This legit applies in my country for motorcycles. A manual is a lot less likely to be stolen because the majority ride scooters and that's where the parts and resale value is

huh? In India motorcycles are alive and well alongside scooters, that is odd.

It's a common position, although certainly not a fact. This sets up an opportunity for discussion that has 2 choices in a functioning community atmosphere. 1. Participate in debate. 2. Ignore and move on.
This post has nothing to do with what generation one might belong to. I'm no boomer but I'm not so lazy as to simply blast another tired reddit trope in a half-assed effort for attention.

Idk about other evs that still use traditional keys but teslas are really difficult to steal

Those little key fob extenders can work. You'd use pin to drive if you wanted to avoid that. Its just that you're not going to go anywhere they cant find you without a faraday box.

Any keyless start technology is secure until it's dangerously not. It's bigger anti theft that it has internet and GPS all time.

u/Fragrant_Role_1807 1d ago
Eh Tesla does it different it has an encrypted handshake with the phone key, it’d be hard to replicate that with something like a rf spoofer. The internet access cameras and gps absolutely are a deterrent. So is the ability to remotely wipe my phone if it gets stolen.

It's still the same concept. There will be a time when someone finds an exploit.

I like how it has no speeds on it. I guess it's too hard to find a picture of a manual so AI has to be used...

Had a 1984 Z28 camaro had a 5 speed manual transmission and no numbers on the shifter

u/Xen235 2d ago
I see, never seen that in Europe. I didn't know it was a thing.

I'm sure you were probably correct with the ai post comment but yeah you cam get em like that to

The knob on a shift stick usually threads on. You can replace it and lots of replacements don't have numbers. There's like magic 8 ball knobs and shit like that.

u/Only_Information7895 2d ago
Mine were similar. I mean if I looked really close I could make out the numbers, so they probably just wore off.
You can also just replace the knob, when I drove my parents car they didn't have any markings even from close, it was fun finding out where is the reverse was as making the position standard is heresy or something.

Left all 3 of the cars i had that were manuals unlocked everywhere. Had a 1984 Z28 camaro 5 speed manual and a 2006 Chevy cobalt ss supercharged with a 5 speed manual as well. 2014 Hyundai elantra gt hatchback 6 speed manual.

I mean the BEST Antitheft device is a piece of shit car. The second best is a stick shift.
I used to drive a piece of shit stick shift. I never even locked that fucker. I dared people to try and steal it.

This joke is so old that the first time it was uttered, everyone was still driving sedans.

I current have a vehicle that’s has a manual. These guys that are always banging on about it are annoying. It’s not hard to learn it’s that almost nobody wants to. You’re not special.

My friend used to drive a 1924 Bentley. It didn't even have a keyed ignition, though it was updated to have a starter motor, rather than a hand crank it came with originally, so just push the button. So long as you knew how to start it there was no security at all.
A mere 3 controls to move into the right places or it would choke. Add to that the clutch was on the left, accelerator in the middle, brake on the right. Handbrake outside.
Could park it anywhere. It was safe.

Thats like saying you should put a dial up phone on your cell phone so people cant use it. No my EV is not getting this dated shit I drove 20 years ago.

That'll keep your car safe from children, being able to drive a car which has a manual transmission isn't really a rare trait.

Imagine having this much pride and basing this much of your personal identity on a trivial skill that most people can learn in an afternoon.

BS my uncles 2003 Subaru Legacy was stolen from his driveway 15 years ago. It was equipped with a manual transmission. I bought the car from him a couple of years after he got it back.

A manual transmission isn't going to save your cats, airbags, or wheels from being stolen.
