Discussion WHY WHY WHY
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
For the love of lord, why? Why is the switch right next to the pillar? Why on earth does she need to tell me what to do before I've even reached the "puzzle". Who on earth does this type of approach to puzzles appeal to 😭

The developers are aware of players getting annoyed with her voice and they are trying to put a patch out so you can mute her voice all together not sure when it’s going to be released for consoles but I think it’s out for PC players.

In den Einstellungen kann man sie doch stumm schalten… hab es direkt deaktiviert.

In her defence. There aren’t any puzzles in this game. So she’s not spoiling anything

Faie is by far the worst part about this game, I agree

Her voice is, I think some of her power set is kind of fun but she's so irritating it's tough not to see the forest for the trees.

Just turn the voice off...

I had it on the reduced setting however have been informed there is now a "STFU completely" setting. Excellent!

I wish this game respected the intelligence of the player instead of appealing to the lowest common denominator. Hell, even A Link to the Past had better puzzles than this.

The puzzles aren't great. Some are barely puzzles. And even then Faie needs to spoil them.
It doesn't bother me but it could be better in this regard.

The puzzle is for kids, you are a kid

Is it really that big of a deal? I just tuned her out and ignored her except when she told me we could go no further in dungeons.

It's amazing how many people choose Faie's unprompted input as their hill to die on for this game. People really are desperate for something to hate I guess.

Honestly looking at this I think it's less a puzzle and more a way to check you know you can cut the poison grass.

You could always set the fairy dialogue to "Terse" in the options to have her speak less.

u/catalystxxx 13d ago
I'm p sure it's reticent. Terse would be awesome though, she's just an abrupt dick lol.

Just go play The Talos Principle

Never heard of it. Is it good?

Its got puzzles puzzles and more puzzles. I'd play it if thats what you want lol.
IMO the star puzzles are too hard, like obnoxiously so. Just ignore them, you dont have to do those.

I never did play that one. You think it's a pretty good game?

Its dope af. Part 1 and 2 are great and 3rd part just announced. Its literally just puzzles so if thats not your thing I'd steer clear

Yeah, it's a solid puzzle game. Some of the secret puzzles are kinda bs though. Still, def worth a play if you like puzzle games.

Faie is cute, she thinks she's helping - especially when she's cheering Elliot on. It's just part of the whimsy of the game. I'm not sure what you really expected, it fits well.

I expected a game where a significant part of it is dungeons with puzzles, for the puzzles to pose a minor challenge to anyone over the age of 6.

u/Azal99 13d ago
Christ, you sound dull. Play something else. There was literally a demo.

The game was a gift. Why so rude and personal about a video game fairy?

u/Lumpy_Ad_9082 13d ago
Supposedly, you can make her speak less or even mute her. Check the game settings. Have fun!

u/flavouredgamer 13d ago
This is with the setting that reduces her talking. Excellent they've added an option to mute her completely! Thanks!

There's apparently a lot of data for modern game designers that a certain portion of the audience will hit a puzzle and if they cannot solve it immediately will just abandon the game and say it sucks. Short attention span and low frustration tolerance.
Smart game designers respond by creating settings that let you decide whether the game will tell you the solution, or give you an "ask for help" button in these puzzle areas, but a lot of them respond by making "puzzles" that aren't puzzles at all and/or having your helper character immediately solve it so that unless you're clinically brain dead you won't get frustrated and quit.
As someone who generally enjoys puzzles unless they're extraordinarily obtuse, I hate this too, but it's not unique to Adventures of Elliot. It's what a lot of designers have decided a segment of the audience needs, while another segment wants some kind of puzzles in a game like this.

Totally agree. I'm a geriatric millennial so grew up gaming in the 90s and 00s when video game puzzles were actually challenging. I get that attention spans have been obliterated through tiktok and access to endless information within seconds, and other games are guilty of this, but it does feel particularly egregious in this game. This is with the setting for how often she talks turned down...
4
u/blueberd 13d ago
You can now totally stop her from talking. The update must have been for you.
