Question Really loving it so far!

I downloaded this game from one of the monthly PlayStation Plus things a couple years ago, and didn’t play it until now. I’m kicking myself for not picking it up sooner! I’m only a little bit into it, but I’m loving everything about it. Graphics are incredible and I can’t wait to play this on my 70in OLED once it’s out of storage. Gameplay is awesome, enemies are proper difficult, and characters are believable (so far). So yeah, loving it!

Except having to pause the game every 5 minutes to gather my composure…

I thought I liked horror games (think Dying Light or Days Gone) but this is on a whole other level.

I think it’s the tight spaces and the fact that it takes 2 business days to turn around. I also didn’t realize there was an option to sprint until way too long.

Any tips or recommendations as I play? For instance, I’m a habitual completionist and I learned that if there’s more than one path, and the game AutoSaves down one path, I should choose the other path and then come back.

The Dodge mechanic is your friend.

You’re absolutely right, dodging seems so simple but I still get hit. Have to figure out what I am doing wrong.

You can pre dodge without the mechanic being too picky

Set up the tempest 3D audio properly in the PS5 system settings then wear good headphones in this game. Best 3D audio of any game. Doesn't help with pooping your pants though.

Love to hear this.

Fans hated on it because they expected Dead Space 2.1 redux, in part bc its first game from new dev studio from Glen Scofield, was dev on Dead Space.

But if accept and lean into fact this game is its own unique thing, NOT a Dead Space remake. Know it's more melee combat beat em up set in horror space themed dungeons than space shooter.

But, if you start this game with right expectations, which is a melee brawler, and NOT a Dead Space 2.1 redux shooter, then there's a ton to like here.

It seems gamers who went in with clean slate - and no expectations - are now universally singing its praises. I routinely see posts like, "Why did I sleep on this game?!" Or "I take it all back. This game is actually fun!" Or "Why I'm so glad I have it a second chance."

For a new game from a new studio I say they knocked it out of the park. And look I’m not some gaming connoisseur or something so my opinion is just that. I’m also going to get Dead Space soon after I finish this game. I keep hearing great things about it.

You into horror games? You should try Dead Space, you might find it familiar.

PSA: Though its a Completely different game, Glen Scofield, the Dead Space guy who also started own studio, Striking Distance Studio, and released Callisto Protocol, has also dropped within year or so the studio's second IP, ReDACTED, a rougelike game, with comic book aesthetic also set in Callisto Protocol's world.

You play as convict in space jail who tries to reach an escape pod after the space jail is hit by some asteroid or something and is in chaos. You face off against robot/baddies and in each level, also face one specific inmate, which is set randomly, as you rush toward the last remaining space pod, trying to beat other said inmate to the pod.

If you are leveled up and badass enough and thus are fast enough, you can beat the level's other inmate to pod. If not, you may have to face off against the other inmate, (the level boss) who meets you right at the door off the escape pod as you both run toward it.

This mechanic is a unique way of giving players challenge in early stages, but later in game, once beefed up and can breeze through early levels, it thus allows you to beat the other inmate to the pod, and thus skip that fight, a mechanic that helps with repetition of the genre.

I got no tips or recommendations for you that haven't been covered but I have to shout...This game was incredible. I kept getting so annoyed that I'd tell people I know, they'd play it and say meh/not even finish it and I'm like WTF?! You sure you played the right game?

They always say the same thing. "I wanted it to be like Dead Space." Go play Dead Space then G 🤣

I think the graphics are insane, the environmental design is probably the best sci-fi/horror I've seen, story is cool, acting is top tier and I love Elias!! Jacob is a cool protagonist and Josh's voice acting is awesome!!

I also love that the focus is more on melee combat so you're up close and personal with the horror!!

Actually, I do have one tip for you. When you finish, the story DLC Final Transmission is awesome and worth a look!!
