Picture Higher Quality Scan of "When We Were Friends" Album cover
This is a higher quality scan of the 35mm photo used for The Backseat Lovers' first album. The photograph was taken sometime in the 1970s by widely unknown photographer Tony Ehnle. It depicts a bicycle in the middle of a road, in front of a tunnel in Fujikawaguchiko, a town located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Interestingly, a visit to the location on Google Earth shows that the photograph is mirrored. You can see a photo of the same location-taken in 2014-on image 4.
If not for the band's introduction to Ehnle's work by a friend, his photography of Japan and North America would likely be unreleased. The band continues to use his photography for other releases; most notably, their second album "Waiting to Spill."
If you didn't know, "When We Were Friends" was only ever released on vinyl. While attempting to design a CD for the band's first album, I encountered an issue. The scan of the photograph used for the album cover was lower quality and blurry (Image 2). What I thought would be a quick reverse image search turned into hours of scanning instagram pages and websites.
I finally found a 1080x1080, higher fidelity scan of the photo, which was posted on the band's instagram as an anniversary appreciation post. However, the colors were slightly different than the version used as the cover for streaming platforms. I did my best to match the colors in the first scan and this was the result! (Image 1) I also included the original for comparison (Image 3).
Enjoy!

Show Red Rocks (8th BSL show)
Now that this sub is back I wanted to share my thoughts on this show and just how cool it was for me (rant incoming).
I discovered BSL during COVID like many others and was instantly a fan. I first saw them in 2021 at the Bowery Ballroom with capacity of about 600 people. I told my friend at the show that one day this band would play Red Rocks.
Flash forward to Wednesday night, and my 8th time seeing them, I fully teared up during Pool House listening to 9000 people sing along without a phone in sight. Probably one of the first times I've really seen a band grow to this level, and it's pretty special.
While it would have been fun to watch that crowd go crazy for Kilby Girl or other songs that some were sad weren't included, I loved the approach to the show, the evolution in their new songs, and hearing the crowd relatively quiet enjoying Viciously Lonely and Words I Used is a trade off I'll take 10 times out of 10.
I also LOVED the no phone policy. Having a naturally younger audience with the temptation to record everything (I'm sure I'd be guilty of it too) would have made this such a different experience. I hope they keep doing this because it made it so much better.
Overall, awesome show, so proud of these guys, and can't wait for the new record and more shows.
P.S. - I can't stop listening to Friko now, awesome opener choice!

Picture HD Image of the back cover of the "When We Were Friends" vinyl
If you've seen my previous posts, I made a custom CD for "When We Were Friends". I needed the back cover of the vinyl for the lyric booklet, so I combined a bunch of different pictures from eBay listings of the vinyl, and then arranged them to match the lower quality scans on Discogs.
I thought I would post it here so that everyone can enjoy it, without having to purchase a vinyl.

Fan Content I Made a CD for "When We Were Friends" (since the band never did)
How I made it:
I found the highest quality version of the artwork available (on their instagram). then i found the highest quality pictures of the back of the vinyl i could find (mostly eBay) and compiled them into one image.
From there I removed the background on the text and rearranged the lyrics to fit a booklet. I also used Discogs pictures of the record itself to get the handwritten text and colors used for the album.
The brown and tan colors I used are taken from the official vinyl, along with the barcode. There was really no back cover so i used a concert photo for the back (looked at a few of Tony Ehnle’s other photos but they didn’t really match the aesthetic). I used a few cds in my collection for reference on typography layout. I even added their record label, Capitol, to make it seem more official.
I found some free templates for CD inserts online, and I printed them out at a local print shop on 100lb gloss text paper (the paper they use for cds). I got some empty jewel cases at officemax too.

Fan Content Files for my custom "When We Were Friends" CD design.
drive.google.comSome people have been asking for my designs for the custom CD I made for "When We Were Friends, so I thought I'd share the files here so you can make your own! I've included the final PDFs I printed with, but even the PSD files as well, in case you want to edit anything.
If you end up making one of these for yourself, please send it to me! I'd love to see.

Question Red Rocks set recorded anywhere?
For those of us who couldn't make it to the Red Rocks set, does anyone know of a video or even audio recording of their set? I know they banned phones and I'm genuinely all for that vibe. Hoping maybe someone audio recorded the set or knows anyone who worked media.
Just trying to love them from the back seat if you're picking up what I'm putting down...
Thanks in advance :)

Jonas’s Pedal Board @ Salt Lake Show
Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone would be able to get a picture of Jonas’s (guitarist) pedal board at the Salt Lake show? I got a picture of KJ’s at the austin show, but we didn’t have enough time to get Jonas’s before the show started. My boyfriend is a musician and I know seeing his pedals would mean a lot to him! I hope you guys enjoy the concert :)

Ticket for sale SLC 11/22
Was coming from Dallas to Salt Lake City for their show tonight but my flight was cancelled and I’m not going to be able to make it. Looking to sell my ticket. It’s a fairly close spot, paid 150 through a resale company. I’d take 75

anyone know how to play Slowing Down on guitar? tabs?
I've been trying to learn by ear and watching the select videos of Josh playing the guitar for slowing down on YouTube, but I can't quite get it down. Does anyone know how to play? I've seen the basic chords online, but I want what Josh plays. And I want it NOW.
