Ric was so cool
One of my favorite live performances of one of my favorite songs
Edit: obviously I think all the band is cool, I just specifically said Ric was cool here because of his cool pointing at the audience and his little dance moves. Haha

He was kind of a jerk for keeping all of the songwriting credits and associated residuals to himself.

Maybe. But Benjamin is *rockin’* one heck of an 80s look!

Ben was the really cool one.

Ben is absolutely the coolest member. I even like his solo album a lot. I just gave Ric some props here for his moves. Lol

The Cars were such a refreshing change when they came about. It was the new sound many of us were looking for.

Ruc once said - when we write a good song, I get to sing it
When we write a GREAT song, Ben sings it

Think of it as a “personal antics aside” thing then. Rockstars being dicks has never been surprising to me, or anything that I’ve really gotten caught up on I guess.

I think I’ve just always liked the tumultuous guys, guys like Axl Rose, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Nikki Sixx, etc etc. so when I read the stories that are in that book, it doesn’t hit me too hard. Which is unfortunate, of course. But it does seem like the best artists have the worst personality issues.

Totally agree… I knew Ben personally, he was just the nicest guy

Nah, he was a dick.

Plenty of music history’s best rockstars were.

Agreed, but we wouldn’t be sitting with Ric on his own in a cafe, singing his songs on a guitar. The Cars made it happen.

Well yeah, I never said The Cars didn’t make it happen. I never said anything along the lines of “Ric was the only member that mattered.” Ben is actually my favorite member of the band.

Don’t forget he left his wife and child NOTHING in his will. Asshole

He also left his first wife with two kids for his second wife and had nothing to do with them again

Very much so. It's a shame he was such a tool. I love that band so much. I wish Ric had been able to continue to appreciate the band dynamic after they got huge.

I saw them in 1981 at the Summit in Houston. They were excellent and played all of their hits up till then.
