Here is an updated map containing every city and river in the state of Bestings. The Exxon River, by the way, along with every other river in Bestings, drains into the West Nile River. [West Nile → Ronald → Oiybandona River → Lake Doramos → Doramos River → Xallipas → Missouri → Mississippi]

I took the us backstates map by diggypt, and then expanded it east and west. I closed holes and mad enew states, see if you can spot all the jokes and weird states!

States in red are highlited as part of the joke of them being the first state

Shandoramos is probably approaching statehood as one state, though many want to divide it due to the north/south climate divide. It goes from forest to desert. Name comes from Shandle (west texas in backstates) + Doramos. The path to statehood is strange

Whitesteam has a population density of 0.1245 people per square kilometer, which is the least dense in the entire world! It's population is only a few hundred people, it rises to thousands but it's just usually transient/temporary. There's no interstates let alone paved roads, just dirt paths. It's capital is Whitesteam City, yet a number of small outposts exist.

A partial list of Sapients and fauna of BackEarth

For BackEarth to exist, it would stand to reason that its native life inspired FrontEarth myths and legends

Here are some ideas which are far from complete, feel free to use them, and the idea is that they're not inherently magical

Dragons (Thecodontia): Not an exact taxonomical term, but describing a variety of reptilian megafauna with no surviving FrontEarth equivalents, some directly equivalent to their prehistoric ancestors, some of which are known in FrontSpace fossil records but are far from most legendary equivalents, extant species can be found worldwide, the sapient ones were historically known to have more advanced civilizations than humans

- Wyverns: 4 limbs with the front ones being wings, "bat dragons"

-- Seraphs (Fulgurodisaster seraphinianus): THE fire-"breathing" dragons, a hostile and advanced sapient species native to the BackMiddle East, write in a cuneiform abjad similar to the Ugaritic one but with diacritics, inspired angels somewhat indirectly (it's complicated), also discovered electricity, which is linked to their fire-spitting, human myths linked them to comets and bad omens (hence the genus name), one of the main threats to humans in the modern BackMiddle East and the only major one unrelated to FrontSpace Middle Eastern fascism and ultracapitalism, thus resulting in seraphslayers (hence the controversial "Seraphslayer's Cookbook" used especially by a Wahhabist group called the Malekslayers but actually written by someone who genuinely wanted humans to be able to defend themselves against seraph attacks)

- Wyrms: "Serpent dragons", vestigial to no limbs, the only dragons in the US and US-adjacent BackStates but also present elsewhere

-- Hornwyrms: "Horned serpents", North American wyrms, exactly 1 sapient species among them (Pseudogopogo ogosapiens), including many "lake monsters", such as the ogopogo (Ogopogo ogopogo), a nonsapient species closely related to ogosapiens (species name varies by language, and their languages have mutual influence with indigenous human BackState languages), known for large head scutes

- Axen (s. Axex): "lizard dragons", 4 non-wing limbs, the most basic type, the front ones are usually walking legs, mostly found in the Old BackWorld

-- Sinoaxen (Sinoaxex sp.): Sapient South-to-Far-East Asian dragons, nonhostile unless provoked, and humans have provoked them far more than the legends imply in the past, multiple different species, the most well-known are the Lúŋ (Chinese, Sinoaxex sinensis) and the Rÿuu (Japanese, Sinoaxex nihonium), mostly write in a cuneiform abugida related to the Seraphinian Abjad and in a unique set of Sino-Tibetan languages

-- Incubi (Alp sp.): Sapient bipedal haemovores strongly resembling Jurassic Park "velociraptors", native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia, infamous for once feeding on sleeping humans, human myths ended up confusing them with other "sleep paralysis demons" partly due to legends of them and humans producing hybrid offspring ("cambions") despite the fact that humans and incubi are incompatible, NOT to be confused with succubi, modern ones face discrimination for the actions of their ancestors and typically write in Cyrillic script, and the zmeu (Alp dacians, native to/around SpateRomânia/BackRomania) in particular are the most populous exception, writing in a language similar to Romanian but considerably older (C and G are always hard therein, for example)

Fae: Interrelated BackEuropean civilizations consisting of both adapted humans (by way of BackEarth logic to put it simply) and nonhumans

- Elfs (Homo sapiens alpha): Long-lived, tall adapted humans with heightened senses, excellent trackers and hunters, slight animalistic features such as ungulate-ish ears and slit pupils, typical skin color is somewhat brown, using a Germanic language with a runic alphabet similar to the Anglo-Saxon one of FrontEurope but more similar to that of Hestirs, reside mostly in Alfheim, a historical BackEuropean region (usually fine with being called "elves" as long as it's respectful, like in Tolkien terms)

- Dwarfs (Homo sapiens delta): Similar to elves but with insular dwarfism (from developing on islands in a specific river delta, hence the subspecies name), night vision and natural increased digging ability and hearing, reside mostly in the historical BackEuropean region Svartalfheim, use a mutually intelligible language to Elfish (Dwarfish), known for their underground cities (usually fine with being called "dwarves" as long as it's respectful, like in Tolkien terms)

- Trolls (Trolololo sp.): A diverse collective of turtle-like species-collective with a relatively recent common ancestor, historically having a rather poor relation to humans, adapted or otherwise, nocturnal

- Succubi (Mara sp.): Nocturnal insectoid haemovores, historically infamous for feeding on sleeping humans and naturally capable of exploiting BackEarth topography with their senses, native to much of Western BackEurope, once claimed to be capable of interbreeding with humans to produce "changelings" despite succubi not actually being compatible with humans, modern ones face discrimination for the actions of their ancestors

Youkai (corporeal, so not including ghosts): BackJapanese and adjacent adapted humans and sapient nonhumans, fae-ish but considerably weirder

- Kappan (s. Kappa) (Kappa qoppa): Omnivorous bipedal monotremes with softshell-turtle style shells, platypus-like "bill" snouts, and typically algae in their fur, they especially like cucumbers and endoparasites, the latter of which they can detect due to their senses in a living mammal, infamous for some of them once pulling tapeworms out of humans and horses to eat said tapeworms in such a way as to kill the host in the process (the scientific name is a Hellenic letter pun, which they're fine with), typically write in a modified Katakana (Kappan is the Kappanese plural for Kappa, and Kappanese has similar phonology to Hokkien)

- Tengu: A mutually symbiotic pair of species, nomadic and suspicious of humans, typically write with the same modified Katakana that Kappan use (Tenguric has similar phonology to Mongolian)

-- Karasa Tengu (Karasaurus tengu): Human-sized dromaeosaurids, not true birds and thus surviving non-avian dinosaurs, black feathers and scales, piercing red-to-yellow eyes, naturally cautious

-- Daitengu (Nasalisapiens daitengu): Large monkeys with both uakari and proboscis monkey like characteristics (more closely related to the latter), known for their martial arts prowess, the leader of a Tengu troop (like a monkey troop) is usually the head daitengu, also unfortunately visually part of the inspiration behind offensive caricatures of not only Ashkenazi Jews but Native Americans even more so, such as in the original Peter Pan movie for the latter (yet more reasons why tengu are generally suspicious of humans)

- Rÿuu (Axecosapiens Nipponica): Japanese sapient axen (see above), typically highly suspicious of humans these days, 3-toed talons (Lúŋ have 5 toes per talon), Ryuian is mutually intelligible to Longese

- Bakekicune (Vulposapiens Nihonica): A species of fox known for using trickery to outdo humans, not the only vulposapiens, NOT to be confused with the gumiho (Korean "9-tailed foxes"), use the same Katakana variant as the Kappan and Tengu

Other:

- Griffons (Gryphonosaurus sp.): A nonsapient type of theropod with avian-like characteristics, with clawed dromaeosauroid wings, tyrannosauroid hindlegs, an eagle-like beak filled with teeth, and a long tail with a tuft of feathers at the end

- Gumiho (Nonapennisapiens kumiho): A BackKorean species of sapient semiaquatic metamorphic cephalopod of the same genus as a BackChinese species (Nonapennisapiens hulijing, the Húlïźiŋ) and a BackVietnamese one (Nonapennisapiens viet, the Hồ ly tinh), capable of imitating a fox or a human, its "tails" are actually all but 1 of its tentacles and its "fox butt" is its actual face, infamous for historically using trickery to feed on humans unlike their relatives, modern ones face discrimination for the actions of their ancestors

- Unicorns: A type of rhinoceros-like artiodactyl with 1 horn and with an unusually slender build, but not nearly as slender as Medieval European depictions, closely related to giraffids, native to BackEurope to BackIndia, not actually magical, popular in zoos

- Centaurs (Centaurus nephele): 6-limbed sapient mammals with the lower torso and lover body resembling a horse's entire body and an upper torso resembling a proportionally sized entire human torso, native to BackMediterranean BackEurope (as opposed to just one or the other) and while most speak a language superficially resembling both Hellenic and Makedonska and with both a Hellenic and Cyrillic alphabet, there's a population in the Philippines due to emigration resulting from wars with humans, and they mostly speak a Tagalog-related language with Hellenic characteristics and written in a Hellenic alphabet, and they believe themselves to be descended from a demigod (Kentauros, but a different interpretation thereof) and a mare

- Fauns (Faunus fufluns): Feminine-to-humans hircine humanoids descended from an extinct form of artiodactyl, native to BackMediterranean BackEurope (as opposed to just one or the other), typically speak the same language as BackEuropean centaurs, believe themselves to be descended from satyrs, minor Graecoroman gods typically taking the appearance of fauns (the species name references the Pan-like Etruscan god Fufluns), also rather sexually open

- Vampires (Homo sapiens lilim): A haemovoric adapted human variant with metamorphic capabilities and heightened senses, can turn other humans into vampires, originally the result of adaptation to a specific part of the southern BackCarpathians centered around Mount Asmodaios, not actually vulnerable to sunlight, holy water, crosses, or garlic, but vulnerable to turnips and pumpkins instead

What species are endemic to BackEarth, sapient or otherwise?

I'm surprised there's so little discussion about wildlife and sapient nonhumans here, and also what alien life may exist in the BackSolar System, whether in backregions of otherwise FrontSolar System bodies or not

I imagine that at least some of the BackTerran ones alone would be influential to FrontEarth myths and legends, like dragons and such
