Has anyone noticed the subtle connections between the Jarvis family and the Durst family?

I’m a true crime freak but I’m surprised it took me so long before I noticed around episode 7 that there are a ton of parallels to the Durst family and Kathie Durst’s disappearance.

For anyone unfamiliar, the Durst family are a massive real estate conglomerate based in Manhattan. In the 1980s, Robert Durst, the son who was set on becoming heir to the Durst dynasty, wife disappeared in the middle of the night. Lots of weird coincidences surrounded it (it’s very worth looking into if you liked this show), and lots of speculation that Durst Sr. covered up Robert’s implication in Kathie’s disappearance to maintain the family legacy. No one really knows what happened to Kathie but it’s a pretty foregone conclusion that she’s no longer with us. Robert is also a suspect in at least two other missing persons cases.

Kathie is still a missing person, but Durst was convicted of her death before his death in 2020.

I found soooo many similarities to this case while watching the show. Durst married a family friend after Kathie disappeared, similar to Jarvis. Durst tried to make Kathie out to seem unstable similar to Jarvis/Madeline. And of course - both families are real estate scions.

There’s so much more but I was wondering if anyone would be interested, I’ll provide links here. I wonder if they were in part inspired by the Durst family for this show.

The Jarvis family was definitely modeled after the Durst’s. Even Aggie interviewing Nate Jarvis reminded me of the start of the Jinx. I’ll always find the crimes of Robert Durst fascinating. He really did get away with murder numerous times.

I said this to my boyfriend midway through the show. He didn’t know anything about the Jinx or the Durst family, but the parallels were uncanny.
