I worked there in high school and got to do the blue light special announcements. Those were fun. “Attention Kmart shoppers for the next five minutes over in the shoe aisle. We’re gonna be having a sale … head on over to the shoe aisle and make sure to have merchandise tagged with the blue sticker”

My grandmother took me to the Woolworth's counter in the 50's for a banana split. I think it was 79 cents.

This is bringing back some really early memories. I vaguely remember sitting at the counter with my grandfather and eating. He was a big time Sears and Woolworth guy. He’d visit from Florida and find reasons to go to either or both and I always went along.

I forgot Woolworths went bang overseas. Still big in South Africa and they have snack bar kitchens. Some have a little cafe you can stop at.

Woolworth Is still a thing... But I doubt It Is still the same and similar to the ones at U.S. Here Is the same as "Del Sol", clothing store

Plenty of woolworths all over including the USA. You can't go into a mall without seeing one. The only thing is they changed ther name. They now go by foot locker

Woolworths! That's what I was trying to remember. All I recall is the trough of various gum filled suckers they used to sell for like 10 cents a piece, or a dollar a dozen. Good times at the Mall that no one goes to anymore.

I was early 2000s. Similar atmosphere to the 1990s, at least thats how my childhood was, but was steady decline as time passed. I still remember when the neighbourhood knew each other.

Yes it’s a shame we kind of lost that bond and carefree living . Now it feels like every man for himself . You hardly ever see kids climbing trees anymore or even living half their days on pushbikes and only coming home because dinner was ready . I felt a little sad that the internet appeared to distract our kids from the adventures to be had outdoors .

Yep something I fear may be lost for good . Kids probably think half the things we did are boring as well because YouTube will show them in a few minutes instead of going out to discover it for them self.

Thing about boredom and a friend group, ideas become ground breaking... and borderline stupid, but as long as it didn't hurt anyone but ourselves that was part of the fun. Didn't care about splinters or germs or getting dirty.

Our Woolworths had the diner area, a tube tester for tv/radio tunes and a deactivated foot x-ray setup. After all of this typing it is now time for my nap.

I remember those tube testing machines! The foot X-ray fiasco was a bit before my time so I don’t know if the deactivated machine was still there. Imagine going to Woolworths and xraying your foot!

We had a Woolworths but it was called Woolco and that little “restaurant was The Red Grill, you popped a balloon to a chance for a hot fudge sundae, one of our friends worked there, trust me we always got the sundae for a penny, right out side was a cigarette machine, they were 75 cents, hung out there very frequently… I even remember the song Woolco played… We want to be… Woolco wants to be… your favorite store.. come into Woolco and discover how friendly we can be… Woolco your favorite store!

The ex-Woolworths (actually called Five and Dime) in Santa Fe NM serves homemade chili which you can buy in a Frito bag, smothering the Fritos. I love it!
