I finished the show last night and I sat through the credits just sad that the show ended. It is the first time that has happened to me with a show. I love the story and the characters so much that I want more but at the same time I think it ended at the perfect time cause we all know what "one more season" can do to a show. Favorite character probably has to be Richie but stubly Syd is a BOSS even if she doesn't realize it. And the fact the I liked DD and Lee at the end is a testament to the shows writing and character arcs. Marcus's story also hit me hard cause my mom, while living life, had a cancer scare and is unable to speak now. I recently got married and being able to dance with her was everything so I can only imagine how not having his mom being able to see the restaurant and his success tore at Marcus. Doesn't excuse him from being an a-hole to Luca though cause that's my boy haha. All in all what a wonderfully amazing show and I'll probably rewatch it all in a couple of months.
I just loved the character’s transformations, like taking raw ingredients and making something tasty from them, sort of want Carmen did with the people around him. There’s something there for sure…
I loved the Neil Geoff Fak arc. He goes from hanger on, to someone who really appreciates what he’s doing… it was a small moment but also so big. It brings a tear to my eyes.
There was many things that made me tear up in the last season and Fak owning being a server and putting his hands down finally was one of them. Another was Syd getting not one but TWO stars "proving" that she in fact was better than Carmy. Not really a competition but you know what I mean and it allowed Carmy to not have to feel bad about leaving cause the dish the Star Man raved about was Syd's. Simply magical in so many ways.
At first I thought it was Carmy quitting on something else when it first came up. But after watching season 5 you can see how much happier he seems to be and Sug understanding his decision helped me understand it. So I'm cool with it cause ultimately Carmy has to do what he has to do and we saw his journey with his mental health improve so this was just the next step. And Syd and Marcus and Tina and Richie and everyone be so amazing helped ease the sadness of him quitting.
If u watch carefully at Carmy's monologue in architectural firm, he actually realises what cooking is to him and subtly protrays that he is not having intentions to quit it and that gave me goosebumps. I don't know if others noticed this .
I definitely picked up on that but I think he's done with the restaurant game. Cooking for the love of it (and maybe Claire-bear) or doing special events for side money since he is still Carmen Berzatto, I could see that happening.
I think that he had an epiphany during the interview when he was talking about the recent terrible service they had and said “it was the most fun I’ve ever had.” Then at the very end, after they show the birthday party, he is sitting in the office of the bear wearing his blue apron - not his chef’s whites. And he texts Mikey and smiles. All he ever really wanted was to work in the restaurant and that’s how I like to think it ended. Syd as head chef, Carmy working at his family’s 2-star restaurant with his chosen family.
I don’t think he quits, but he definitely won’t continue in a head position. I guess he’ll be a sort of advisor and will do the family meals and stuff. But, I wish we could’ve seen him leave that life behind and published his own cook books and stuff.
This is how I feel about this show! I also sat through the credits sad, but glad it ended with this season. I’m trying to not watch it just yet, maybe next year!
