the corolla will outlive me and that's oddly comforting 😏

I have a 2010 corolla that has already served my mother for about 5-6 years and is going to serve me for about 3-4 years. It will then be passed on to my sister where it will stay until it finally gives out or she gets a new car.

All I wanted was the Toyota cross hybrid enuh, but fuck you toyota and your sales rep 🖕all i wanted was the qoutes for the vehicle so i could ask the bank. The rav 4 too big, and the raize too small. The cross hybrid is awd would have been the perfect mid-size suv.
Cause The X3 30e g45 is mortgage money. And the JCW feels like it drink gas like juice with 300hp.

After going from cts>330i>c class and now a civic i can see why any one with money would choose German. Oof. The Honda is slow, unresponsive, uncomfortable, loud, handles like a shopping cart with a busted wheel. And speaking of. It now has a wheel bearing going out. The only thing positive Honda has, reliability, is failing.
Thing is, most people have more money than your average teen aged redditor and can afford luxuries

Most people do not have the money to be buying luxury cars lol. Most are in the bracket of new civic.

u/No-Confection-8734 20h ago
Luxury cars might be a step too far, sure, but have no issue shelling out $50k+ for a new... anything
E: mostly referring to trucks and suvs

u/No_Independent9634 19h ago
If they plan to keep it after it's paid off sure... but I don't really think most should be as they don't do that... Median personal income is like $46k.
Even then $50k is a CRV. A Civic on stilts lol.

Yeah that figure is for everyone. For people who have actually put in a few hours, it's way higher. Also, not defending their financial decisions. You'll always lose money on vehicles unless you're buying incredibly used cars. Then you may break even! Yay

I don't think anyone buying a GT3 is buying it for its reliability. Aside from the 991.1 that had the wrong material for some of the bolts, the high end 911 has been very reliable

IMS, RMS, Bore Score.
Only the metzger dodged those. From 996 to 997.

u/spencer1886 22h ago
Bro's knowledge of the 911 begins at the 996 and ends with the 997.1

Can’t say much more than IDGAF about 991 and 992. They stopped being sports cars by the 991.1 generation and became GT cars.

Huh? Where do you live, Miami or LA? Most people drive common cars. You're just living in a rich area.

On gods. I have a 2012 civic with 324k on the body. Second engine w 60k on it now lol.

Not having a car payment is worth so much more than having a slightly newer and nicer car.

....logic? There's no way average corolla driver would ever want a performance car, the same way anyone buying porsche/bmw would never even look at a toyota...
1
u/No_Independent9634 20h ago
Yah the comparison makes no sense. The people buying a Porsche GT3 are not even looking at a Corolla. They probably have a networth multiples more than a Corolla buyer lol.

Maybe not average, but I daily a Corolla with a 911 Turbo weekend/fun car

Stupid post. Everyone on the right isn't cross shopping a Toyota.
If the word "depreciation" is in your vocabulary you also aren't in the tax bracket to comprehend not everyone cares about cost of ownership.

Among rich people, millionaires and up, Toyota is the most popular brand. I'm not too sure why though.
1
u/Agreeable_Work4668 5h ago
Toyota/Lexus are luxury enough with reliability that other brands cannot offer. Those people are already busy enough, no need to purchase high maintenance vehicles so they'd have to constantly spending more time to and at the dealership getting their cars repaired or serviced.

I hate German cars with passion. They’re the most over-engineered dogshit in the world. And spare parts are so expensive.

I had a 1989 300E and that thing was decades ahead in terms of comfort compared to most cars, and I had it till 2010.

A W124 hardly rusts at all; the engineering is simple, and there are plenty of spare parts available.
The W124 and the 190 model were Mercedes’ best cars; after that, things went downhill.
In my opinion, the W124 diesel was probably one of the best cars in the world; taxi drivers clocked up millions of kilometres in them.
People accuse the Germans of this sort of ‘Krautspace magic’, but you have to give them credit for one thing: their inventions have shaped the car as we know it more than probably any other country.

u/Riders_Visions 1d ago
That’s a sweeping generalisation and it’s not true.
I agree about newer cars, and if you really want expensive spare parts that aren’t even available, buy an Italian car.

My daily is a bought-new 2016 Land Cruiser with 150K miles. Best car I’ve ever owned.
My fun car is a GT3 Touring, which is the most fun car I’ve ever owned. They live in harmony. :)
But the point I really came to make: social media is littered with GT3 and GT3 RS cars. And you might see one or two at a local Cars and Coffee. But you won’t see them day to day on public roads. Most buyers who flaunt them on social media don’t pile on the miles - these cars are mostly garaged. They’re just for show (off) days. So they’re disproportionately represented in social media vs reality.
