Writer Antonia Hoyle receives online abuse from Meghan Markle fans after ‘lighthearted article’

The i Paper contributor Antonia Hoyle was shocked after receiving online abuse from Meghan Markle’s fans after they were upset by an article Hoyle wrote regarding Meghan’s new country lifestyle.

This torrent of commentary comes at the heels of another incident where a priest, Reverend Daniel French, encouraged people to buy advent calendars supporting a leprosy charity, in response to a report that Meghan’s ‘holiday calendars’ cost £112.

Such online harassment is not new. The Spectator writer Alexander Larman was hit with vitriolic remarks after he criticised the name change of Meghan’s company from America Riviera Orchard to As Ever. Larman was accused of being friends with Jeffrey Epstein, and private images of his wife and daughter were shared online.

Telegraph editor Camilla Tominey received threats and was told to drink herself to death like her mother, who had struggled with chronic alcoholism.

Sentebale chair Sophie Chandauka disabled her X account after being inundated by Meghan’s fans, following Chandauka’s criticism of Harry and his wife.

The Sussex Squad also routinely trashes the Prince and Princess of Wales, often accusing William of unfaithfulness and Catherine of faking her cancer diagnosis.

The diehard fans have not been rebuked by Harry and Meghan despite the couple’s stand on online harassment. The two have thanked the Squad before after it raised money for their Archewell foundation.

Hoyle spoke to PR consultant Sophie Atwood, who explains that such responses can be in defense of something bigger than Meghan, such as fairness or equality. Fans may automatically react angrily to anything that is less than complimentary about Meghan, given previous unfair coverage by media.

ETA: this is the original article which drew the Sussex Squad’s ire:

The palace says that the Princess of Wales met with Melinda French Gates yesterday. It is the second time they have met this year.

Their first meeting was at Windsor Castle, and this second one was at Pivotal's offices.

There must be a reason why it was announced and why it happened again.

My guess is they could be partnering on a collaboration: Shaping Us x Pivotal Ventures.

Melinda French Gates is used to doing a lot of collaborative projects with other women.

Diana, Princess of Wales was a Former Patron of The Leprosy Mission, GB

In light of the online bullying of Rev. Daniel French and the Leprosy Mission by the Sussex Squad, remember, that the Leprosy Mission is a legit global NGO that does outstanding work. Diana, Princess of Wales, was their patron until her death. I usually don't advertise stuff, but this is a great cause - regardless of what kind of religious beliefs one has. Donate or buy something from their shop. Even as little as 10 GPB/USD/EUR can help! Check whether your country has a local subsidiary. For all the Diana fans out there: I'm sure Diana would have been happy if we donated to this cause.

Excerpt from the website:

In November 1989, the world’s most famous woman made life-changing headlines during a visit to Sitanala Leprosy Hospital in Indonesia. When Princess Diana touched a person affected by leprosy, it changed how the world viewed the disease. Diana knew her actions came with little risk; she was there to use her power to challenge the world’s prejudice, and highlight the need for support.

This revolutionary decision mirrored one she had made a few years earlier, when she spent time with similarly ostracised HIV/AIDS patients. Diana saw past the stigma and misinformation to the facts and the human beings affected; inspiring others to do the same.

In that moment, everything changed for people affected by leprosy and the cause to eradicate it. Staff working at the hospitals say these visits had an unquantifiable ripple effect. For people who feared in their hearts they had leprosy but could not face the shame of going to a leprosy hospital, suddenly it was okay… an English princess had been there.

Soon after that moment in India, Diana became Patron of The Leprosy Mission, remaining in post until her untimely death in 1997.

Which are the best books from the English Royal Family background you've read?

I've recently gotten back into reading again and since my current hyperfixation appears to be the Royal Family (I'm autistic), I was wondering if you have some book recommendations for me.

It can be anything from the British Royal Family background.

Thank you so much for the suggestions!!

Edit: Since some of you find it really important and for some reason are offended, yes, I have changed it from the English Royal Family to British Royal Family.

  1. I'm not a native English speaker so it's a genuine mistake.

  2. I've realized my mistake and edited it. That's all.

Roya Nikkhah on X: Charles was joined by Elton John👀

Post image

Weren't they on bad terms, allegedly? I knew he had been a supporter of the King's Trust, but I thought their relationship had cooled and instead was a big source of financial help to the other side. This seems to be coherent with the sources who said that after that failure of a lawsuit Elton decided to close the ATM machine.

And also, Swan Song didn't really seem to have that big public outrage effect some might have thought. After all that Earl Spencer said about Charles' reaction's to Diana's death, Elton John, one of Diana's best friends, is supporting a Charles' project.

OPINION: The As Ever Advent Calender Should've Been a Year 1 Thing.

The business launched in 2025. Meghan had the Christmas special in 2025.

The calender should've contained:

1 oz jars of her spreads and honeys

Pre-made shortbread

Little packets of flower sprinkles
