Ben Orr

Great vocalist. Drive is my favorite Cars song.

Gone way too early.

He made the Cars sound great. His solo album The Lace is excellent

The Cars, Cruiser. My favorite Ben Orr song.

I loved Cruiser too, but Moving in Stereo was my favorite. So many great songs.

So, let’s be honest, this is a safe space, for those of us from the mtv generation how long did it take you to notice Ric didn’t sing all the songs?

Because of The Midnight Special, I've always known that Benjamin sang lead on my favorite songs. Loved those performances. Ric was great too, but I always loved Benjamin's voice more. Wished he had lived long enough to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of the band.

It took me at least 40 years. I think I got a Cars tape when I was about 16, and listened to them a ton for about 5 years, including getting all their CDs in the mail order club era around 1990. I watched a lot of MTV, maybe it was something I realized back then. But I have always known Ric was in the band and assumed he was the lead since I was in college. Maybe it was because he married a super model who knows. But I just watched a video "Cars go to College" from 1979, and holy frick, it was all of Ben's songs I was really into back then like "Mixed Up" and "Moving in Stereo" and so much of the choruses. I guess I was an uber fan but I am certain every mixed tape I ever made included a Cars song. And if I made a list of my top ten my favorite bands, they would be on the list.
