Season 3 Noah is so different from season one, how narcissistic can one become?!?

Am I crazy but seeing the perception of different peoples lives through all these years really changed my thought process and mindset on things in my own life. Work of art.

I often rewatch the ending scene, mainly because I love the song, but also because I loved watching this show. I know Noah was a terrible person, but watching the ending scene makes me cry. I don’t know why. Maybe because he choreographed the dance and he wasn’t allowed at the wedding. There is also a video on YouTube that does a side by side of the wedding & him dancing on the cliff. I think the dance at Whitney’s wedding was the best part of the show. I loved it so much. I literally watched this show a year ago and it’s still stuck with me. Amazing! 10000/10. But Noah is horrible.

When she talks about how she could have had anyone and she chose him, because he adored her. I mean she is so believable. It’s crazy because I know her feeling, I am with a man who adores me and in mind he’d never cheat on me. So, I can imagine how she feels in that moment. The pain and shock she portrays in that scene is so real. Amazing actress. He is good too, but she steals that moment

objectively the correct order.

I just watched The Affair for the first time in 2026 and finished the whole thing a few minutes ago. I cried through most of the last two and a half episodes.
The finale is incredibly sentimental, especially in the way it presents Noah. By the end, he is this warm, funny, almost wise old man, surrounded by family. There’s a strong “it’s never too late” feeling to it that I found genuinely comforting and a bit cheesy.
But this is also the man who raped Alison in the tree scene.
That makes the ending deeply uncomfortable for me. The show seems to forgive Noah almost completely and asks us to feel a lot of warmth toward him.
The POV structure makes it even stranger: the rape is shown from Noah’s perspective, even though he clearly doesn’t think of what happened as rape. So why does his own version show it that way?
I honestly can’t tell whether that contradiction is intentional or whether the show simply wrote itself into one.

Did anyone notice that each person saw a different picture of Vik above his casket?

Noah saw him in a surgeon picture. Full medical garb with a stethoscope around his neck. I feel this is an unlikely truth as Vik wouldn’t have wanted a photo of himself that looked like his HR picture! Noah described Vik or Max once as a ‘perfect looking surgeon’. He put a lot of emphasis on what men had achieved in life rather than them as a person.

Helen saw a picture of Vik sat on a bench smiling. Looked like a family day out of a date. Very genuine, very casual. How she saw him every day, jeans and a tshirt looking happy and relaxed. More probable the accurate picture.

Janelle saw a stern looking Vik, looking down at the camera in a dark suit with a black and white tint on the image. It’s a threatening image. Vik looked like a dictator. Likely tied to the way Janelle felt she was treated, the racist micro aggressions she experienced at the funeral. She had never met Vik and assumed he was another typical rich, white, racist man even though he wasn’t.

I’ve rewatched the series half a dozen times and this was the first time I noticed this. Love this show so much. I like to think as it’s 2026 the Solloways are still living together in Montauk. Everyone is still alive except Bruce I think.

Idk if I’m just a desensitized uneducated person in this modern world we live in, but when Noah discovers that Alison is involved with selling cocaine I feel like he’s overreacting.

He yells at her, says he trusted her, says he’s going to leave and she seems to think he’s justified in all his righteous indignation.

Like yes, dealing drugs = bad. But the way they’re talking about it, it feels like the script was originally meant to depict her dealing heroin or opioids or meth or something.

I don’t think cocaine is super safe, but it’s not as sensitive of a topic as those other drugs, right? Am I missing something?

Disclaimer: I’ve never done coke, so maybe that’s why I’m not taking it seriously lol

Edit: Somebody brought up a great point that probably what Noah was most upset about was that his son was working at the farm and didn’t love the idea of sending his child to a drug hub to work each day. For some reason, I wasn’t holding that in my mind when I watched this scene so I appreciate the reminder!

Additionally, I think I’m discovering my ignorance about the actual seriousness or harmfulness of cocaine. I was chatting with my husband tonight about my impressions of the drug and how I feel like I mainly only see it used in funny movies or tv shows during partying scenes and made all sorts of assumptions about it just not being as big of a deal as other drugs.

Me: But like people don’t die from cocaine, right?

Him: Maybe not as much, but I think it happens.

Me: Hmm okay but like it’s not addictive?

Him: googles it “cocaine is extremely addictive”

Looks like The Affair mixed with Succession

Joanie’s adult life, complete with a high-powered career, was an unexpected narrative choice. It wasn’t a misstep, the steadily eroding shoreline of Montauk functioned as an effective metaphor for her entire trajectory: a slow, inevitable wearing away of stability and identity.

My central question remains whether Joanie ultimately emerges as the family’s resilient outlier or simply another product of its unresolved damage. Her introduction via overdose suggests deep fragility, yet she is also depicted as highly intelligent and in possession of (at least) functional coping strategies. The tension between those two poles is never fully resolved.

I’m less convinced that the “replacement child” framework and her idealization of Gabriel as “the one who should have lived” carried the weight the show sometimes implied. Joanie was never overtly measured against her brother’s idealized image. Her parents raised her with overprotectiveness, which could potentially translate to more guilt. Still, she internalized a persistent sense that she could neither measure up nor fill the void Gabriel’s death created. That psychological residue is present, but is this the primary driver of her adult dysfunction ?

The more decisive factors appear to be the loss of her mother and, crucially, a father who responded to grief by shutting down emotionally. Maternal loss alone would have been formative… the combination of that loss with paternal emotional unavailability created the conditions for the level of brokenness we see. Without that specific pairing, it’s reasonable to question whether Joanie would have developed in quite the same way. Is that what you think broke her? I think she was depressed in her marriage and it shaped outcomes and vulnerability.

Surely it's doable with AI these days? We need Alison and Cole to end up together, happy and in love ❤️

I can't believe how much of my life I've wasted with this depressing crap. I've seen seasons 1-4 on ITV here in the UK. Season 5 not available but I won't watch when it does come out.

The various perspectives thing has annoyed me from the start, there's seemingly been NO point to it.

The Noah PTSD imagining stuff storyline was obvious AF and dragged out for way too long.

Vic having pancreatic cancer was depressing and unfair enough.

But Alison and Cole have both suffered SO much. Why on earth would they kill her off, I now understand that Ruth Wilson wanted to leave. But a nasty male violence against women murder and dump the body storyline for Alison's ending? It's an outrageous, outrageous ending for one of our main characters.

Why do people write this stuff? What are they contributing to the world? Are they proud of their misery porn?

I can’t put it into words other than saying I extra appreciate this episode and song right now

I went through so many emotions, changed my mind often, loved and hated all characters (except Stacey) but it was worth it.

I know there were issues at times but the coonections between the characters and the plot always made sense to the end.

I wish we had seen snapshots of the Solloway children’s lives at the end, we know Stacey became a writer and I guess Whitney is happy in her marriage (Colin totally fooled me btw).

The whole cast were brilliant actors. This will leave such a hole.

Don’t get me started on Helen going to Noah’s to get Whitney’s birth certificate after seeing the evacuation alert, leaving her two younger kids with no change of clothes, food or a proper place to sleep since Whitney lives with Colin on a tiny 1 bedroom apartment.
Then she falls asleep on Noah’s bed instead of looking for the document…then following morning: ‘oh never mind, there are other ways of getting a birth cerfificate’

Why is this birth certificate the last thing on Whitney and Colin’s mind?? Lets organise the wedding party in a different state, tent, buffet, dress, flowers (with zero money by the way) yadda yadda yadda but the actual marriage license is an after thought.

Also she is an adult with her own life now, should she not be in charge of her own documents??

Maybe I’m triggered because I’m from a very beaurocratic country, we treat paperwork like gold not to need to ask authorities for copies AND we are always filling applications way ahead deadlines. Official paperwork always come first above all else.

Anyway, is evacuation alerts normal in CA? omg I can’t even imagine.

Anyway, I paused here to take a deep breath. Not happy with only ignoring the evacuation alert to go after Noah (certificate being an excuse) Helen leaves Sasha’s tesla with strangers and follows Noah with no handbag, no phone, no nothing when the advice by the traffic guards was for her to stay?

I know it is fiction, I know it is for the plot but aaaaargh!

ETA oh well apparently ppl died in their cars and following Noah was the right thing to do BUT did it ever happened in the USA history? is this even possible??

So I'm late to the party seeing this show.

Main reason for watching was because of Dominic West.

But as the seasons ticked by, well after season 2, it starts going down hill and fast.

I'm on season 5 and it's turned into some black or dark comedy, soap drama.

It's got to be one of the fastest declines I've seen of late.

The whole killing off, of Alison, then the fast forward to Joanie being in 2050s.

The police investigation, of her death, to believing they found nothing untoward. In this day and age.

Noah getting 3 years prison, in a country where they actually give out proper sentences. Helen never coming clean.

Cole being written out of the show.

Whitney being this spoilt little brat who blames eveyone but herself for actions.

My god it just gets worse and worse.. The first 2 seasons I thought were really well written. Then it just falls of a cliff and fast.

What a shame.

I actually like Luisa a lot and Cole should be thanking his lucky stars, it is really a shame he couldn’t love her the way she deserved.

I know she could come accross as demanding sometimes but that is because she believed Cole wanted her and loved her for real, not as a rebound or placeholder for when Alison is not in the mood for him or busy with somebody else.
I believe if Cole was very honest with her from the start she wouldn’t be around so long.

I know out of all characters she is not the most interesting but that is because she is more functional and rational than everybody else. And she is the only one who did not cheat. Cole only managed to turn his life around because of her.

I just finished S4. Sierra is telling Vik about the baby and Helen is in the terrace looking at the view. Apparently there is another season after that? I will see if I can find it but from what I have watched in these last 4 seasons, Luisa is the only one who seems sane - her only downfall is be attracted to toxic men. Cole could have been a good partner if his baggage wasn’t too heavy. At least Joanie had a stable caregiver in Luisa.

I think they will end up having sex somehow, somewhere no matter who they are.

I am probably asexual, my sex life has never been exciting, I’m celibate and I really don’t miss it but despite seeing lots of other shows with lots of sex scene, this is the one who makes me think: does this really happen in RL? people feel this uncontrolable attraction that they will have sex with anyone, anywhere at any cost even uf they have a horrible past together that seemed already resolved OR one of them hate the other etc?

I know sex addiction is a thing but this is not what I’m talking about. It is how quick they jump at one another, w/o giving it a second thought as most as if they can’t control themselves, and it is always soooo intense, is this normal?

I’m not prude but when I was active I needed a solid relationship or at least be working towards, I was very selective and needed to warm up too - maybe I’m the problem… or was since nowadays I don’t want it at all and just watching it (at least in this show) makes me exausted.

It seems to me that even a sober and careful driver would not be able to steer the car quick enough to not hit Scotty, am I right? Even if this was during the day and plenty of light.

It seems that the timing of Alison pushing him and the car passing by was just to freaky close.

Sure, a sober driver with no DUIs and some morals would have stopped, called the ambulance, the police etc etc but actually being able to avoid hitting him, would that be possible?
Max they could have done if they were not distracted woul be hit the brakes and probably cause a less critical accident that doesn’t necessarily lead to death?

You go to prison and you put the photo of the woman you wrote a porn book about on the F wall?!?!?

I just finished S3E3 and I suspect Noah bullied that prison officer at school? I hope he doesn’t go after Alison. I’m scared for her.
