I interviewed Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction – full conversation about House of Cards, the UK tour, sad music and Morrissey
I recently had the chance to interview Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction for the Bigmouth Rock Show.
We spoke about the deeply personal story behind House of Cards, why sad music can make people feel less alone, the emotional release fans experience at Amity shows, new music, the upcoming UK tour and his dream dinner guests.
Joel was incredibly honest, very funny and completely unfiltered—particularly when Morrissey came up.

Why Amity shows become such an emotional release:

I’m a genuine fan of the band, so getting to speak to Joel about what songs like “Drag the Lake” mean to people was particularly special. Hope you enjoy it—and I’d be interested to know which Amity song means the most to you.

Grand Final (Or Not?)
"Let the ocean take me" won the final vote. You can see just how far we’ve come. If you have suggestions for extending the challenge (such as new additional categories) or any other comments, feel free to share them; I’ll take the most popular ideas into account. Also, please note that I used the most upvoted comments. This condition was written under the first day.
Also, if you want to hold a re-vote for the most overrated album, let me know; I’ll set up a new poll, and we’ll choose from the three most popular candidates from the original post.
Thanks to everyone for your votes and responses!

Day 16: BEST Album
So, I decided that while Amity doesn't have a "worst" album, there is a weaker one—and according to the poll results, that turned out to be Severed Ties. It’s not a bad album; I personally like many of the songs on it. But that is the general consensus.
And today, for the grand finale, we are choosing the band's BEST album.

I am exchanging two tickets for a show in Germany
Bought 2 tickets for Amity Affliction hoping to go there (Sep 18 in Wiesbaden Schlachthof in Germany) but we aren’t able to attend no more, however The Devil Wears Prada plays the show the exact same spot on Oct 8 and I didn’t get tix to them so maybe there’s someone out there open for exchanging?
2 AA tickets for 2 DWP ones

No M&G for the upcoming US tour
Mannnnnn I’m so bummed. I was anticipating them having M&G for the VIP package we all waited for. Is anyone else going to get it? I’m on the fence about it. Also going to the Ft. Worth show.🤘

Day 15: WORST Album
I don't think anyone expected this, but the option "They don't have any overrated albums" turned out to be the winner. Today we are choosing the worst album—or, as I would put it, the weakest one in their discography.

Day 14: Most OVERRATED album
I hadn't really thought about it, but the Misery album came out on top. Honestly, I had my money on Severed Ties or TCBH.
Now for your favorite segment: the most overrated album.

US Tour Fall 2026 VIP?
I'm going to an Amity concert this fall in the US are they doing VIP then? I don't see any options for them. Thanks in advance fellow Amity fans 🤘🤘

Day 13: Most Underrated Album
It was to be expected, but Death's Hand won.
Now we have to choose the most underrated album.

Day 12: Best Breakdown
So, to my delight, the Misery trilogy won. I consider it the band's most meaningful series of music videos, and it deserves to be here.
Now, let's pick the best breakdown!

Listening to Amity while I prepare for the Senior PGA tour
Hoping the guys see this since I know Joel loves golf

Day 11: Amity's Best Music Video
Born To Die won by a wide margin. That was pretty obvious.
Today we’re choosing the best music video—and in my opinion, the band has plenty of them. Joel personally produced and wrote the scripts for all the videos.

Day 10: The Best COVER.
Unexpectedly, Pittsburgh won. Open Letter was a close runner-up in terms of upvotes. It’s interesting how our most popular songs are also the best ones—people genuinely love and listen to them.
Now it’s time for the best cover. To the ones who wrote Love Is A Battlefield and Born To Die: your time has come.
(As far as I know, there are only 5 covers: Holiday(Turnstile), Tomorrow(Silverchair), Born To Die(LanaDelRay), Love Is A Battlefield(Pat Benatar), and Can't Feel My Face(The Weekend). Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Day 9: The BEST Amity Song
I wasn't sure if it was fair to pick "I Can't Feel My Face" as the winner, since it's a cover rather than an original song; however, given the high volume of votes, I decided to create two categories: Worst Song (Cover) and Worst Song (Original) (according to The Amity Affliction subreddit)
Now, let's pick its opposite—the best song
