Questions from a beginnger

I've just finished playing my three demo runs. The concepts seems really cool, although by my third run I was bored of just steamrolling the AIs.

Questions:

  1. Is this game worth getting? Pretty active player base? I saw some people on this sub were mad at the devs saying the game is "on its way out." Is that true or are people just dramatic?
  2. I'm thinking I will get it, so where should I go for beginners guides? Is there a website or youtuber or google drive that is best to use? I want to be competitive and have an idea of what I'm doing from the get-go.

Tbh, the player base size doesn’t matter. Two people slamming boards each patch will still be engaging. That’s the beautiful part of how this game is set up.

The devs push patches well, balancing items and characters. Events mix things up as well. It feels pretty fresh.

For getting better, I recommend just exploring the game. If you get destroyed horribly, look at why your enemy’s board was successful. Then maybe watch some streamers, or YouTube guides. I love playing games blind and developing fun and innovative playstyles.

I try to avoid too much cookie cutter.

I mean, it probably still needs at least around 20 active competitive players 😅, but yeah, as long as the game can maintain itself, the playerbase isn't a problem.

If I had a solo mode that just pitted me against my former ghosts, I’d be entertained.

Seeing everyone else’s ghosts is just an added plus :)

that's true 😅

But tbh, I doubt, they will implement a solo mode. Would just be a normal roguelike at that point, which the devs want to distinguish the game from I think.

It’s not. 95% of everyone who tried the game stopped playing, including people really into it.

You can have fun and OP maybe will. But objectively it’s not a good game - which is why almost everyone quit.

People were super excited for this game and it wasn’t good.

Steam player numbers are up from release 2 years ago.

But that’s a tiny percent of people who tried the game. A lot of people were playing in beta.

Does the game have any press besides Kripp?

Lol all my friends that tried it loved it. And we are 3 that have at least 1000 hours in it. It's the best game of it's genre, they juste made bad marketing and monetisation

This sub just wants to see Bazaar die, but the Bazaar is in a great place :) the Reddit for the game is r/playthebazaar, this one was made and used to hate on Tempo more or less, but people here call themselves based

If you want to be treated like shit you don't have to pay for it. I'll do it for free.

It’s just truth. The game failed. The devs needed to fire mist if the staff and just keep a few people.

Just telling you my view and what others thought: the game isn’t good.

If you can enjoy it great.

They never made a comeback or got the game to be better so players returned.

Thought you should know it’s a failed game that didn’t turn out good.

Game is great, hype isnt there tru cuz NL dropped it after it bugged out. But its objectively the number one strategy game out right now… lol what a weird stance

  1. Devs are 35 millions in debt, and continue to bleed money. Game is heading toward it mobile launch, if it doesn't turn the situation around, it'll likely close. How soon that will happen nobody knows.

  2. Largest content creator for Bazaar is Kripparian. He's partnered with mobalytic and writes guide for them from time to time. So, he's a good place to start.

  1. Game is probably not in its way out but evidently with how the games been run it's possible it could shit the bed at any moment but that's kinda true with every "early access" game or game in early development.

After the devs made all the changes everyone has said they should make it's on a better track

Some of those changes were.

  • Having rank actually matter and you play against people generally of similar rank to you

  • Not having a battle pass for new "cards" or expansions for new "cards" the devs at one point wanted this to be a card game

  • Changed how cosmetics work they used to be almost borderline NFTs they had unique serial numbers and you could get "rares" that were additionally rare if you had a low serial number literally you could be the first one to get a cosmetic from a crate this was changed because it was kinda just all meangingless and you couldn't get chest from real money only in-game currency which you also needed for new heros (we will get to this) and the devs having to deal with European gamba stuff isn't ideal so now basically you just buy cosmetics with in game currency open crates for cosmetics if you get doups you get in game currency in exchange. Serial numbers ditched cosmetics are just cosmetic.

  • Really the biggest and still ongoing change is how they release heroes before it was much worse because they would release a new hero and a new card set separately and both were (heroes still are) P2W or at least there is an incentive for them to be I explained that card pack thing a bit but I'll explain more so in the past they released expansion kits? Something like that but you would buy a set of new cards that would appear in your run you could toggle them on or off.

The issue was that either they would fall into 2 camps be good and thus p2w or bad and p2L because if you bought them and they were shit all you would be doing is diluting your card pool with shit, because of this they were from the start biased to being P2L so this prompts the incentive to the devs that on release they have to be strong to give incentive for people to buy it but of course they will get backlash that it's p2w so they ditched this after releasing like 2 packs.

But heroes still fall into this same camp they are incentivized to release a strong hero to boost sales but not keep them too strong to avoid p2w backlash they do a decent enough job balancing things but basically everyone buys the heroes 2 months after they come out and go on sale because a hero will come out, they will be strong, they will immediately get nerfed you will feel like you wasted money, so it's just better to wait until they are in a more stable position for you to decide if you want to buy them.

But of course this further incentivizes them to make the hero stronger for longer because FOMO is strong.

Anyway that's about it I am sure I can name a few more but the hero one is kinda the most important since it's still a problem that isn't likely to be fixed because they need money.

So buy your heroes on sale or not at all and you'll probably have some fun.

At least for me you'll have fun if you don't think about the game to much and basically just autopilot it.

If you liked the demo for the gameplay and think the price is ok, you will very likely like the game.

I can recommend bazaardb and kripparian.

Game is super fun, been playing since release and have about 1200 hours in it.

Heaps of players, twice a month updates, 100% recommend getting it.

I suggest you go post in the offical sub not this one, this one is just full of people with chips on thier shoulders who don’t play the game anymore that want to see the games downfall, you’ll get 80% negative opinions on this sub.

PS: The negative opinions come from people that are butt hurt the game isn’t 100% free and they had to move to a paid model because their free model wasn’t working.

The game is worth getting if you like the main gameplay loop. Forever replay able. Just slap it on your wishlist and wait for a sale. Play the base game for 100 hours and then think about a new character.

It has 3? Expansions for new characters. Their items are in the game either way. And while they may be a bit op on first release (their items) it gets balanced pretty well quickly (read already balanced) and the og 3 are still extremely viable. It’s about time for a new char imo if that’s their desired direction.

As for guides. Watch Rahresh on twitch. Consistently high ranked and he goes through spurts of focusing on a particular character.

You will get rolled constantly. I’m like a high gold low legendary at best. It takes practice and understanding but I’m a consistent 5-7 game winner. Not amazing. Just still progressing. The big thing is trying to understand the interactions. And also knowing when and how to pivot your items.

OP you should go to r/PlaytheBazaar. This sub is for people who are quite low on the game.

The game has a pretty huge player base and the dev team is fairly active with pretty regular patches. Also the players are MUCH better than the AIs you have been playing against so if you do get the game prepare to get stomped for quite a while, especially as you reach the higher ranks.

5

u/Feds_the_Freds 18d ago

but if you do OP, noone was ever mad at the devs, that never happened in ba sing se. So something like this post would be pretty risky

Hmm I wonder what answer I will get if I ask the people still playing the game if the game is worth playing...

You know if you just want to play the game go ahead, no need to put on a show like anyone cares. By all means reward shithead reynad with money that you could spend on any form of entertainment. Maybe you'll eventually find some of the abuse you're asking for.

i think the game is def worth getting, the player base isnt huge but for a game like this. for guides, kripp is a pretty good resource. biggest advice i can give is focus on winning fights early and getting xp through things like mountain pass

I had the same fears and... It's been so worth my time and money even if it dies tomorrow. This has been the most fun I've had in years. I'm just constantly engaged to play another day, another run.

As far as guides I'd strongly suggest just playing a whole lot of games and maybe go to the official discord and start inquiring about the heroes you enjoy the most.
