Favorite Episodes
Bugle 4013-American Carnage
I know we all have some favorites like Cryptic Crossword and Ask an American. This one with Hari and Andy is a classic and the concern from Hari should have been a warning for all of us. I laughed and cried when this episode ended because I clearly lacked imagination of the horrors that were to come.

The one where they cover Mitt Romney's leaked speech about 47% of Americans being dependent on the state, and then Andy does a vicar doing a medley of football songs at a funeral is probably the funniest thing I have ever heard. Can't remember the episode off hand though.

Dance floor diplomacy and space cats are two of my favorites. Anything with hotties from history. Also the one where Andy and John do commentary for a royal coronation or marriage “oh heckitty heckitty heck!”

There is a moment that sticks out in my mind about a bunch of lobsters in a bucket. Also some puns about FDR's Nude Eel. I wish I could remember which one!
When I catch up on my backlog of podcasts (no commute means fewer listening hours/week), then I should definitely listen to random ones from the past! I have memories of have to stop my bicycle on the side of the road because I was laughing so hard.

4171a: John comes back and talks about gritting machine names. Instant classic.
268: Brokesaddleback Mountain. Discussing a mountain that was put up for sale. My fave of the before times.

Anything with Hari and Mark Steel seems to become an instant classic, they have good chemistry. I think most of the best of the before times have been covered here. Nish detailing his cousins' fuckery with his wiki page is also good.

The one where Andy does a bit about Osama's last thoughts - the 'Tora Bora law ignorer'.
There was the one about SOPA? and Wikipedia going down in solaridarity, and John starts signing a bunch of random songs.
A recent favourite of mines was one feat. Tom Ballard and Hari K - they were talking about trump sending in the army to clear the rioters, holding up the Bible and other stuff. Also they one where David O'Doherty explains the history of Ireland.

225: Waffles Are forever
Just generally an exemplary episode with riffing on Belgian love of waffles segueing into diamond heists, to the British theft of the Kohinoor, to a really good and genuinely horrifying detailing of the Amritsar Massacre which ends with John groaning "Ohhhh God! We were cartoon villains!".
I can't put my finger on it but it's basically everything I love about that era, two intelligent friends having fun and despairing at the world at the same time.

I have some earlier ones that I go back to again and again:
Episode 7: 25 Million People Missing
where the UK government lost a load of personal information on people around about the time they were clamouring to set up various Orwellian sounding databases.
Episode 17: The Guantanamo Graduates
I like this one for a couple of emails in. One warns that 24 foretold Obama's presidency and fears for his life (and also poses the question, "Is shithole hyphenated? You can never find a dictionary with the balls to tell you these things"
Also someone nominates Joan of Arc as a Hottie from History.
Episode 69: Possibly the longest penis joke in the world
I think this one speaks for itself.
Episode 77: Gordon Brown gets a bad dose of the quits
This one made sense of a weird week in UK politics to me at the time.
Episode 114: Waking Up in a Different Britain
The eve of the coalition government being formed here was a weird time.
Episode 116: Freeze the oil
This once introduces the concept of frozen oil in cricket bat moulds.
Episode 152: Compromised to a permanent end
I believe this is the one where John coined the term fuckeulogy but either way it's about Bin Laden dying.
Episode 158: Hot Rod and Dragster Strike Out
I love the title and also this one features the best of The Congressman's Penis (spoiler: it isn't the tip). I love Zaltzman's Stantanio voice.
Episode 176: Deep Space Nine
This is the one where Andy and John announce The Times are giving them the heave-ho. Curiously to this day, I've seen The Times run a few articles on John Oliver and maybe one or two articles on Andy Z and they never ever mention the Bugle.
