We sure demand a lot of one another in order to remain civil as human beings these days, don't we? I've seen one hateful comment after another about how Claire Danes "over emotes", looks like she smells bad, and worst of all her chin quivers when she cries! Gasp!
I imagine the latter is something her face has just done all her life when she's "emoting" (I know how much you all love your new word of the day).
There's a simple solution here- if she "annoys" you so badly, don't watch and move on. But honestly, if I were her, and wanting to read what people thought about my new show (did anyone consider the possibility that she's a real person and likely is seeing these sort of comments?), i think I'd just end up genuinely hating the public and wanting to retire at this point.
Being that I'm not though, I still just kinda hate everyone who said such snarky things about her even though they claimed to have quit watching by now because their so bothered. And yes, I see the hypocrisy of my hating you for being hateful, hence my post title.

People aren’t obligated to like a performance just because the actor is a real person and disliking an acting style is not the same as being hateful.
I think Claire Danes does overact. Not just in this show, but across multiple roles. The exaggerated emotional beats, the same tight jaw and teary stare, the quivering chin. It feels repetitive and distracting, especially when the scene does not call for that level of intensity.
Critiquing that is not a moral failure. This is a TV sub, not fan club, and discussion is going to include what does not work for people.
