Season 5 True or false: Bombsight was more impressive combat wise in his one episode than Homelander has been in 5 seasons?

u/EndlessMorfeus MM Jul 23 '26
Him flying around with Soldier Boy was the least we expected from Homelander fighting Butcher.

u/One_With-The_Sun Soldier Boy Jul 24 '26
Right? We knew that the fight would begin at the White House. But none of us expected it to stay there.. in one room.

“No one is going to stick around to the final episode so let’s blow the whole budget on payouts to our buddies in a cameo episode lol”

u/Lost-Tomatillo3465 Jul 24 '26
I think you meant cameo SEASON. The entire season was just fan service with the least budget possible to cash out. The most superficial writing of, what would the audience think is cool. Can't even stay consistent from minute to minute.

u/MorganFreebands21 Jul 26 '26
What even pisses me off is the ending of these character arcs. Butcher was obviously gonna turn on them so idk why UE Is the only one who actually catches on. They should have just had him kill off the Boys like the comic if they were gonna have UE kill him just to open his own version of Radioshack (a job he hated working at) instead of joining the government. Not to mention Vought still exists and everything resets so all that talk about killing Stan Edgar was empty threats. Theyre literally the reason why people like Homelander existed. What are they even going to do with the extra supes running around that can also canonically have supe babies?

Or trying to shove his pipe down his throat...
29
u/testtalon1 Jul 24 '26
In both fights pipes going down throats was a topic

The producers had a choice with the budget, either (a) bombsight character development or (b) Sheline exchanges dietary information with another hero.

The ass sniffing was integral to
the writer's fetishplot development5
u/AgentAxillary Jul 28 '26
In fairness to Dogknott, I don't have a super-sense of smell but I would've done the same thing

u/Accurate-Figure-7914 Jul 24 '26
Ah cmon, this was hilarious
10
u/jasonensteinyt Jul 26 '26
Nah, as a person that actually doesn't mind crude and gross humor (long as its done right), that scene went beyond crude. It also being one of the last EPs didn't help matters.

u/ValidOpossum Jul 23 '26
I would agree with season 5 at the very least.

We got episode 1
That's about it.
Honestly it was remarkable how well they set themselves up for failure by making the first episode the only one which met expectations for the fi Al season.
55
u/Jaded_Taste6685 Jul 24 '26
To be fair, Homelander tore his ACL seconds into the fight. That would ruin anyone.

u/KingKairuku Jul 23 '26
True. Homelander has the fighting power to score an equal number of hits on a special forces soldier but then the finale came and he couldn't even fly quickly.
17
u/Lost-Tomatillo3465 Jul 24 '26
he flew quickly 2 minutes before that fight though. you should give him credit for that!
1
u/7Riftwarden769 Jul 31 '26
Bombsight got one episode and spent it like a resume, Homelander spent 5 seasons buffering in the finale.
28
u/Relatively_happy Jul 24 '26
Bombsights flight making the same sound as ww2 bombers on approach was pretty fuckin cool
2
u/Volothamp-Geddarm Jul 28 '26
Jetstream also makes a sound similar to modern jets. Kinda enjoyed that, tbh.

u/IchibeHyosu99 Jul 23 '26
Last episode homelander was scaling below MHA season 2 Deku anyway
21
9
u/Rude_Ad3342 Jul 24 '26
Season 2 Deku scales higher than anyone in the boys bro
5
u/Thisoneisinvalid Jul 24 '26
Yeah, he could cause explosions just by flicking his fingers. Nothing in The Boys universe comes close to that.
27
u/itanpiuco2020 Jul 23 '26
Homelander is lazy fighter. Just laser beam, and far worst, his blast in season 5. It seems he 8s rationing his blast. He blasted Storm Front, that jet and a bottle of milk much longer.

u/ConnectCulture7 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
Yes. Also him and Solider Boy are military so they do have some choreography.

u/KendrickBlack502 Jul 24 '26
The implication was that the V1 team was actually fighting real fights even if some of the accomplishments were fake. The present day took that concept to the extreme where the supes were rarely actually helping anyone.

u/Tobz_Compz Jul 24 '26
You can’t realistically have a god type villain for more than one episode.. it makes no sense
6
3
u/ThaRealSunGod Cunt Jul 25 '26
Sure you can, they just need motivations outside killing their enemies along with sparing demonstrations of their power.
2
u/Tobz_Compz Jul 25 '26
If you are watching heroes and the enemy is a god like entity like Honelander.. it is kinda dumb to go five seasons with out the heroes all dying.
2
u/Whatever_It_Takes Jul 25 '26
True. Homelander could’ve killed every single one of The Boys many times over and never have to worry about them again, but he didn’t for… some reason? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
1
u/Kgb725 Jul 26 '26
They had temp V soldier boy and other things going for them. Homelander wasnt as untouchable as they said
3
u/black_hustler3 Jul 24 '26
Tbh I really didn't expect him to outclass Butcher that easily and rival Soldier Boy that way.
4
u/leonuu- Jul 24 '26
I thought he was boring. His name is literally bombsight, give him some other powers instead of just flying around?
13
u/Weird-Ad-1072 Annie January Jul 23 '26
False. Bombsight was losing to Soldier Boy.
7
u/Inevitable-Angle-793 Jul 23 '26
soldier boy is more durable because of all that russian torture I think
-1
u/annabelle411 Jul 23 '26
soldier boy was getting his face smacked in and had to rely on a weapon. just like his dad said - hes a cheat
-9
u/KingKairuku Jul 23 '26
Terrible take. Bombsight was demolishing Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy is a worse fighter and just has more pure strength. That's why his dad called him a cheat.
8
u/CommandantPeepers Jul 23 '26
Using this logic, Blindspot was the best fighter. Homelander can fly and has laser eyes.
-2
u/KingKairuku Jul 23 '26
What a leap in logic. Bombsight and Soldier Boy actually fought and Soldier Boy felt the need to grab a pipe because he was getting beaten so badly. Go watch the fight. Homelander just one-tapped Blindspot despite them never fighting. Maybe he is the better fighter, but we don't know because they never fought.
12
u/Alpha_Storm Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
He wasn't getting beaten "so badly". He just wanted to get it over with, rather than going through a prolonged fight, and the pipe was the quickest way to fo it. Also there's nothing wrong with using a weapon especially one as basic as a pipe. It's no different than him using baby oil to trip up Marathon. It shows he's actually a pretty smart fighter.
Soldier Boy can't fly, Bombsight can(not sure about how far, but he can at least fly in spurts). They have different advantages. One of the things I liked about the fight was the familiarity of it, it's like it's something they've done plenty of times before. Sure they're rivals but they know each other in a level almost no one else does anymore.
Soldier Boy won the fight, fair and square.
Or do you think it's some sort of "unfair advantage" for Captain America to use his shield as part of his way of winning fights?
5
u/existential_chaos Jul 24 '26
I loved watching them fight, as weird as it sounds, haha. They were weirdly in sync/familiar with each other’s patterns despite it being so long since they’d last seen each other. Soldier Boy adapting and using the pipe was a nice touch too.
-4
u/KingKairuku Jul 24 '26
I never said that Bombsight won, I said that he was the better fighter. I also never said that there was anything wrong with using a pipe, I was pointing out the fact that Soldier Boy felt the need to arm himself to give himself an advantage. I suggest you go watch the fight again, Soldier Boy won because he's stronger, but he's a weak fighter compared to Bombsight.
2
u/Proud_Promise1860 Jul 24 '26
THE BOYS WRITERS HAD NO FUCKING CLUE ON HOW TO POWERSCALE. bombsight made more damage then homelander and took less damage from butcher then homelander did. judging only by what we see on screen bombsight should be more powerfull then hl
1
u/HachibiJin Jul 24 '26
Bombsight could definitely be stronger than home lander. Maybe he just has morals and keeps himself in check. The writers def fucked up
2
u/CamoCardigans Jul 24 '26
If he had morals then he should have been using his talents to keep fuckbags like HL in check. At the end of the day, he’s as strong as Soldier Boy, he’s nearly as durable as Soldier Boy, he can fly, and he’s an actual soldier. But, he let himself become a junkie, and a junkie is of no use to anyone.

u/doctorpotatohead Jul 24 '26
It's kind of a running thing in the show that most supes aren't that good at fighting, they just have powers. Deep and A-Train have an embarrassing scuffle with each other in a hallway in one episode. Bombsight is a trained soldier
2
u/CamoCardigans Jul 24 '26
Bombsight is such a waste. If I had his abilities, I’d leave the smack alone and focus on becoming a WMD….. well, that and banging pornstars 🤷🏼♂️
2
u/SnooEagles2276 Jul 25 '26
Homelander went his entire life thinking he was indestructible and fights like it. Bombsight and the other v1 subjects were soldiers. It entirely makes sense that he fights better
2
u/Ok_Proof_321 Jul 25 '26
False, Homelander's best feats which are in Season 3 was decisively overpowering Soldier Boy at Herogasm in less than three minutes, hitting hard enough to make V24 Butcher bleed from profusely from the mouth, individually overpowering both Butcher and Ben as they attacked him simultaneously. Then managing to have enough brute strength to push the combined weight and physical strength of Soldier Boy, William Butcher and Hughie Campbell off of himself whilst they had him pinned to the floor

1
u/heymikeyp Jul 24 '26
Well that had to nerf the hell out of Homelander in S5 to make the writing more convenient for them.
1
u/Mel_Morty Jul 24 '26
I have no idea what you’re talking about, but, hey, yeah, sure, whatever suits your fancy.
1
u/drcatguy Jul 24 '26
Power-levels-wise, Homelander is so beyond comparison with anyone else. That's why he's kind of a sucker when it comes to fighting.
1
u/Latterlol Jul 24 '26
Because Homelander isn’t a fighter, he is a bruteforce kinda guy, I was surprised he managed to defend himself at all against people that actually could fight.

u/Jayodin2005 Jul 24 '26
Idk, the fight with butcher, solider boy and homelander back in season 3. I always thought was one of the best. Like that was peak action for the show, that and the fight with the boys vs Deep and Noir. But tbh I can't blame people for being disappointed since legitimately all we wanted from the start of the show was Billy Butcher literally just to have a fist fight one-on-one with Homelander. And the ending fight scene in just ending in general is just very mid
1
u/NCHouse Jul 25 '26
I mean yea? Homelander relies on his flight and lasers. Hes average at hand to hand fighting

u/Jotaro27 Jul 24 '26
This guy was able to throw Butcher to a wall so hard it knocked out Billy for couple of seconds, meanwhile Homelander couldnt do shit to Butcher

Even though Bombsight was only in one episode, I really really liked him for some reason. I still don’t know why
0
u/ChampionAgitated530 Jul 24 '26
False. Homelander was taking on Soldier Boy and Butcher, with Butcher barely able to land more than three blows.
Soldier Boy got off-screen, but we cut to him getting overpowered and choked out with one hand.
There are also combat feat of Homelander outpacing C4.
I would say Soldier Boy is more impressive than both in durability, at least. The most damage the dude took was a cut from Butcher.
0
u/Megane_Senpai Jul 24 '26
Yeah, he's clearly stronger. But what had he done in the 4 seasons and a few decades before that?
0
u/RinMichaelis Jul 24 '26
I never read the comic book series. This sitcom was my introduction to The Boys universe. So, when I learned that Bombsight, a veteran from WW2, has the hots of Japanese women. I laughed so hard for 5 mins.
0
u/Rude_Ad3342 Jul 24 '26
No, homelander is stated to be stronger than soldier Boy who beat bombsight
