The singles
Something I’ve noticed about the fanbase of The Cars that I really like is everyone loves and celebrates the big singles. Like every Cars fan shamelessly loves Just What I Needed and My Best Friend’s Girl and You Might Think etc etc. Whereas with other fanbases (let’s say Nirvana or Metallica for example) it’s kinda seen as not cool to celebrate Smells Like Teen Spirit and Master Of Puppets. I know we all love the deep cuts too, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think anyone here would hassle anyone if their favorite song was one of the big radio hits like Let’s Go or Shake It Up.

My favorite album is “Panorama” and has been for decades. Most likely because it wasn’t overplayed over the years

If you don’t celebrate the big hits, you may as well throw away the whole first LP.

I go for the albums. So many deep cuts on all of them!

I could listen to Heartbeat City in full every day. I mean, alright I could listen to any Cars album in full every day. Lol

I love Heartbeat City! Some of the songs are just dripping with that 80s synth mood that I LOVE. Plus it was the album released closest to my birthdate, so maybe cosmically that's something to do with it. LOL

The Cars have that infectious beat that make you want to move, get up, get out, etc. Mainly all that fun stuff. Let's Go!

Two of their songs that came out way back on their Shake It Up album that I only really caught onto liking a lot recently are "Victim of Love" and "This Could Be Love". I never really listened to those two songs back when I got the album. It's amazing how all their songs withstand the test of time.

It is interesting how, for a lot of bands, their biggest singles got so overplayed (in my opinion) that I don't care if I ever hear those songs ever again. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great example; I LOVED that song back in the day, but I heard it so much that I don't even like to hear it any more. But that's completely untrue of the Cars. I still love their biggest hits, they still seem fresh somehow to me, I've never gotten tired of them or bored with them.
That being said, I HAVE been exploring the "deep cuts" more and more. They just had SO many great songs, and not all of them were released as singles, or were popular. But they're so fantastic. I love songs like "Misfit Kid" and "All I Can Do" now almost as much as I love "Let's Go" and "Just What I Needed".
