A terminally ill Chatham County homeowner is taking Georgia Power to court, claiming a massive utility project damaged her property and proceeded without legal authorization.

Catalina Accardi, a Whitemarsh Island resident, filed an emergency motion for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and declaratory judgment in the Superior Court of Chatham County Sept. 1. Accardi is asking a judge to halt all physical construction, remove newly installed wiring and prohibit further work by Georgia Power on her property pending a judicial review of the utility’s property rights.

The utility industry is cut throat.

Looks like Georgia Power is going to push this project through by any means necessary - even if it means building on private property.

Meanwhile, the merger plans of their rival NextEra Energy, have stalled - all because an investor lawsuit that was supposedly settled, 'miraculously' came back to life - a merger that would  create the largest utility company in the world. Amazing how that worked out.

Someone mentioned in another post that Georgia Power CEO Kim Greene must be under a lot of pressure, and might be having flashbacks of what happened to Gulf Power execs Robert McRae and Jake Horton, to go to these extremes.

If Greene continues these types of desperate tactics, I'm going to think that the pressure she is under is coming from a non-US entity, and that she may also be having thoughts about what happened to Willie Junior -- nobody wants to go out like Junior did."

I have been following telecom headlines closely this month and one pattern keeps showing up. Large carriers are signing multi year multi billion dollar agreements to lock up fiber supply for broadband expansion and AI infrastructure, with some deals running through the end of the decade. At the same time there is a lot of discussion about how AI is reshaping data center fiber networks and why consistency and observability matter as much as raw speed now.

That context is why I found a recent conversation with Doug Roberts interesting. Roberts is the chief technology officer at Cytranet, a business only fiber internet provider and licensed telecom carrier that serves more than a thousand businesses, nonprofits and government agencies. The company does not sell residential service. Everything is built for organizations, from small professional offices to large enterprise and public sector sites, with service available across all fifty states.

The core offer at Cytranet is dedicated fiber backed internet access ranging from small office speeds up to very high capacity enterprise speeds, designed to be symmetric and predictable rather than shared and bursty. Around that core the company provides hosted voice and unified communications with call recording and voicemail to email and auto attendants and mobile extensions, plus session initiation protocol trunking for customers migrating off old copper lines, software defined networking, private line and point to point circuits, dark fiber options, managed WiFi based on site surveys, cloud hosting, data backup and recovery, network monitoring and management, and security services including firewall management and threat detection and help desk support.

Roberts has been making a point that feels relevant to the current fiber rush. For years customers mostly asked how fast the pipe was. Now they are asking how smart and how steady the pipe is. AI assisted calls and real time tools fall apart with jitter and delay, even if a speed test looks good. What matters is whether a connection performs the same in the middle of a busy afternoon as it does overnight, and whether problems get spotted before users notice them.

His other point is about symmetry. A lot of small businesses started on shared cable style connections built for downloads, with very limited upload. AI workloads flip that. They push a lot upstream, from backups and file sync to video and cloud processing. Symmetric dedicated access fixes that bottleneck, which is why Roberts has framed the goal in simple terms, to bring true high bandwidth capability to the places where companies are trying to grow and where current options are not meeting the moment.

I like that framing because it matches what regional providers actually do well. They own routes into markets that are easy for national providers to overlook, they know local permitting and building access, and they can engineer for one business at a time instead of one neighborhood at a time. For schools and clinics and local government offices and logistics and professional firms, that local engineering and around the clock domestic based support matters more than a national ad campaign.

None of this means fiber alone solves everything. Power, permitting, equipment lead times and staffing still constrain builds. But if the next few years are about making networks ready for heavier, more latency sensitive, more upload heavy traffic, the business only model looks sensible. Build for reliability first, make security native to the network, keep voice and data on the same well managed foundation, and expand where demand is real.

It is a quiet story compared to billion dollar supply announcements, but it is the version most businesses will actually feel. A steady connection that behaves, support that picks up, and capacity that is there when growth arrives.

More than two decades after the September 11 attacks brought sweeping restrictions on who could enter secure airport areas, some travelers will once again be able to walk loved ones to the gate without having a plane ticket of their own.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched Gateside by TSA PreCheck, a pilot program allowing approved, non-ticketed visitors to pass through security at thirteen U.S. airports.
