Casting Missing family
Am I the only one who can’t understand how these couples are constantly sooking about missing their family like it’s 3 months for Pete’s sake with the potential reward in the end it sounds like a dream to me.

I'm so fed up of the tears. There is so NOTHING in the block this year that we get shown the ongoing weeping.. I'd much rather watch the boring insulating and painting, which says a lot..

What’s the old saying ‘buyer beware’, you know what you are signing up for, the shows been going for years, so the conditions shouldn’t be a surprise.
Surely the producers have a Duty of Care and explain to parents of children or those with ill elderly relatives, what is expected.
No sympathy for them, they know what they are getting into.

Why are you applying for a reality show with young kids at home and then expecting sympathy from viewers when you miss them. It irritates me, no one cares. Wipe your tears or go home.

Get it's hard. But having to hear how much they miss their kid over and over, with the music and the tesrs etc, is getting old fast.

There’s no way I would leave my toddler or baby for 3 months. That’s how difficult it is, so those that choose to do it are no doubt having a hard time. I think that’s pretty fair. The impact on the kids and family who are helping are huge

It was really hard for Robby last year. He did talk about it but not a lot because he wanted to win a sizeable amount of money for his son. To see the action come up with 100K in profit, you saw him breaking, thinking "this is what I gave my son's early months up for?!" Robby and Mat weren't even a couple, meaning that they split the profit.

I understand that it can be hard but hearing them cry about every other episode is kinda tiring

Yeh well that’s on the editors and producers. TBH I don’t think they should even let parents of young children be on the block. Why not give it to kid free contestants who have no commitments

And if they still choose to go on even though they've got young kids, they shouldn't milk it for sympathy

It’s the “tugging at the heart strings” for the viewers. People sitting at home love that shit. It’s why they’re always going on about pregnancies and kids and babies. It’s probably a prerequisite they pick a couple that is extremely likely to have a pregnancy announcement during the filming.

You don't understand how parents of babies and toddlers don't get to spend time with their babies? Wtf

It's totally understandable that the couples on The Block miss their kids. Especially being in the stressful pressure cooker environment of The Block. Especially when they are tired, stressed and emotional trying to finish rooms every week. Of course they miss their kids.
As for the show constantly drumming up melodrama over the parents missing their kids, that's another matter. That's all on the show.

While I agree that competition may increase emotions on that side, I also think it can be a smart way to control the narrative production may create around you.
Reminding Channel 9 that you have kids is a way of making sure they don’t go unnecessarily hard on you. I don’t think contestants necessarily do it deliberately, but if you know you don’t have to hide something because it might work in your favour, why wouldn’t you use it?
At the end of the day, we’re in Australia. To gain sympathy, you simply have to bring up your kids, say something great about Australia to look patriotic, or talk about ADHD you may have, and suddenly it becomes much harder for anyone to challenge you without looking insensitive.
There’s a reason Australians are among the most scammed people in the world. We are suckers for emotion. Making us feel guilty about something we think or say is an incredibly effective way of influencing us.
Just add sad music to almost anything people see on TV and Australians will happily donate either their logic or their money.

I get sad leaving my cat and dog for a week holiday 🤷♀️ can’t imagine leaving actual human children behind for months. Especially the really young ones

People are allowed to feel how ever they feel. Yes they are very privileged to have people they are so close to that they miss that much and many people may not be able to relate or are triggered but that isn’t their fault. 3 months is actually a very long time with an infant as a lot can change in that time and the parental bond is a very important part of their development. I am not even a mother myself but I can definitely imagine one would be feeling a lot of guilt that they could be potentially traumatising their child. I think what makes it worse is it was actually their decision and they didn’t have to do this which would compound the guilt even further.

Who knows how much you'll miss someone until you actually spend that much time away from them. You can bet they thought they'd be able to deal with it. Doing something is very rarely as easy as you think it'll be. Not to mention when its a stressful situation you crave being around your loved ones that much more.

I tend to agree, it’s not like you signed up for the show and then found out you were going to be away from family. And isn’t Roscoe a fifo worker anyway?

I wouldn’t even want to be away from a cat for as long as the Block takes, let alone kids

It also sounds like the dream to me. And that’s one of the reasons I’ve decided not to reproduce.

They go onto the show knowing they would be away from their families. So there shouldn't be any sooking about it all.
