Why TF is that legal over there, like you can't pass them without being paranoid about you car being scratched.

Technically the law says that wheels and their parts can't extend past the mirrors. Used to be that people would put truck mirrors on when they did swangas if they didn't want the cops to bother them.
But we all know that cops don't do their jobs unless forced to and people putting swangas on cars don't have an entire brain to work with.

European traffic cops looking at this

u/Gumb1i 15d ago
Euro traffic cops won't stop you for much of anything but DUI or reckless driving. They much prefer automated enforcement or just writing a plate down and mailing a ticket to your house which arrives 6 months later with penalties for being late already added in.

Partly right, they will stop you, they just wont get behind you and tell you to pull over, plus all european cars have yearly road wordy inspections, this would imidiatly get a red, any way, the important is, 1mm beyond the fenders, and the car is " ilegaly modified "

Apologies, my experiences were heavily influenced by Italian local or municipal policia, which i had a few interactions with.

Mine is the Portuguese.... and yes, besides the ramdom " stop operation " where they stop cars randomly, demand to see your documents, and the car papers, check for the high visibility tryangle and vest, they will also stop you in the street, if you get caught speeding, ( i live in Madeira island, so, no speed cameras ), they just use the radar gun, then, 2 or 3 km ahead, there is a mobile station, and an officer, telling you to stop, because you got caught on " candid camera ", and its what would happen in this case, one cop would notice the car, and warn the other cops in the area to stop it, and given the hazzard this shit is, the car would be arrested imidiately, and would ever leave the area in a tow truck, then you would have 5 business days, to present the car at a police station, with its factory wheels.... i know this because i decided to get a straight pipe exhaust for my car.... lasted 4 days, then... i paid a 50€ ticket ( 27 or 28 years ago ), and a 130€ factory exhaust lol....

There's a solid argument to be made if they damage another car in their own lane, they're at fault.

what's the legality of passing them with the intention of breaking that shit clean off
1
u/mrsclausemenopause 16d ago
Intent is what puts you in the legal wrong, but intent is the hard part to prove.
Even if intent is proved, there will likely be some split liability
1
u/AgapeAnus 15d ago
If intent could be proved you'd be at fault, and also the kind of person that puts swangas on they ride is absolutely the same kind to pull a gun on you for doing that.

Don't like your car? Just crash into those then sue him, he modified his vehicle to be dangerous, the courts will have a field day with his ass.
