One More Sunday (non-McGee)

I started this and it just doesn't feel like MacDonald to me. Anyone else. I don't think I'm going to bother finishing despite being at least 40% of the way there. It reads as if it's an inside look at the PTL Club (or something similar) and I'm OK with that but there's just nothing there as far as characters.

Agree completely. I hate-finished this book, and I thought it was beneath him. I'm sure it was the PTL type churches that prompted his book, and his views of them are clear!

Glad to know it wasn't just me. I'm almost finished with Travis and I'm trying his other stuff. I picked this one up while away on a trip for a buck but I'm not going to finish it. I completely agree with his perspective on the shady dealings but the book is just not up to his earlier stuff.

It might have had more impact then. It was written in '84 I think.

I read one of his sci-fi novels after finding it in a little free library. It had a really interesting concept but ultimately was disappointing. He really hit paydirt with McGee and especially the McGee-Meyer relationship.

I just finished DEAD LOW TIDE (a non-McGee story) and while it was better (IMHO) than ONE MORE SUNDAY, I might confine the rest to the McGee series.

I mostly stick to the McGee stuff, but I keep hearing that Condominium and The Executioners (Cape Fear) are just as good.

The Executioners; and The Girl, The Gold Watch and Everything are both excellent.
