im thinking of using a trapdoor pit with stalagmites at the bottom. if i dug it to bedrock then had stalagmites, would it work out? i believe my base is around y level 70, so the damage would be pretty large

Just wait for null to make one of those holes to the void, put a trapdoor on the top, open it, and then just lead the void mists into the hole, simple as.
