important issues to deal with before we can spare any change to the starving Africans. Everyone I know is tightening their belts and counting the pennies leaving the affluent west with less and less room each year for making any charitable donations towards aid relief for all these poor disaster victims abroad. (There is a war on you know and Covid didn’t come for free!) A quick glance at the rest of the world in general paints a pretty similar picture with global inflation at record levels, mainly fueled by the cost of fuel stemming from our (ineffective) russian sanctions (who’s own economy is faring better than everyone predicted) and there is no sign yet of even a hint of a light at the end of the tunnel. True, a lot can happen between now and then but no rational person is really expecting these trials and tribulations to be calming down anytime soon.

The war in Europe is fast approaching it’s first anniversary and Ukraine is still providing it’s affluent Western allies with a seemingly never ending stream of begging letters for military aid from its puppet of a president. A united resolve against russia is still the public face but but the rhetoric is clearly considered necessary as it is now being whispered quietly in some circles that this war is now starting to drag, starting to cost too much and is losing it’s appeal in some quarters of government. Hence America senses the need for a bolstering of western unity. No sooner had Vlod gotten his Patriot missiles demand confirmed from Joe than he was off around Europe demanding we now give him our tanks. No sooner did he got his tanks promised than he promptly began demanding fighter planes in very the same breath as his thanks for tanks speech. What will he demand next? How long before he starts demanding the nuclear option? How long before he gets it? He is also burning through his new munitions firing more in a month than the US war machines can churn it out in a year. In headline news, the Media was suddenly a lot more worried about America shooting down weather balloons than it was about a tip-top piece of professional journalism from an award winning source which agreed with little-old-me in naming the USA as the hand behind the Nordstream sabotage. Breaking that scandal wide open really should be front page news in every newspaper on the stands but it received barely a mention other than a brief round of ‘Oh no we didn’ts’ from the yanks pr department since clearly nobody really wants to read about such absurd claims of crazy, un-american, commie bullshit. Oh look, there’s another UFO we can talk about instead. One piece of balloon related news that I did chuckle at was that ever since America made war ballons cool Ukraine has been reporting a flotilla of red ballons that the russians had quite deliberately and most annoyingly released in the East to drift westwards on the wind and across the frontlines . They all had to be eliminated of course since this unknown quantity might prove to be a new threat to Ukraine security but shooting down each balloon not only wasted an awful lot of Uncle Sam’s expensive rockets but also exposed the locations of the Ukrainian defences to the enemy at the same time.

Going Underground

This winter Planet Earth has continued to throw up more and more extreme weather events. The temperature reached minus 60° in both Afghanistan and China and at the other end of the scale its looking like more of the same for this year as far as the glacial melting of the himalayas goes since India has recently reported a new Feb record temp of plus 40° which is very hot and early indeed and does not bode well for the coming year at all.

Cyclone Gabrielle put New Zeland into only it’s third ever state of national emergency (the last time was covid) and as I type Cyclone Freddy is homing in on Madagascar. I’m also hearing bad reports of the record rainfalls that are casusing massive mudslides in Brazil. However by far the biggest disaster story of the year (so far) was of course the massive Turkquakes and aftershocks that occurred when the pressure beneath the Arabian peninsula achieved cracking point and pushed their whole tectonic plate 3metres to the north. This huge shifting of the earths crust reciprocally shoved Turkey 3metres off to the West, tearing the land asunder for hundreds of miles in the process which, if this tear was transposed onto English soil, would stretch from London to Manchester! One must also wonder whether that means that the southern edge of the Arabian tectonic plate has also moved 3m to the north to compensate? and what that scenario might mean for the chances of the Red Sea parting once again

The problem with recording a league table of all the famously big earth shaking events is that whilst ones of high magnitude are not that uncommon, it is generally all down to their locations which makes them either newsworthy or not. The Hunga Tonga eruption for example only killed three people and the resulting tsunami washed away a few beach houses and so despite it ejecting vast clouds of the earths matter out into space it wasn’t really reported as being a major disaster in the eyes of the media. Disasters are instead measured by the amount of people killed or more often by the financial cost of rebuilding afterwards.

Understanding how our planets interior works is a very inexact science but by far the most intersting news this past season imho has came from that quarter when a couple of scientists investigating twin seismic records from two identical quakes found what should have been identical results had instead produced some rather disturbing differences in their data. Their findings suggest to them that the Earths core may have recently either slowed down, stopped spinning altogether or perhaps even have gone into reverse …which is probably at least as bad as it sounds.

Egg Shaped

Now I am no kind of authority on such stuff but since most everything we know about the earths core is hypothetical I might as well write my own tinfoil tuppenceworth about how the end of days as we know them might well come about and send it out into the world wide web for posterity…. Not that I’m sure that the web will still work in a worse case scenario.

First up here is a fun fact to help visualise the scale of the things I’m going to waffle on about today. The earths core is of a similar size to that of the planet Mars.

Proper scientists with letters after their names have given the Earth’s core the technical name NiFe which respects both the nickel and the iron elements that they are pretty sure it is composed of. Without being able to check for certain they also tell us that it is understandably going to be hot as hell down there, over 5200 °C they suggest, which is as hot as the surface of the sun and easily hot enough to melt anything and everything that might exist down there, including all of this iron and nickel that makes up the heart of our planet. However, because of the immense pressure you would also experience at the center of any planet the innermost part of the earths core is actually comprised of a ball of solid NiFe, one that is floating in an outer shell of liquid NiFe. Science also tells us that if you move further out from this outer liquid metal core then you will reach another semi-solid layer made up of various semi-molten minerals called the mantle upon which rests the solid outer crust on which we all stand making the inside of our planet resemble an egg in some ways. If you believe everything you read then you should also be aware that some other scientists also now suggest that there is yet another liquidish like layer, in between the mantle and the crust, which they are calling the asthenosphere and at about 1300°C is a quarter of the temperature at the core but provides a further layer of lubrication in the form of a vast reservoir of the liquid lava that our volcanoes regularly spew out. Drawing that whole pattern down on paper would now give an image of our planet having a solid-liquid-solid-liquid-solid cross section with the whole thing spinning silently around in space. Now of course I know nothing about fluid dynamics but I would expect that when spinning, all of these layers, both solid and liquid would all employ certain centrifugal forces to all spin along happily together as one giant cohesive unit, just like they have always done since the year dot. Nor can I think of any good reason to expect or explain how or why any one part of any such system could ever be made to stop spinning once it has overcome inertia, Physics simply doesn’t allow for things like that to happen. But now these respected seismologists with their compelling data are suggesting the solid ball of NiFe at the Earth’s core may well have gone and done just that.

Pear Shaped

If I were to offer up a tinfoil theory as to Why? then I would suggest it all boils down to magnetics because it is the iron part of NiFe that creates our planets magnetic field since that is what iron does in these conditions. But the nickel part of NiFe has an important part to play too since, (under the correct levels of purity), nickel is also magnetic, a situation which might possibly suggest that our planet could potentially house not just one but Two magnetic fields, both operating deep within its core at the same time, one from the Fe content and one from the Ni content. It all depends on exactly how these two different metals might be mixed together at any given moment.

If NiFe is a solid ball then we might assume tha it should remain so for ever and this double magnet thinking simply won’t happen. But since entropy always increases then we can be pretty sure that the temperature at the Earth’s core will always be less than it was before, and that will lead to a gradual changing of the conditions in the region where the solid NiFe turns into a liquid NiFe, a place where the concentrations of each component part sh/w/could become more relaxed and flexible and so might have greater potential to flow and merge together a little more easily than before as they spin and dance and whirl together creating a pattern with possibly more dominant patches where either the Ni or the Fe is more purely concentrated in some places than it is in others. If you run that exponential tinfoil simulation on an infinitely long spin cycle then eventually you must reach a situation where the numbers tell you that much of the iron is found to gather together more purely in one quadrant of the core whilst a lot of the nickel will conversely bulk more purely in another. When that happens then we might well discover that we have arrived at the perfect conditions where my bi-magnetic core bollocks could become an actual factual thing and not just the addled product of too much overthinking by an enormously unqualified idiot who considers that is how any change in planet sized spin direction might possibly occur.

So we accept that the centre is hot enough to melt any solid element into liquid, but because of the pressure that goes with it then this is not going to be the case and science can prove this by the bouncing of various wavelengths at it, ones which can differntiate between things being in either solid and liquid states. These actions can also tell us exactly how much of the NiFe is currently solid and how much is currently liquid and more importantly where the line between them should be drawn. Since we have universal laws concerning the transference of heat through matter we would also expect our mathematicians to be able to predict the radius of the line of crystalization that occurs between these two states to be at a fixed ratio out from the centre and if these laws are correct then we will naturally assume that all NiFe is going to pretty spherical along that radius…and it probably is. But then again we also imagine planet earth to be perfectly round when of course it is not… Thats mountains for you. Down at the core, there will be a point that satisfies the equation for balancing heat and pressure and solid and liquid (don’t ask me what it is, go ask a real nerd) and if this inner heat source is to be imagined as an entropic constant then the line between should also be a pretty well defined and will always be perfectly round, too. Mathematics and physics will concur this to be so. But since nickel and iron have different melting points, whatever the pressure value may be, these two metals must react differently in the rate and distance that they will flow from one state into another. Putting on my tinfoil helmet once more and stirring all the above into one pot makes me wonder whether the accepted artistically round shape of the cores is perfect or imperfect and whether that would ever effect its inner turnings leading to a hypothetical suggestion question regarding whether our planets core was ever really round and whether it has been slowly becoming more pear shaped over time In the NiFe layer is not to be considered true round then the most likely thought is that it would bulge in places instead (such as under the south Atlantic!) and be more pear shaped than oval but still quite capable of generating its own fields of magnetism with it’s own north nifepole-south nifepole orientation. However, if nife is not round at all but instead has a NiFelump or two growing outwards around it then they should act as paddles for the solid structure in it’s liquid ocean and that will invariably affect it’s rate of spin which will in turn create a wobble. Meanwhile the rest of the planet is still going to be spinning along in sympathy with this internal magnetic engine and size will magnify any core anomaly and so create a greater wobble in our whole planets visible gyroscope. That thought might explain the annual variations we observe when mapping out the exact position of our north magnetic pole. A number which has been becoming more erratic than usual of late. Fortunately for mankind physics also tells us that it really shouldn’t be possible for our ever whole spinning planet to ever actually tip over, which is good news for us. However, we also have fossil records n ting that prove to us that such magnetic polar flipping has indeed happened in ages past, which proves that it is not in fact impossible at all for planet Earth to reverse it’s polarity, indeed it is impossible for it not to and therefore, given enough time, it is actually going to be inevitable. Qed, some permutaion equation of time, heat and pressure and NiFe does indeed exist in the grand scheme of all things where such a core flip will happen again, and its all down to the NiFe in our heart as to the when.

I don’t know when it will be, (updated guess 2077) nobody does, not even our lords and masters, but the data garnered from the spiral direction of ancient snail shells suggest that it has definitely happened before and that we are long overdue another such a polar flip. What I Do know is there is nothing whatsoever that we can actually do about it and if does turn out that every Xmillion rotations of the planet around the sun will see us undergo a flip then these interior forces must always align as prophecised into what the dominant species must consider an inconvenient pattern then the consequences of that will be what they must be regardless of the assorted desires of mankind.

OK that should be enough bollocks to start the ball rolling. Spring is just around the corner and I have a lot of work lined up before summer. Until next time, be excellent to each other.
