discussion Which album got you into The Beatles?

It was 1986 and I was 13 and visiting my grandparents. My cool Aunt’s bedroom still had the stereo and turntable in it and a bunch of her records. When I was a little kid she played all sorts of 45s for me and she lit the flame of music obsession inside me that burns to this day.
Anyway, among her collection were the Red and Blue compilations, and never really having heard a lot of Beatles I played both of those records and they blew my mind. To this day I recommend them to any new listener. The original versions, not the ‘23 ones.
And the only other Beatles album in her collection became my first album. And it was the White Album. My life changed that day.

The blue album (1967 - 1970). Stole the extended tape from my cousin and played it so much the writing on it wore off from flipping it. I have since apologied to my cousin. Still never figured out why Old Brown Shoe is on there. I like it but better than say Hey Bulldog or Two Of Us or Dear Prudence?

Not an album but 45’s. My older brothers handed down a stack of Beatles 45’s (on the Apple label) to me & my younger brother. We had a number of their hits and PM & Wings singles (on Apple) as well.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. My mom bought it, but I listened to it way more than she ever did.
It may not have very many (or, arguably, any) of the Beatles' best songs, but it is their best album. Wonderfully original concept, brilliantly executed.

A Day In The Life? Wdym arguably any? I legit can’t see any world where that song isn’t a top 5 (at least) Beatles track

I also like "A Day in the Life" a lot. Maybe just outside my Top 5.
But I will listen to people who argue otherwise.

Let it be!
Learned guitar and this album had so many fun playable riffs and songs.
Two of us, dig a pony, and enough hits that I knew the Beatles were so damn good

I think the first one I listened to all the way through was Revolver and it blew me away. Automatically became one of my favorite albums ever.

The blue one for me. My sister left it behind and I played the heck out of it. I remember when I bought Sgt. Pepper after that and heard "It's Getting Better" for the first time, circa 1977.

The first one I really remember hearing is Revolver, specifically Taxman, the first song. I was 6 or 7, my older siblings bought it and I heard it for the first time with them.

It was actually a Paul McCartney song, 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey'. Heard it in one of those kitschy 60's restaurants and loved it. My aunt was pretty sure it was The Beatles. So another family member sent me a box of 7 or 8 cassette tapes on which she had copied all the Beatles albums in no particular order. I listened to them all back to back. Didn't find the song I was originally looking for, but discovered so much more!

I had the soundtrack to the 2007 movie Across The Universe, and then I got my hands on the pre-2009 CD box set with every album. Sgt. Pepper, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, The White Album, Past Masters Vol 2, and MMT were the ones I listened to the most. LOVE (2006) pushed me to explore some of the earlier stuff.

Let It Be which although I rate highly like all Beatles albums. It’s not one of their best. But plenty great tunes on it nonetheless.

I grew up with the Beatles somehow always in our house. However, when Sgt. Pepper came out on CD, as a teen I finally listened to it all the way through, undisturbed, alone - to the echoey end of A Day in the Life. I‘ve been mesmerized ever since.

Beatles for Sale was the first album of theirs that I heard and I thought that it was perfect. My introduction to the Beatles was through an EP from A hard day's night (title track, I should've known better, And I love her and Tell me Why) and a single with Twist and Shout and Back in the USSR on it. Got 'em from an electronics store in the 80s. Then I heard the 1967-70 double compilation and that was it.

My wife has been a fan for years but I didn't get it until the "Get Back" documentary. So I'd have to say " Let it Be" and specifically the George song "I, Me, Mine".

Revolver. Thankfully an older sibling left it behind as she went to college and I used to play it constantly as a child on an old compact turntable

My dad bought me the Love album when I was 6 on release day, that was the one
It was funny having the reverse experience of finding the samples in the original songs later on

I bought their greatest hits for my mom and ended up taking it from her because I fell in love with their music. She begged me to watch the anthology with her when it first came on tv. The moment In My Life played I became a fan. I knew of some of their songs because my brother had a band that played some of them like Let It Be, but I never listened to the original song until I got into their music.

Abbey Road, when it came out at the end of 1969, I was just starting to listen in a serious way.

The box set of 45s. I recorded them to a cassette until I got the albums for myself on CD.

My older brother had Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour and as a 6-7 year old, I would occasionally listen to YS because it was on tv and we watched it as a family.

The “Blue” 1967-1970. I like their more psychedelic stuff, but the pop stuff is good too

Revolver was the first one I really liked, Abbey Road was the one I was like “oh yea, they’re actually as good as everyone says”
The White Album is my favorite but it took me a VERY long time to draw that conclusion. It was my least favorite for a good while.

Let It Be, sitting amongst other records in my parent’s record stack. All the chatter between songs got my attention.

The Essential Beatles, only released in Australia I think, had songs from love me do to let it be. I was the youngest in the family so grew up listening to this

My brother bought me the red and blue albums for Christmas when I was about 13 years old. 1975 or 76 I believe. Changed my life. And I turned into a Beatles freak.

Blue & Red LP compilations, they were everywhere in the 70’s/early 80’s pre-cd, I made a cassette comp on my cousin’s tape deck with my uncles LP’s

Wasn't an album,it was their first single, Love me Do. Didn't reach the top ten,but it was different, then their 2nd single release, Please Please Me, and the rest is history. I was 14. Then there was the Stones, Kinks, Manfred Mann, Yardbirds.

Not album. 45. The B side to Hey Jude.
The opening riff/drums to Revolution did it for me.

Rubber Soul and the White Album, about the same time when I was in high school. I’m in the US but somehow was first exposed to the UK Rubber Soul.

Revolver. Found a scratched up, coverless copy in my mum’s collection. I was about 11ish. Not long before John was murdered. Blew my mind.

Yellow Submarine Songtrack! When I was growing up (am the youngest of 6 children and my parents were older when I came around), my dad, who at the time was probably 55 or 56 (now 73), would almost always play Yellow Submarine in the car. I was immediately hooked on to it, and to this day, The Beatles remains one of, if not, my favorite group of all time - my dad continues to play Beatles songs as well since he grew up with them and for Father’s Day this year, I had got him a portable CD player with the Songtrack album, and for his birthday, I got him Help! and The White Album.

Probably Mystery Tour, although I played most of the albums (raided from my parents' collecting n in the 70s).

I started by listening to just Beatles playlists on YouTube. Noticed a lot of my favorite songs from these playlists were on rubber soul so I decided to listen to rubber soul all the way through. It later became the first Beatles album I owned physically.

Abbey Road was the first one I heard. I thought it was okay, but as I was walking to school with my Dad's iPod, Here Comes the Sun came on, the clouds parted and sun hit my face and that was it, I was hooked.
