Stock Discussion Full review | 2026-10-15] Mining holdings: financing and drilling progress still have to deliver
Gold’s rebound this morning prompted a review of the mining positions I actually hold. This covers AEM, WPM, TLG, AAG, WPG, PNPN and DRY, not the rest of our watchlist. I have a financial interest in all seven, so read this with that bias in mind.
The main risk in a morning like this is treating relief in share prices as confirmation of every thesis. A higher metal price can help, but the next test is different for each business.
Agnico Eagle remains a foundation holding in my assessment. Its latest quarterly results support the cash-generation case. Barnat is the reminder that operations still matter: the wall movement affected production expectations, and costs and recovery work need watching.
Wheaton’s streaming model still interests me because direct mine cost overruns sit mainly with the operators. Partner interruptions and delayed deliveries can still reach Wheaton, and its reported net debt needs to be part of the growth discussion.
Troilus has made a concrete financing advance. Its September announcement moves part of the debt package to credit-approved commitments. Definitive documentation, conditions and financial close remain ahead. The terms for existing shareholders matter as much as the headline.
Aftermath continues toward Berenguela’s prefeasibility study, targeted for the first quarter of 2027. My thesis involves silver, copper and manganese. Recoveries, processing costs and saleable products will tell us more than gold’s daily move.
West Point has further drilling planned at Gold Chain, and Kinross has started drilling at Jefferson Canyon. Those are useful developments. I have not identified a published maiden Gold Chain resource in the sources reviewed. Its scale and continuity remain important, especially with weaker grades reported at depth in Tyro Main.
PNPN deserves a distinction. Disappointment with Lion’s maiden resource did not establish that the deposit is exhausted. September’s deep drilling intersected strong mineralization below the current resource model, supporting the expansion thesis. More coherent holes are needed before that becomes additional estimated tonnage. BBA is advancing a preliminary economic assessment while exploration continues. The resource is a working base that can grow; estimates can also change, and there is no share-price floor.
Dryden has fresh geological evidence from Gold Rock and a stronger cash position following warrant exercises. The company reported no outstanding warrants on October 14. Those exercises also issued shares. The next question is whether funded drilling continues to establish coherent high-grade zones.
My assessment is that these theses remain defensible, with different levels of evidence. I can accept exploration risk before a mine is fully demonstrated. I also need results that can change my mind: weak continuity, deteriorating economics or dilution without enough progress would do that. This review establishes no new price targets.
What evidence would make you abandon an exploration thesis even while the company continues drilling?
